I'm just thinking outloud here, but:

i read on the dragon age site about a russian review or something and the guy bashed the game for having bad voice acting and the cutscenes weren't very good.

Won't there be, like great differences between lets say, the american/canadian/australian version of the game compared to the russian or german playthrough?

I don't mean to offend or bash anybody's national pride, but north america is getting this game on november 3rd, and europe a little later, and the other regions way down the road.  I'm just guessing here, but some versions of dragon age are going to be superior than others and it'll be a completely different experience.

So won't some review scores be a little out of whack?  I highly doubt that review that gave dragon age origins came from the us.

There is English for every version. And dubs are always* bad.

*Exception for kids movies and such

I do not know how reviewers go about it, but one can hope that they will play the game with its official voice-overs. However, if they use the localized dubs this is a valid concern, Flamechamp. However, then it would probably say so in the Review? Mention "bad voice acting" or some such, and hopefully people could deduct from that that perhaps it was the localized dub that was bad, and not the original voice-over.

Speaking of this, I am curious how a german dub would voice Leliana. A german french-accent. Is such a thing even possible?!

How could we let the consumers know about this... oooh , I know, maybe the foreign reviews could be written in a different language or something.

What say you?

Would that be feasible?

What if the opposite happens? The reviewer thinks the local dubs are really good, and give a higher score because of them? Lol :P

I will try the french version first, but if the voices suck, I will use the english voices with french subtitles (just as the most of movies I watch).
Damn ! I've spared 10 euros but I will regret to not have bought (errr... Import, 'cause we have no CE in France:?)  the CE if the french voices suck... :(

That's why I will install it with English. I'm quite fluent in it, so it'll not take away from the original. But it is a somewhat legitimate question. I usually play British/US American movies in English, because I do believe that dubs take away the original meaning somewhat, even if it is just subtle.

I think the game is still going to be in English, with subtitles in Sapanish, at least that's the way it is in Mass Effect.

i guess this isn't an issue with dragon age origins, but all games. I'm sure every region will feel dragon age origins is a masterpiece.

I just hate that god damn review giving dragon age an 87%. That is ridiculous.

Some video games have pretty cool localisations. The french voices of The Witcher was excellent for exemple (didn't try other languages and I didn't need to).

I know flamechamp is a troll, or 9 years old, or both, but bad VO can break a game. English Witcher is pretty bad, and I hear Russian Mass Effect was horrible.

I'd actually love it if there were Dutch dubs. I would even use them for like 5 minutes I think.

But original voices are always the way to go. They don't just grab someone randomly from the street, they look for a voice that fits the character.

Yuppers... German VG voice actors are awful, for the most part.

And flamechamp.... What's wrong with 87%? You think that score is too good or something?

True enough. Besides, I love Kate Mulgrew, and I positively adore Tim Curry.

87 is too low. i said this many times, dragon age will be better than final fantasy 7 and dynasty warriors 5 combined

In the Witcher case, It's pretty diffcult to play a game with polish voices, don't you think ? :D

Distinguishing between "original voices" and "overdubs" for animated characters is kind of silly. I could understand it if we were talking about real actors and their voices but their is no reason why other languages must by definition have synchronizations of lesser quality in video games.

That being said, I will still stick with the english Dragon Age version, because from what I already heard in the trailers it will kick ass and I already associate the voices with the characters.

Where did you get your advance copy? How many times have you played through the game?

Not that I doubt that DA:O will be exceptional, but 87% is a very good score (Although VG reviewers apparently believe that percentages only go from 70% to 95%).

Hmm, yes, I have to agree.
But was the game really Polish original? Or was the team just from Poland? Because if the team was Polish, I'm sure they spended extra attention to the English voice overs, since most of the people would use those anyway.

Oh, and the Witcher wasn't nice anyway:ph34r:

I suggest you put me to the torch - I suggest everyone to do that (when I say something that most people won't like).

So far only 1 person did that, so you could be second.
