Personally, I think Dragon Age 2 is a big step up from Dragon Age: Origins.  I own the Xbox 360 version, and love the combat.  I'm more of an action guy than a tactical guy, and thought the combat was amazing.  The graphics look a lot better in my opinion.  I don't see why a good amount of people have a problem with this game, and I think it should be getting better reviews than it has been.

OH YEAH, a huge step up, those re-used textures, the re-used character voices on alot of the NPCs, the re-used locations.  As far as how to recycle a game goes, its a huge step up!

And the combat, phewww!!! that is such a blast, i love not being able to zoom out to set my AOE radials in a proper area, that is the BOMB BABY.

And the story is the most unique i've ever seen, it's like, it's not even there! which is SO cool!

And the side quests? are all really really wel done and unique, i enjoyed every single side quest it has offered me.

And the combat is amazing! how the enemies just appear is fantastic! im blasting a couple of guys then all of a sudden my mage is dead! 6 other enemies appear out of NOWHERE, the cunning and cleverness of them! So tricky!

Your talking about DA:O right?

Both were great games, but for me DA2 was better. DA2 was more of a personal story, where your choices wouldn't really affect the actual story too much, but would shape your hawke and his companions.

Origins seemed cliched with the whole change the world thing and fight "one big evil". DA2 just seemed more down to earth in the way that you cant change everything, some things are set in stone, you cant change them which immerses you when you realise how futile your efforts are and thus draws out all kinds of emotions ala end of act 2.

Oh crygie we'll all sit around and wait for you to come back and edit your post. Really if you don't have an argument don't say anything.

DA2 was more a personal story and I thought that it was much better. The only thing I wish you could change about the game would be which sibling went with you to Kirkwall (did my best not to spoil). And also I wish you could change what happens to them in Kirkwall. I wanted me and bethany to roll around together as mage siblings. Other than that hands down better game. I can't wait to see where they take this story. The ending had me squealing like a little school girl

Having just finished playing Golems of Amgarrak (very nice DLC, I might add), I'd say I miss the responsive combat in DA2 (as learned playing the demo). And I, for one, do not miss the cluncky camera, especiallu when it is pulled out in what people call isometriv view. (it isn't really - it is an attempt at making one in a 3D game, and it fails utterly, imo).

I leveled up once while I was in Amgerrak...and I do miss the clean, streamlined interface from the DA2 demo. Streamlining the interface doesn't mean that the game itself is streamlined...

Isn't that what real life is all about? Isn't that immersive enough for you?

I have a question for people who honestly prefer DA2 to DA:O, (which if you didn't get from the way I just asked that, I do not. At all.)

Did you guys ever play the Baldur's Gate Series, or Planescape: Torment, and what do you think about those games? I would argue that if you disliked either BG or P:T, you are far more likely to be in the DA2>DA:O camp, whereas if you liked both of those games, you are far more likely to be in the DA:O>DA2 camp.

Simply put, those people who like *true* RPGs will mostly prefer DA:O>DA2. I'm not trying to be snobbish or elitist here, though I realize it's going to come off like that, but it's simple facts. DA2 is an action/adventure game, whereas DAO, BG, and PT are RPGs, epic ones. DA2 is an entirely different genre than DAO, so you can't really compare the two of them. I bet you there are far fewer people that like BOTH games- it requires that person liking two different genre of games. DA2 is simply not an RPG. Once you get past that, it's a decent game for what it is.

It's more comparable to a game like Heavy Rain than its predecessor, Origins, however.

Big Step…Really?  Lets take a look.

Recycled Environments

Recycled Bestiary

Lack of Character Dialogue/Interaction w/Companions

Lack of Race/Character Customization

Inability to Upgrade Companion Armor – lack of Inventory

Dialogue Wheel - Failing to match response chosen - Loss of persuasion, and special actions.

Lazy Side Quests – turn in random item to random generated npc

Uninspiring Story – Plot Holes – very little choices affect the world around you – Consequences..What consequences?

Loot/Drops – 90% of which was vendored. It seems since Bioware took the lazy approach they thought it was cute for your mage character to get warrior and rogue gear and vice versa.

Crafting – Marginalized – why not just take it out completely and give the CoD crowd a Pill Dispensor

Equipment Rating – Not Accurate/Bugged – Basically useless, it’s a good thing I don’t need a game to tell me what’s good/bad

Gear Stats – Honestly, don’t think Bioware is aware that Bloodmages use CON instead of Willpower

Trees/Abilities/Specializations – less variety – what happened to the Bard, Ranger, Arcane Warrior, Shapeshifter, Battlemage, Keeper, Legionnaire Scout, and Spirit Warrior?

Dual Wield - restricted to the Rogue class

Companion Roles - Relying on just Anders to be a healer and locking companions to one fighting style. In DA: Origins, we decided which character was the healer, who was the tank, the archer, and so on.

No Traps/Stealing/Persuasion

Lack of Content

Little to No Replay Value

Tactical Combat: Passed the game on Nightmare – No tactics required, nor did I have to use the cross class combos too win. I think Bioware meant that we nerfed healing, reduced taunt/aggro mechanics, and several other components to make it tougher. Yet, the mobs AI is dumber then bricks and easily exploitable.

Yup, Bioware took a BIG STEP BACKWARDS. Sorry for the small list, I might compile a larger one later.

@ Rafe34 Not I, I'm afraid. I like your examples in this order, from best to worst. BG, DAII, DA:O, PS:T. (And I'd put Ultima VII in front of them all.)

One of the things that really ticked me off was purely aesthetic- the horrible inventory in DA2. By this I mean the Junk tab- completely silly, IMO, as well as the every item looks the same, (rings are all just rings, they don't look different on their picture, etc.). It would be very easy to fix this, I wouldn't mind a direct import from DAO on image files.

Another thing was the enemies randomly spawning, which makes it impossible to set up a tactical response to a situation. Sure it makes it harder, but for no reason other than making it harder. Like the fight with Ser Varnell where waves upon waves of fanatics just kept coming. I think he must have brainwashed the entire city of Kirkwall with his nonsense.

Honestly I think these games are to different to be compared. It's like AC 1 or 2 or even ME 1 or 2. You have to take em as their own games because they're both amazing and different in their own rights.

Without question: DAO > DA2

There are some aspects I like better in DA2, but overall, there's just so much that DA:O did better IMO.

Are you saying you liked all four games? And that you liked them as so: BG>DA2>DAO>PT?

Origins was a labor of love, one could tell by playing it and losing oneself in that world. So much was lost in DA2, cut off for the sake of getting it done quick and easy, the game just lost its soul. I was really, really let down by Bioware in this one.

In that order, BG then DA2 etc.

It's just one opinion. I like a range of genres. I recently had to rate my top ten for publication and it was this, in order.

Ultima VII: The Black Gate
Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death
Dragon Age II
Dragon Age: Origins
The Witcher
The Longest Journey
SimCity4
Icewind Dale II

edit: sorry, terrible paste

@Firky: Oh, you like HoMM 3, well that explains a lot. :P (I love the HoMM franchise, all of them EXCEPT 3, which I just DESPISE, lol.)

I was just trying to cut down my RPG list to top ten, and I'm having trouble doing that, lol.

Yes, because in Origins every place is flat out copied, and enemies drop out of the sky. ([/sarcasm])

:) Horses for courses.

(I can't believe someone doesn't think HOMM III is the best. But that's an argument lost to many years ago with the release of HOMM V. HOMM VI is coming out soon, it might be revisited.)

All in perspective.
