@Firky: I liked 5, and 4, and 1. 2 was the best, IMO, though. 3 just... it wasn't right what they did to my HOMM. I was quite literally devastated when it came out and I got it, and it... just wasn't right. :(

@Rafe34 2 was great. We can agree there.

You know what's interesting. How I remember reaction to HOMM is different to how you experienced it and remember it. I remember it as.

1 and 2 were good. 3 was the pinnacle. 4 was quite different - with heroes being in combat and such - and I'm not sure how well it went down overall. I thought a lot of fans of the series didn't like it. I liked it. And 5 was more of a return to the 3 model which didn't quite get there and was liked but not loved.

How does history really remember these things? How will DAII be seen in 10 real life years? Does everyone even remember it the same? I'd like to remember it as an improvement over Origins, but the "perceived backlash" is loud at the moment.

Honestly I think these games are to different to be compared. It's like AC 1 or 2 or even ME 1 or 2. You have to take em as their own games because they're both amazing and different in their own rights.

Some people only say that when the second one is bad. It is a coping mechanism.

I like DA2 alot better. Both had strengths but overall I like the direction DA2 is taking and see alot of potential with it.

My quick comparison run down:

The combat first and foremost because now my character feels like a CHAMPION and not some LARPer playing pretend in the middle of a forest somewhere like in DAO.

The story was a million times better in DA2 as DAO was entertaining but was a story that has been eternally retold just was with some different details. DA2 was so much more intriguing for me.

I loved the architecture and level design of DA2 way better with the problem being REVISITING the same level a million times even when it is supposed to be a different dungeon completely story wise. So I would give the nod to DAO here with the quantity of dungeons winning over quality.

Character wise it isn´t even close. Dragon Age 2 companions destroy DAO in every aspect for me.

My final problem with DA2 though is the retconning of dead characters. I killed zevran. Leiliana is dead too why are they coming back? Especially Leiliana since no matter how hard you try bioware you will never make leiliana cool. Dress her in black armor and make her some super spy Codenamed Nightingale it will never matter. Let her die... and stay dead please... Her role would have been filled by a new character altogether much better.

OH and the DA2 bugs. I ran into some bugs in DAO but NOTHING as unforgivable as the Isabela Thumbs Up Bug in DA2.

Having Sten on the team is like being able to talk to the Arishok whenever I want and have party banter with other allies.

TAKE THAT  BACK!

Sten will NEVER compare the Arishock. The arishock is a badass, He actually cared for the people around him & him & he actually cared for you.. All sten was was a giant whiney douche who only cared about his F'n sword!

BTW... To any & all who say DAO has better graphics. Get some glasses. Its graphics have been universally panned from its release as being the single biggest downfall of DAO.

DA:O is great
DA2 is really good

DA:O is the better game and RPG.
DA2 is more fun to play.

both are far better than most crap on the market these days. but thats just my opinion. im sure a bunch of haters will swoop down on me and tell me that im wrong and why DA2 is horrible and ruined their lives and is killing the RPG genre or whatever else nonsense.

Origins without a sliver of doubt when it comes to story line, choice and its delivery.

Dragon Age 2 really only improved in combat (with the notable exception of the waves) and graphics.

Companions were more in depth in Origins, but I still enjoyed the ones in II, just wised they would talk more and be a tad more in depth.

I love both games, but I must say I just now finished 1 last DA:O story for importing and it was almost painful. The combat was so slow and clunky that it was a chore to get through, and I really enjoy combat so DA2 definitely wins on that.

Graphics are nicer, but of course that is to be expected and is no real criticism of DA:O. As far as characters and story, I thoroughly enjoyed both and I couldn't say which was better because both are just too good.

DA2 doesn't hold a candle to Dragon Age Origins, fo reasons repeated so often that I cannot be asked to post them again.

I love both games, but I think that the writing and combat was better in DA2. For instance, I found the companions in DA2 to be infinitely more interesting and believable than the ones in Origins. Then again, Origins had more content, and it really was a great game. In my view, I'd probably say that both games are equally good, but in very different ways. However, If I had to pick one of them, then I must say that Dragon Age 2 is the one that appeals most to me.

They are both GREAT games, but for different reasons. For pure replayability though, DA:O is proabably better.

I like them both. Both have good sides and bad sides.

Although bad sides of DA:O is from personal tastes (like don't liking tedious Deep Roads story line), DA 2's bad sides from rushed/bad planned game design. After Act 2 DA 2 start to go wacky, plots hurled into chaos. If they will be fixed in future both games will be equal.

For me: DA:O and DA 2 way much better than sorry excuse of a game DA: The Awakenings.
(Which reminds me NWN - NWN:SotU-NWN:HotU. Second one was also horrible on that chain)

IMO, Awakening is better than DA2. At least the premise of Origins is in that expansion and it plays about as long as DA2 does in total.

I guess it comes down to taste. I liked it enough to play it twice, but in retrospect, I would have passed on it. If you really enjoyed Origins, you may be torn liking Awakenings. I just didn't care for how the storyline progressed with the characters, though I absolutely loved Velanna, she would have been awesome in Origins.

I guess, to each their own. IMO, going by your thoughts, Bayonetta and GOW play like RPGs. I if wanted to bunny hop kills with stiff robotic movements, then I would have bought FF XIII, or simply modded Rikku, Dante and Kratos into DA2.

I'd say that they're even. You can't really compare the two, they're just castly different in style.

My point is that I don't think you can truly compare the two.

It's not like we're comparing Age of Empires to DAO, they're not THAT different, but I do honestly think that DA2 is not a true RPG- it's more equivalent to playing through the story of one character- I class that as an action/adventure game. Which is not necessarily *bad*, it's just the title of the game gave the impression that it was, in fact, an RPG. Or at least it was implied since it was a sequel to Dragon Age 1.

Heavy Rain is an absolutely fantastic game- but it's not an RPG. DA2 comes closer to something like that, or Beyond Good and Evil, than it does Dragon Age: Origins as a true RPG.

Most of the complaints I have about DA2 are obviously because it was rushed- the recycled maps, the lackadaisicle, (sp?), inventory, where the same images are repeated ad nauseaum for every ring/dagger/sword/etc., the lack of conversation with your companions except when they wanted something, the lack of any real resolution to romantic dalliances, (I'm not entirely talking about no "sex" scenes- the whole decision with Morrigan, especially as a female PC is just... well my sister actually cried when she hit that part, and most of the girls I know that played it really wrestled with that decision- nothing hits you quite like that in DA2).

Did it so some things good? Hell yes, it's a good game. It's not horrible, it's not an RPG, but that doesn't make it bad. It's not a great game, not yet. Neverwinter Nights was another game that was pretty badly received at release, for good reason. 5 years later, I would recommend people buy it, whereas when it first came out, I wouldn't have recommended it to anyone who wasn't a DnD fan. Why? The community turned that game into something awesome.

So, basically, I said all that to say that we could really use a good toolset for DA2. Fix the bugs, fix the little quibbles with inventory, the people spawning out of thin air in combat, and let the community have at it.
