I wouldn't go so far as to call Dragon Age 2 a disgrace. So things, like the combat, I thought were better in Dragon Age 2, and the dialogue wheel. Maybe some improvements will be made in Dragon Age 3...

So, DAO had the better "story" as it had a fully realized one (all arguments about the LotR same-o same-o yadda yadda yadda aside).
Could DA2's story have been as epic and fantastic? Oh hell yeah, if they had picked one and developed it properly.

for the record i played on ps 3, the combat system was slightly improved, except taken a bit to far in the tweaking 16 year old drug addicted exploding bodys craving weirdo direction, a lot of depth were removed in the process, for the sake of accessability, which i don't get, okay so you want to sell a product i get that, but how about marketing it to people you know bought the previous installment, and not to people who have never even played an RPG before, chances are they are not going to buy your product no matter how many times you say "awesome" instead you are going to alienate the old costumers because you cant please both sides, which was clearly the intent.

companions: Origins, the characters development allowed for a MUCH a better approach to your characters, "hey, let's talk about something more trivial, we have time (Shoes, have you ever licked a lamppost in winter?, do you miss Orzammar?, your childhood, etc), the character development in DA2 was larger but it felt really arrogant, it kept saying things that you already know over and over (yes Isabella i know you have a damn rellic to find, what the hell are you planning Anders), i could never just go ahead and say "hey, theres nothing going on, it will take years to resolve your problem, let's just talk about you, your past and all that" (i would have loved to hear about Isabella's life on the sea, Varric's childhood and life with Bartrand, Merrill's life before being considered a disgrace to her clan), but no, all i get is "let's do my quest" or "i'm bored of this, we should something fun"..... well at least in that we can agree.
the friendship/rivalry system has a lot of potential, but it wasn't used very well, why do still stick with you if they hate you ? doesn't make sense.
also, why can't i just tell them to f**k off? that i don't want to hang out with them anymore?
the Romances are a mess, the dialogues regarding the romances are fine, but the romances themselves are horrible (there is practically no way for me to know that i was romancing Isabella if it weren't for the sex scene),it was so underdeveloped and rushed ( in just one flirt, all of a sudden they appear in my house asking me to have sex with them, then let them move in) i know is not exactly the same in every case, but my point still stands, the romances where very underdeveloped
and rushed.
combat:
difficult really, i much prefer the one from Origins, but i know this is a heated discussion.
i prefer the one in DAO cause it was more gratifying, it was slower, sure, but at least i had to pay attention otherwise, i lose, in DA2, many, too many, times i would just go on and press a button for something awesome to happen.... but it didn't happen, i just wanted to stop.
Graphics:
complicated too, if we talk about raw graphics, then DA2, don't really think there should be a debate here, but in terms of art style, Origins was realistic, DA2 was.... ok, i DESPISE the art style in DA2, i really do hate it, and UI almost hurts my eyes.
story:
Origins, and here's why:
ya see, the concept of DA2 stomps on DAO's concept, DA2 has a lot of things planned: frame narrative, political stuff, serial killers, a family that has to escape from the homeland they lived and grew, etc...
the problem is this: DA2 takes little advantage of what it has:
the frame narrative was gimmicky and didn't add anything to the plot other than create an ambiguous ending and...... sequel bait (note: I HATE sequel baits).
the political stuff doesn't really kick off until act 2, in act 1 it keeps stretching for things that don't need to be there (the Long way home adds NOTHING to the plot, NOTHING, the only thing you get from that quest is that Merrill is a blood mage and that Flemeth is now in Kirkwall, that would have been useful right there, but no, she leaves and makes YET ANOTHER sequel bait).
i know a lot of people where invested in the story enough to care about the serial killer stuff, but i wasn't, anyway, the " All that remains" quest is a quest that i have to admit was fairly well developed, when i did the quest i could see that some other previous quest where leading to this, but it was presented as surprise, good stuff there, is just that i was not invested in the story enough to care (also, more fight? c'mon, i just arrive and find Hawke's mother and then, FIGHT FIGHT, FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT, enough, not to mention, Hawke's mother just stands there, it looked really weird).
the escape from Ferelden is also another complain a have, the game never really takes advantage of this never really exploits the desperation you need to care, which is helped by the fact that your mother keeps talking about stuff you didn't see, thanks to a rather rushed beginning, she keeps saying "oh, our life in lothering", it would have been better to start at lothering with a proper introduction to the characters, to make you feel like you're part of the family, but no, you just arrive at the game and immediately you have to FIGHT, c'mon!
DAO made good use of what it had, giving you a proper introduction to your character and how he/she has lived so far, and then things go nuts and your character has to abandon the life he/she has known all along.
i'm stopping cause i'm sick of writing (XD),but to make it more clear , in case you didn't read this:
DAO (x10)> DA2
