Dragon Age: Origins.  I just prefer that kind of RPG.  I had been under the impression that DA was created for that reason alone.

DA2 is a fine game, essentially Mass Effect in a Fantasy world.  I just don't know why BioWare felt the need to go in that direction but they did.  That's fine, I like Mass Effect as well.  But I also think it's a waste of potential.  And I think the complaints about reused tilesets etc. are totally valid.  The quality vs. quantity argument doesn't fly with me on that issue.

In terms of roleplaying, it is potentially better. Not because of the wheel since its a practically a cosmetic change, but rather the personality system that came with it.

The PC VActing is cause for controversy but I believe its Pros outweight the Cons. The pros being a protagonist with an emotional face and the cons being a slight possibility for you to dislike the voice and thus blowing more imagination powered roleplaying.

All in all, Dragon Age 2 is amazing for what it is, a rushed game with a handful of bugs, recycled dungeons and a troublesome difficulty system. Don't let people tell you that the 'RPG core mechanics blasphemies' tore the franchise apart.

Nonetheless, Dragon Age:Origins is kind of superior. Though I don't think both should be compared at all.

I understand that the combat and the way the story is handled is mostly a matter of taste (I personally prefered both of those aspects a lot more in origins), but the fact that this game is rushed with music from its predecessor and levels that are reused througout the game I think Origins is by far a better game from a more objective view also.

I love both of em .Haven't finished my first playthrough of DA2 (I have 41 hours playtime right now in normal difficulties) .

Dragon Age origins was more about the world and the blight .. While DA2 it's more about Hawke and his surrounding. Both game had complete different approach of what make a story epic.

Like i said so many time. They removed too many little thing that made Origins so special.I`m not talking about the tactical view for PC.I was a bit annoyed by the snob english accent. It's was like watching a movie from the palace of england in 1700.

The fight in DA2 are often a bit funky . I though my Warden was badass .. But after seing Hawke in action my Warden and killing Darkspawn and dragon seem to be something natural. It's felt less epic and noir than Origins. The Origins High Dragon was much more epic than any dragon fight in DA2.Not because of the fight but because of the whole *WOW a dragon watch out* . The atmosphere was so different.

The Dragon fight was more challenging in DA2 but felt so much more less epic . I don't know why .
Anyway.

The soundtrack was improved but the music was less epic and recycled just like too many damn area. How many time you have to run into the same lifeless street before you want to throw up?It's was lacking dept of field . The City did not felt like a city but like a huge chantry board.Even though some place look very great it's was still lacking in atmosphere.

Now i stop here .I need to finish it !!

PS: I`m 50/50 about the artstyle...After seing those cameo i miss Origins. It's was more .... *Mature*

An ideal world would be to not compare them as if you didn't notice, they are different.

I don't think we should be comparing the games given how different they are. It would be akin to comparing BG2 to Diablo 2 - different genres, different strengths, different weaknesses. As I stated before in another thread if I wanted to put down numbers I would rate it as such:

DA2 as a sequel: 4/10 - removed almost everything that I felt made Origins good, replaced it with more action-oriented content.
DA2 as a spinoff: 7/10 - a potentially excellent Action-RPG with (relative to the genre)well-written story that was marred by rushed production.

So technically Origins comes out ahead simply because it wasn't rushed, but otherwise I'd say they're around the same level, just different games sharing the same lore.

I'm not done playing DA:2 and there are a lot of things I like about it, but there are also a lot of things I truly dislike about it.

I like the graphics, the companions and some of the quests have been quite interesting. I love the new Qunari!

I dislike seeing the same maps over and over and over. This is just laziness to me. I dislike the fact that I have yet to figure out what the purpose is here, I just feel like a hired gun with no purpose. I dislike what they've done with the elves as far as how their ears look at least.

I would have to say over all I like DA:Origins more thus far.

Well it depends, if I want to watch cinematics and click my mouse occasionally the DA2, but if I want to play an RPG game, then Origins.

As an action game, DA2

As an RPG, DA:O

If I had to pick? So far, DA2. The recycled environments and the few bugs there are aside.... the companions feel like real people this time around.

DA:O (and I played the console version btw)

I miss the features:
- auto-attack,
- party armor customization (I can live without)
- maps (yeah, the new day/night/outsite thing is weak)
- camp (I dont want to go to each specific location to talk with my crew)
- art style (DA2 is ok but I like DA:O classic art more)
- 2 weapon set (I want to change to another weapon FAST)
- morrigan :(

Personally, I think Dragon Age 2 is a big step up from Dragon Age: Origins.  I own the Xbox 360 version, and love the combat.  I'm more of an action guy than a tactical guy, and thought the combat was amazing.  The graphics look a lot better in my opinion.  I don't see why a good amount of people have a problem with this game, and I think it should be getting better reviews than it has been.

I play on PC, and in my opinion is DAO is the superior game.  That said, DA2 has some great elements - the graphics look better and it has an interesting narrative structure.  But I think they took the streamlining aesthetic too far, and that has hurt he feel of the game somewhat.  But still, even a flawed successor to DAO still has a lot of merit, and I can't understand at all the people who have to say it is the worst game ever, etc.

It's subjective, so all this is my opinion, of course, but DAII has better graphics, a better story, better characters, better acting, better gameplay, a better RPG ruleset (almost identical, of course, but the small tweaks are definitely improvements), and better emotional pull. In every way I care about, DAII is the superior game. Origins was just more "polished," and I attribute that to its inordinate development time.

The only thing I will agree with you is the better graphics. Everything else is either comparable or subpar over DA:O. Most locations where copy pasted, how the hell can you like that?

I know this is going to sound snobby, but:

I find it insulting when people say they are more "action" people, than "tactical" people, as if the two are equivalent.  If you are an action type person there are plenty of better games for you, COD comes to mind...

Comparing Origins to DA:II is like comparing Rachel McAdams to Rosie O'Donnell...which would you rather wake up next to?

DA:II is not even worthy to share the same Universe as Origins.

Sounds you're the type of guy who likes Dynasty Warriors. If you haven't played them you should. They do action better that BioWare currently do.

Origins is infinetly better.

Origins for sure.
But i did like the dialogue wheel and talking pc, but thats just a matter of opinion.
Also the gear looked a lot better than in origins it seemed like for rogue there was just 1 set of gear with a few different colors where there is a variety in da2.

Origins (always faithful)! And might i ask everyone? Did you purchase DA2 hoping it contained the same RPG element as as Origins? Or was it you hoped bioware would bring that immediate action adventure story element it gave Mass effect to DA2?

Yeah, that really depend on what you like. There is gonna be a lot of DA2 answers, and a lot of Origins answers. For my part, Origins hands down, by a mile. But that's because Origins is exactly what I like in RPGs. I'll write a personal review when I finish DA2.
