Which is better: Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age 2?

To summarize, I can't really decide which one is better. DA:O has some things I like better while DA2 has things I enjoyed far more than I did in DA:O. So yeah, it's an even tie I believe.

I don't think we should be comparing the games given how different they are. It would be akin to comparing BG2 to Diablo 2 - different genres, different strengths, different weaknesses.
Agreed. They should have just called it something else. You can feel a sort of bleed-through of some of Mass Effects features in DA2...not just the Dialog Wheel, but the side quests, the reused um...everything...
Not saying it's terrible or anything (love ME and all things Shepard...buying a sheep soon) but just not worthy of the precedence set forward by DA:O.
Laidlaw said that DA2 is being hated-on because everyone is comparing it to DAO and that it shouldn't be. If it shouldn't be compared to the first of the series, then it shouldn't be a part of said series....
Ugh...I'm ranting..

The graphics were better in Origins.
The Darkspawn look terrible now.

This is very much like Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects, recounting the events that lead up to the moment of his questioning.
It worked for me. That lack of RPG elements are sorely missed, however. As is the depth of the environments and the feeling one is actually on some sort of journey. I don't feel like I'm progressing, because we're not cutting back to Varric enough to make it significant. You have to play some sort of the story in the present to go along with the story in the past.
Had Bioware cut back and forth between Varric's plight (not just canned questioning) and Hawke -- I think it would've worked better.

Story: DA2 wins. The gripping drama, the consequences and decisions... WOW!
Companions: DA2 wins again. No "Ten dialogue options done and then it's over" companions (Unless they are Morri or Alistair) . They all have a spread out story and MUCH to say and they truly REACT to Hawke's responses, decisions. Romance comes across as much more natural (No more "Oh, you gave me wine and another gift, now I think you're cute!" effects) They all have deep stories, harrowing decision points....
Design: DA2 has beautiful graphics. But the re-used areas make it lose to DAO. Both suck in that regard, The Witcher owns that. XD
Talents, Skills, Etc: Like them both equally
RPG Elements: Only thing DA2 lacked was outfitting companions IMO. And the Modders are already at work on that, or so I hear. But the shaping of personality (Influencing even dialogue you cannot choose such as greetings etc.) is mesmerizing. So DA2 wins again in my eyes.
I LOVE both games. Wouldn't want to be without either of them.

So Origins for me, not to mention I prefer the old art style, the old roleplay system, the mute character, etc.

Does this sound familiar?
Someone joins a mysterious order. Exceptionally skilled, they lead a ragtag band of friends to victory against the forces of darkness.
Yep, it's practically every fantasy ever written. DA:O had no story ambition.

The physical force in combat is welcome, and the lightning with good animations is cool.
More action and less talk, a little like mass effect 2.
If you go for a more detailed RPG, you should stick with DA:O.
But i think that DA2 is a very good and entertaining game.
Oh, and the sound is PERFECT.

da2 just stops when the stuff actualy starts to happen ( i HATE open endings)
See, I love them. It gives the opportunity for expansions, DLCs...it keeps the franchise alive. Seeing everything resolved would have led to a "Ok, done now, movin' on." sentiment.

Yeah, as long as they follow up on them, I'm happy. Cliffhangers are the best. If they are just left hanging, then I hate them.
