I just really enjoyed my companions more and felt more apart of the story/world. I'm really really attached to my Grey Warden

DA2 combat is full of awesome but that's about it.. oh and the mass effect wheel and voiced player! On the rest i'd say DA:O wins.
Did anyone else feel wierd with all quests/places sharing maybe 4 unique models that got re-used all the time? that's the biggest bummer for me when it comes to DA2... made me sad :/ DA2 was still a good game even though it didn't answer anything from DA:O. The true sequel to both games must be DA3 so i'll have to wait for my closure a few more years.
Personally, no. And I know you might be wondering why, and here's why. Dragon Age 2 takes place in one enormous city for the exception of a few parts where you go to ruins and other areas outside the city. This city is different than our cities, it's more or less how cities were hundreds of years ago in countries like Italy. Think of the city in Dragon Age 2 being one enormous apartment complex, because that's essentially what cities back then compared to. When you go to an apartment complex every building in that complex looks the same. There are maybe 3 blueprints used for every unit, so why should this game be designed any differently? If every building I went into had completely different textures and a theme that was not similar to the city then I would feel like it just didn't make any sense. While it may be repetitive, they did this for realism, and it fits.
I found the areas in the Free Marshes to be completely different than the areas within the city. They all felt like they matched the theme of the surrounding areas. If Dragon Age 2 took place all over a country, then you would really have a valid point and I would agree with you 100%, but since this isn't the case, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. I also appreciate the fact you're not fighting the same Darkspawn over and over throughout the entire game. That got really bothersome in the original game, but again, since it took place during the Fifth Blight, it just fit.

OH YEAH, a huge step up, those re-used textures, the re-used character voices on alot of the NPCs, the re-used locations. As far as how to recycle a game goes, its a huge step up!
And the combat, phewww!!! that is such a blast, i love not being able to zoom out to set my AOE radials in a proper area, that is the BOMB BABY.
And the story is the most unique i've ever seen, it's like, it's not even there! which is SO cool!
And the side quests? are all really really wel done and unique, i enjoyed every single side quest it has offered me.
And the combat is amazing! how the enemies just appear is fantastic! im blasting a couple of guys then all of a sudden my mage is dead! 6 other enemies appear out of NOWHERE, the cunning and cleverness of them! So tricky!
Did you even play Origins? Like for real? Reused character voices abounds and the story was every fantasy story ever.

To the credit of DA II, I will say that it is not without it's improvements. I definitely prefer the gameplay and the speaking character, but everything else is sadly lacking for me. It just felt like a great game that was stuffed into an incomplete package, which was rushed, recycled and somewhat devoid of life in terms of atmosphere and environment. It is still a great game on it's own overall, though. I enjoyed it.

Also, where are our "persuasion" or "intimidate" options if we have the appropriate skills and such? smoothe talk our way out of situations?

Yes agree there again.Da:o was made for the rpg fans Da:2 feels like it was made for EA:s purse, rushed out like never before.I think most of the people know it has big faults.80% of the time everything is sandbrown and everything looks the same, the rest of the 20% green and so on.Da:2 could have been a far better game than it is...using same maps over and over it felt like a bad psychological test to me.locolazy wrote...
Origins. Debate over
Let's think about this for a minute. There's only two things they stripped away that has anything to do with "RPG" elements as claimed (although, they're not RPG elements at all). They stripped away the annoying talents that were essentially, useless. I hated the talents, and I often found myself just randomly picking one to get it out of the way. The second thing they did was made it so companions have their own armor sets, and there's lore to back it up.
Now if you want to talk about killing a game, let's talk about Mass Effect 2. They just went overboard in this one. In the original, you got tons of upgrades, armor, weapons from just about every enemy you killed. It felt like you were playing a RPG because defeating foes usually had some kind of reward as loot -- whether it was a boss, which had the best equipment, or just from trash mobs. In Mass Effecdt 2 they nearly stripped away loot ENTIRELY, and replaced upgrades, armor and weapons with this "research" system. While it did have lore behind it (far as the research system -- and that's fine), but when they took away armor and weapon drops, I just thought that went a little too far. Killing things no longer provided loot, and it just felt like another typical FPS, instead of the fantastic RPGFPS that Mass Effect 1 was.
In Dragon Age 2, the only thing they did with loot (which, ineviably, is what makes an RPG) was made it where armor drops could not be used on companions (aside from rings, amulets, and belts). That's NOTHING compared to what they did in Mass Effect 2. Absolutely-no-comparason-what-so-ever. And I doubt anyone truly misses the talents that were stripped away and implemented into your stats (for instance, cunning controls lockpicking now, instead of a seperate talent). It's still an RPG at heart.
You have attribute points that control the amount of damage you do, your accuracy, your crit rtate, your avoidance, health and mana/stamina you have, your lockpicking and disarm skills, and on ward. You target enemies and your attacks are based on your attack roll vs their defense. Regardless to what anyone says, there's no doubt about it that the core RPG elements still exist, they just got rid of garbage no one gave a flying crap about.

Dragon Age: Origins...mainly because it's more of an RPG than Dragon Age 2, DA2 is an action game with a level up mechanic and generaly useless loot to sell, sort of an illusion of it being an RPG without actually being an RPG. I'm also one of those that think ME and ME2 shouldn't even be classified as an RPG. We're one step short of just having enemy mobs drop "souls" or "orbs" for you to collect after the battle so that you can spend them on enhancements.
Also, where are our "persuasion" or "intimidate" options if we have the appropriate skills and such? smoothe talk our way out of situations?
Mass Effect was a true RPG at heart. They killed it so much in Mass Effect 2 that most people forget all the RPG elements the original had. The only thing they did in Dragon Age 2 was got rid of crap that was more of a nuisance than quality RPG mechanics.
People whine about the two small things that BioWare did far as RPG elements go in Dragon Age 2, but they completely forget to mention everything they stripped away in Mass Effect 2, which was nearly EVERYTHING. Just read my previous post.

Your actions felt like they had a real impact on the game world, whereas DA:2's plotline felt like an exercise in futility, as no matter what you do, the SAME events occur.
That, and in Origins you could be in the Orzammar senate one second, fighting a cave full of werewolves another, and finish the day by wiping out a dragon cult in the mountains. You hardly leave Kirkwall in DA:2.

Pretty much. While I do still love DA II, after I beat it last night, it just made me want to jump right back and start another play through of Origins. While I did enjoy the personal story here, I really longed for many different environments and the grand sort of dark epic that Origins delivered in spades.
