Dragon Age Origins has better atmosphere and pace.

Dragon Age II has better user controls, combat and graphics.

Mix them together and it should be perfect.

Mass Effect was a true RPG at heart. They killed it so much in Mass Effect 2 that most people forget all the RPG elements the original had. The only thing they did in Dragon Age 2 was got rid of crap that was more of a nuisance than quality RPG mechanics.

People whine about the two small things that BioWare did far as RPG elements go in Dragon Age 2, but they completely forget to mention everything they stripped away in Mass Effect 2, which was nearly EVERYTHING. Just read my previous post.

Wow, I so disagree.  I played ME and ME2 together, one after the other, so it's not likely I would forget how the original played.  And RP-wise ME2 was no richer than ME was.  Gameplay-wise it moved much more smoothly.  I don't see a radical difference between the two games at all, and find it hard to go back and replay ME1 because it's so clunky.

DA2 did strip a lot of what made Origins such a roleplay-worthy game for me.  The benefits we got (such as the mage animations and branching skill trees which I like) don't outweigh the losses IMO.

I liked them both, but each for very different reasons. On the whole though i prefer the original.

Dragon age origin is a completed game, dragon age 2 is a pushed game by ea, with a confused ending and too many opens door, a hevy recicle of areas (even for main quest, and characters quest, and is sad) a better combat sistem but still work to do, and a bad spawn sistem of enemy, too fills combat (the endless criminal gangs in the city).

Dragon age 2 is a too "pushed game" can be a good bioware game, but has too much thing who need rework and change, and who can be better with some moths again of works.

And the ending... end nothing and this make this DA2 a DA 1.5... a transition game, nothing more nothing less, if this you add his price... 60 bucks... still too much.

Personally, I think Dragon Age 2 is a big step up from Dragon Age: Origins.  I own the Xbox 360 version, and love the combat.  I'm more of an action guy than a tactical guy, and thought the combat was amazing.  The graphics look a lot better in my opinion.  I don't see why a good amount of people have a problem with this game, and I think it should be getting better reviews than it has been.

so you play a strat based RPG and cry that it's not a hack n slash? Were you hit in the head with bat as a child? This would be like me going on MW2 and crying that its not like WoW.

i like both, but to compare:

choice: DA2 wins.. i just got to act 2, and already i feel like there was more compelling choice and consequence in DA2, then in all of DA:O

graphics: overall DA2 wins. the people and most of the textures were significantly upgraded imo.. my only real issue is that the darkspawn are a step back, and the environments weren't varied enough.

gameplay: DA2 by far. im a traditional rpg fan at heart, and i love the tactical combat perspective.. on the PC side, i feel this is still there. on the pc side, there is still auto-attack.. i still can switch between characters and give out commands when needed. i felt the viewpoint on the battlefield is still good.. and we still have the AI customization.

yes, it is a bit easier this time around on the normal difficulty, and the combat animations are faster..... though i still found some of the 'important' fights challenging (the encounters with the dragons, the fight at the end of act 1, etc). also, i am a fan of the faster combat animations.. ill never understand how people can prefer the slower, more sluggish combat animations of DA:O.. and regarding auto-attack.. chris priestly already mentioned it SHOULD have been in the console version and they are working on adding it.

character customization: DA:O wins. i actually like the character creator in DA2, and prefer the face construction in DA2 over DA:O. that being said, only being able to choose human (though i understand their reasoning) is a step back imo.

also, what is a step back, is the inventory. i do think there is a decent amount of character stat customization in the game.. we can still upgrade and min/max everyones weapon.. even varick (since Bianca has a rune slot). we can also min/max with rings and amulets.. and of course there is the upgrade slots available for each character and rune slots.

that being said.. there is a ton of armor that drops.. loads and loads of belts, helms, chest pieces, etc.. and the only person that can use them is hawke.. it gets kinda annoying having to sell 80% of the armor that drops because they arent useful to hawke. also, there are times when i find an upgrade to a decent armor piece, and i would like to be able to give this to my companions.. well, i cant.. i have to sell it. IMO, thats a step back.

crafting: DA2 wins. i really like that once i find a resource node, its permanent. no more having 99 elfroot/lyrium in my inventory in order to craft the potions i need for my adventures..

thus, overall i feel DA2 is a better game so far.. like i said i just started act 2.. but i like the pace of combat.. though character customization was simplified, i am willing to live with the compromises. i also like the story of DA2, and feel that the choices ive had to make were compelling. we'll see if things change once i reach the end.. regardless though, combat and gameplaywise.. i prefer DA2 to DA:O.

As I said earlier I like DA2 but compared to Origins the story is absolute garbage.

I don't have any problem with the combat.  I'm saying I prefer action RPGs, which Dragon Age 2 is in a way.  I'm not crying about the combat at all.  I was wondering why people didn't like the game that much dumb***.

they are too different to be compared directly. plus its not factual whether a game is "better" than another.

I much prefer Origins, DA2 was alright but I've some to expect more than "alright" from Bioware.

I love both games and definitely prefer the more personal story of DA2, but there are aspects of Origins that I preferred (tactical view, friendly fire on lower difficulties, elven faces - except Canmen).

All the hate for DA2 makes me feel quite sad.

Well, if we're going to compare them Dragon Age:Origins I felt was superior. It felt like a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, not Mass Effect. Don't get me wrong, I really like Mass Effect but why would you make it to where two separate games in two separate settings share too many similarities?

I prefer Origins, DA 2 is a decent game. But I expect better then "decent" from a developer like Bioware.

They're both pretty damn awesome. DA2 let me get my blood-splattered mitts on a huge axe from the very beginning, though, and is therefore momentarily superior in my eyes.

Origins by far.  DA:2 felt like i had to save every freaking kid / run away mage in the city.  Soon i stopped caring and just blew thru them just to get further in the story.  And spending 23 hours in 1 city with a lakeside beach, a mountain, and a deeproads map got old....fast.
