Personally, I think Dragon Age 2 is a big step up from Dragon Age: Origins.

I own the Xbox 360 version, and love the combat.

I'm more of an action guy than a tactical guy, and thought the combat was amazing.

Bioware appealing to lowest common denominator in action.

Origins.

Though I would say the Baldur's Gate series is the ultimate RPG of all time, hands-down.

Origins by far (PC format for both)

Very little improvement in DA2 (Completed as a Female Warrior) in comparison - I won't be replaying it in the near future and may pass my disc on to my partner so he can see just how terrible it is. Back to DA:O for me - back to a real story and tactics you can get you teeth into.

dragon age origins is an epic rpg game, maybe the best game I've ever played, a masterpiece...
dragon age 2 is an action game for casual console boys...

Origins is easily the better game.

DA II was certainly a good game, and well worth playing in my opinion. If it weren't part of the DA series, but instead a new game entirely its own, it would probably be more well received than it has been. The hate stems from disappointment, the game fails at much Origins did so well. And pulling a lot of things from Mass Effect just wasn't needed, the Dragon Age series was just fine when it was doing its own thing.

Well. Dragon Age 2 at least doesn't throw droves of Drakspawn at me. It's more diverse in combat, but Origins had more going for it in general.

Origins by far!

DA2 is rushed and lacks soul. EPIC FAIL!

I really don't get all the hate going on... I loved and love completely Origins, I have loved Dragon Age 2 aswell, both of them are great games but Dragon Age 2 is NOT Origins 2, it's a more character driven driven story.
While I can understand that you feel somehow deluded since you wanted some sort of Origins 2 sincerely you should try to put that feeling aside and try to appreciate Dragon Age 2 for itself, not as sequel of Origins (which is not).

Said that, I can't wait to have an Origins 2 (and there should better be the top-down tactical view, taking it off in DA2 sincerely was very odd but understandable) but Dragon Age 2 is not that bad how most of you picture it.
Atleast for me it delivered, emotionally and gameplay wise, and I enjoyed every little thing in my 58 hours before finishing it.

If it's not a sequel then it shouldn't have the 2 behind the dragon age name. Who's the first Dragon Age?

What if Gran Turismo 6 plays like Burnout would the fans of the serie judge it as a separate game or feel betrayed from the direction the serie is taking.

Dragon Age Origins has a lot more to offer, better story, better musical score, better item system, and better combat as far as tactics and strategy is concerned.

The random item generaiton in Dragon Age 2 was horrendous. I would find unique rings and amulets only to find a default ring or amulet in a NPC vendor inventory that does the same thing, Bioware did this to make it seem like there are more items in the game when they're really are not. Also the variety of Unique armor is utterly pointless since once you find better armor you simply trash your previous armor since you can equip anything to your teammates.

I went through the entire game using Plate Armor in act 1, after Act 2 I had Warplate of the Fallen, and at the begining of Act 3 I used Stonehammer and then the Champions armor.

Bioware added a ton of new items but they quickly become obsolete and all the vanilla armors look the same.

The PC version doesn't even have an Isometric camera view. Making it harder to target the ground with AoE abilities and set up strategic positions, but the combat has been overhauled to a point where strategy doesn't even matter.

The same maps used over and over, the repetitive quests, many of the main quests feel pointless as well. The main quest and story isn't nearly as epic as Origins was, you're not saving the entire country in Dragon Age 2 you're simply winning a popularity contest in ONE of the Cities in the Free Marches.

In retrospect DA2 is an incomplete game and can't possibly be a worthy successor for Origins.

Now I must sleep, just got off work and am tired, happy hunting.

I prefer both gameplay and story writing so far, though I'm still in act 1. Nightmare is a blast and actually challenging this time, and I feel much more connected to my character with the story being so much more personal.

Origins was my favorite game since BG2, and I might have a new one.

Origins definitely.
DA2 was supposed to be about choices and consequences yet whatever you decide, everything ends up same, whereas in Origins you could decide the fate of many nations.
Companion wise, both games have some outstanding companions but none from DA2 comes close to Morrigan. Also inability to speak to them whenever you want to find out more about them is a huge minus for DA2.
DA2 took out many things that made Origins great and added some that were unneeded (if they took the money they invested in voicing Hawke and spent it on design it would have been much better), therefore DA2 is really really inferior to Origins in every aspect.

Origins, of course. DA2 is only a console action RPG game badly ported to PC.

I love them both very much. But if pressed I have to say: DA2. But ONLY in combination with DAO.

I like the story from DA 2 better than the Origins one. If you are harsh you could say that the Story from Origins was a whole Lord of the Rings ripoff. The Sauron like exploding tower at the end made me laugh and cry at the same time. Origins is a good game, but that was the point the story became utter crap in my eyes, like many say about the story in DA 2. I´m sure there is a Novel out there which has lead to the story of DA 2 . But calling a, as said, Lord of the Rings spin off a great and ambitious story...............

Can't honestly put one ahead of the other...

In DA2 some of the set pieces that played out without your interaction (even though you could be a part of it) irked me a little. I feel that we had less choice and consequence, other than a couple of moments, than DAO. This was a big negative as one of the most appealing things about Dragon Age was the ability to influence many key events...not just be a participator.

So I guess for story based gameplay - DAO wins.
For entertainment, less boring stuff, DA2 wins.

They're almost different genres though so it's hard to run with any conviction...will do another playthrough and make up my mind then.

I like them both very much but feel as if DAO was a more complete and well-rounded experience. Setting? Check. Lore? Check. Characters? Check. Story? Check. Combat? Check.

Correct me if i´m wrong, but Never Winter Nights 2 wasn´t the Sequel of NWN 1 either.
And i can´t remember people making a fuss about it.

I personally enjoyed both of them immensly, and they both had their goods and their bads. Origins was, overall, a better story, but when end game rolled around in both games I was just loving it. But Dragon age 2 has better party members, because they seem more real to me then some of the origins ones (Sten was boring for example), since they have their own lives and what not.

I like the combat a bit better in Dragon age 2, but not too much, unless its the rogue, which they vastly improved IMO. I also feel they did some good balance design in Dragon age 2 from Origins, and I do like that you can upgrade your moves instead of just getting the move, some that you don't even use because you just want one further down the line, it added some extra depth to the combat, espically on the harder difficulties.

The fact that Dragon age 2 is not a direct sequel to origins I actually really liked, because of all the little links they put in, makes me feel they have a grand design for future dragon age games and they'll end up tying it all together. So overall, they're different games, and both are just awesome, I can't wait to see what Bioware does next with the franchise.
