wow. you are just a complete moron.  hey, here is a clue.  when you simplify everything that is the exact opposite of making it more "advanced".  this game is for 17 year old button mashing x-boxers.  it was supposed to be for mature adult RPGers if it wanted to be a true heir to BG, NWN and DA:O.  but EA and Bioware went for the ****** crowd like you.  oh nooooz there are too many choices for character classes and races and traits and skills and equipment!  how will i ever make it thru this game if i have to think and plan at every turn!  the point of a really good RPG is to make you think, in detail, about everything you are doing and every choice you are making. from a charcter development point, from a party/companion development point, from a plot/story point.  there are a world of crappy action/adventure hack and slash trash out there if you don't want to think and mash buttons and do combos and spew blood everywhere.  now RPGs don't have to be as complicated and open ended as Morrowind (that was too "open ended") but the same cave over and over?  one city (with a few "outskirts"?  every cave or dungeon being one long corridor essentially?  DA:O was too limited in my opinion compared to NWN but the dumbing down was minor (mostly a lack of variety in equipment) and any such failings were compensated for by a very big world with multiple different areas to go to in any order and a pretty vast and sprawling story.  this game dumbed down the already dumbed down DA:O to the point that calling it an RPG is a farce.  if game sites and stores weren't so in the pocket and up the arse of EA they should rightly put this game in the action/adventure category next to prince of persia.

if you like your games dumb and bloody then i am sure this is a hit for you.  i liked god of war, it was a neat story and it didn't make me think too hard.  this is an RPG it was supposed to make me think and it was supposed to be engaging and instead it was a steaming pile of feces and if you like it and think it is "advanced" shows you have ****e for taste (and like the taste of ****e).

If you are split on whether or not DA2 is a good game, you need to figure out what a good game is, cos DA2 is NOT a good game dude. Maybe the trash you play on the Xbox/PS3 is so frequent that when a subpar game comes your way you think its good...

But trust me, the game isn't good, why do you think the Lead Designer of DA1 said "i didn't like where DA2 was going" ??

You know why? Cos it was going straight to the bargain bin in your local walmart

sayth the one that doesnt own it. register your game then play before you have any  ideal that the game is bad its vastly improved and story line is griping and sadden in some parts

any proof of the lead designer saying those words at all? i see no websites that say that at all please posta link before you shoot off  a quoted saying by the lead devs

We all agree in that everybody else is wrong. Even if they agree with us.

(and DA III is going to be based on what they did on DA II unless 2012 apocalypse so don't hold your breath)

Here's what I think DA:2 failed at and why:
-Companion interaction...
Don't get me started on this one. The fact that you could have about 2-3 dialogues with a character within three years kind of made the dialogue system seem much like awakening than origins (which it was).
-Locations...
To me they seemed as pretty generic. Bioware said we would see changes in the city as time progressed and as our actions changed it, but the only difference I saw was the banners in lowtown changing. Also the re-using of dungeons was a big turn-off.
-Equipment...
The fact that I had to have two stats which focused on getting the armor I wanted was kind of annoying as I tried to have a mix between armor and 'mage' clothing. I also didn't like the companion armor (of course you might say) mainly because I felt that many characters didn't change at all (unlike what bioware told us beforehand) and I didn't like their look. Other than that I didn't like the tiny backpack, but that is another tiny issue.
-Story...
I got interested in the story when the mage-templar dynamics started out, but this was when the game was pretty much finished so I can't say I liked the story much either. The epic adventure is gone (I think so, you might not) and has been replaced with a personal story which is not very coherent or sensical to me.

This is apart from the dialogue wheel, lack of origins and so on, but these were pretty vital to the story I think so I have excluded them from this post.

What I did like...
-Graphics.
Never really cared that much for graphics as I'm not that kind of gamer, but they are much better.
-References to DA:O warden or characters from DA:O
I'm a sucker for that game...
-Certain combat characteristics.
Combat does seem to flow more naturally now, but the speed is not really my thing. I don't like the lack of tactics in battle (no change difficulty responses plz -.-) although I can see why that would naturally happen when the pace is increased.
-Business/questlines
I found the mine storyline quite fascinating and I don't really know why as well as the feeling of running a business. It might just be me. This was more interesting to me than the main storyline in the beginning to be honest.

Just some of my thoughts.

Correction, most trolls and people complaining too much about the changes agree, the rest of us are satisfied.

And I love how people who say they hate the game either yell at people who like it or just give the changes as the reason they hate the game; despite the fact if you took out those few small changes it would be exactly like DA:O just with a better story.

EA won't learn anything from this. If the game passes their fiscal expectations, they will push out another sequel that is exactly the same. If it does not, they will can the Dragon Age franchise altogether.

Actually, "most" of us don't agree. First, this forum is fairly split on the subject, as mentioned before. Second, the vast, vast, VAST majority of people that have the game don't even post on these forums. There is a very vocal minority, no doubt, but guess what? There was and still is one for ME2, there was and is one for Fallout 3/New Vegas, there's always a very vocal minority that takes over a few message boards when a second/third game comes out that state these very things.

Personally, I don't prefer Origins or DA2 or DA2 over Origins. Both do what they do very well, both are fun, enjoyable, and entertaining.

This game is far from a "disaster", it's actually a really good game.

It's hard to see something as being  "good" when it's a stripped down version of a much superior product.

Lets see now:
- The menu screens are boring and simple. Out goes the old scroll type menu for a bland black background.
- Locations are EXTREMELY limited. So limited, that the creators felt like throwing in crap like Day/Night to trick people into thinking that there are more locations.
- Customization is extremely limited. So much for having your entire team wearing the same style armor.

I simply cannot see how someone can like the game if they've played Origins. Hell, even people who've worked on the game have come out and admitted that it was rushed.

This game was a HUGE backlash for Bioware. I mean it even forced me to make a new account out of fear that they will ban me from playing.

Menu? What do you mean by menu? The game's menu is pretty much exaclty the same. If you're talking about all menus (inventory, skill tree menu, quests, etc) then this one is actually sleeker and more well designed. Simple yes, but why the hell would I want my menus complicated?

Locations is a fault, I don't disagree. Does this make for a disaster of game? Uh, no, not even close and in no way shape or form. It's a legit complaint - no game is perfect.

Customization is worse than DA:O but not bad by any means. It's still "good", it still gets the job done, and you can still customize every character except armor. You can do weapons, shield, trinkets, rings, necklace, etc. You can't change their armor, that's it.

Compare this to:

Better combat
Better graphics (debatable, based on which art style you like)
better story (yes, it has a better story, how many times have you played a hero trying to take down an ultimate evil like you do in Origins? Pretty much every game out there)
better talent tree/skills

Now, even if you don't agree with some of the above positives, that still doesn't make this a disaster of a game, or a terrible game, or a bad game. It's a very solid rpg, it's long, lots to do, many side quests, fun combat, interesting story, you still have the tactics on hard mode and above, etc etc.

If you want to say the game isn't as good as Origins, I can completely understand that. However,  to say this game is a disaster or is bad, is plain out ridiculous, it has all the elements to make a very solid, fun RPG, and it's just that.

It just so happens that because you and others compare it to Origins it looks bad, but in reality, it's not, it's a solid,  fun, good  RPG

...that DA2 was a rushed disaster, lets get on talking about DA3.

What do you guys expect? I, for one, am quite gald that this DA2 fiasco happened. If nothing else it will teach EA (and Bioware) that we're not just consumer drones that will eat up any trash they throw at us. What does this mean? Well, I assume that they will go back to the drawing boards for DA3.

So hopefully we'll get a lot more areas (as oppose to ****ty attempts at making day/night act as a different location trigger). Personally, the main thing I want see back is the old 'scroll' type menu screen and the ability to change the clothing of companions.

No. A lot of people, naturally, do not like the game, but you have no conclusive proof that the game was a "rushed disaster." Opinions are opinions, but you do not know the majority opinion.

However, I do agree that it was rushed, and many things were simplified that I didn't think needed to be. Still, I like the game for what it is, and Dragon Age: Origins was not perfect either.

Hey now I agree with your post but don't go insulting all of us on 360......lol   Image IPB
We aren't all teenage button mashing tards that have no concept of what an RPG is anymore.

this is also for the other consol guy.  i like consol games sometimes too.  sometimes you want something simpler with pretty graphics and slick game play that is like watching a big movie that you are simply moving the character thru.  like God Of War or Assassin's Creed.  they are great.  but they are not RPGs and they weren't mean to be.  if this was  marketed as Dragon Age: The Consol Button Mashing Linear Action Adventure Eye Candy Game then i wouldn't complain.  i simply wouldn't have bought it and left it to those who like such stuff.

but Bioware was the maker of Baldur's Gate.  Neverwinter Nights.  and even Dragon Age: Origins.  really great to really good, immersive, complex, thought provoking, complex and vast games.  but they were always done without that ugly 1st person nature and complete lack of structure and overwhelming amount of inventory that came with Elder Scrolls.

as a decendent of those, and being sold as an RPG is just an utter failure and it is absolute tripe.  seriously if the only thing wrong was it was the lack of variety of places you could go that would be bad enough?  how many places where there in DA:O?  the deep roads/dwarven kingdom was bigger than the kirkwall and surrounds you get in this game?  DA:O had like 5-6 major areas/worlds and a ton of smaller side places.  and somebody went to the effort to write and create this vast world of DA you'd think they could at least manage to have the game take us to Par Vallon or the other Free Marshes cities or even Antiva.  had i payed $20 bucks for this as some sort of DLC min adventure it might not be so bad but to call this a stand alone game is just so absurd as to be insulting.

Anyone for whome "menu design" is a major factor when talking aestheitics and not usuability should safely be ignored.

The menus look better anyways, they convey more information in a much clearer fashion that the DAO menus ever did.

What did you do in DA:O that was any better? You are a guy, you have to go collect an army of people to stop an evil monster. Is there any more cliche, overdone story in the histroy of games other than shooting soliders in FPS games?

This game at the very least not the same old "round up people to kill a bad guy", which is an improvement right from the start.

objectivelysubjective - I see what you mean now, so you think...menus looking better has absoutely anything to do with how good a game is? Er... okay..

A better story? DA2 barely had a story at all.

You probably need to replay the game again. :)
The story concept was indeed better (and an evolution from the previous way of storytelling), but the execution was poor, so it didn't show this new method's capabilities.

The menus look better anyways, they convey more information in a much clearer fashion that the DAO menus ever did.

The inventory menu doesn't even have a sorting option and you have to search things by hand...

I have to disagree on the story part. Atleast in DA:O you didn't spend the first 5 hours collecting cash...

I prefer an overused 'set-up' because there was so much that could be changed in DA:O considering how you did things (take werewolves/dalish scenario for instance). In DA:2 you have one issue which was interesting to me. This was the Mage vs. Templar (which we already had a taste of in DA:O), but like I said earlier this was in the end of the game. Before this there was no real coherent main story line.
