I liked when (spoiler) he blamed me, since I was a Mage, for my mothers death. That was nice of him.

He blames you no matter what. I was a rogue and he was all like, "You should have gotten there sooner!" As if I hadn't been trying to get my ass there as quickly as possible already. <_<

And Leandra blames you for Carver/Bethany. I don't think it's an active grudge or based on rationality at all, it's just an impulsive 'why didn't you do something' kind of thing. They're probably also blaming themselves but, unlike them, you can fight. I don't think they really mean it.

And if it weren't for Gamlen, we wouldn't have even noticed Leandra was missing as soon as we did.

I wish we'd been able to invite him to live in Hawke's mansion, period.

Then again, my Hawke was the sort that - left to her own devices and given the option - would have ended up with a small army of tabby kittens living in her library.

I really liked Gamlen. He was incredibly believable, and finding Charade was one of the few bright spots in the game.

Even if we couldn't have moved him in with us, I wish we could have gotten him a nicer place than the one we'd all been living in in Act 1.

I think the entire concept of family was done astoundingly well (at least it really hit me hard).
SPOILERS
I actually shed tears and felt physically ill when my Hawke held her mutilated and dying mother in her arms. I felt a pang every time I remet my brother (a Grey Warden in my 1st playthrough) and he left after a brief conversation. I disliked my Uncle and then grew incredibly fond of him by the end, I wouldn't have minded if he'd left his hovel and come and stayed with me.

I didn't like him, but I understood him in Act 1. Then during That Quest in Act 2, I genuinely came to like him. He was written very well for that part and his voice actor was fantastic. I wanted to hug the poor guy.

Every time he opened his mouth, I just see Teagan (same VA). At first I thought he was a dick but by the time Act 3 rolls around, you see a more human side of him.
He blamed my LadyHawke for mom's death but so did Hawke.
It was cool finding his daughter though and she's a really sweet kid.

I admit to freaking out the minute I saw Quentin because his hairstyle made him look similar to Gamlen and I couldn't tell if it was Gamlen speaking in a slightly different voice for the big reveal or what, at first. I wasn't absolutely SURE he was somebody else until the actual battle. Whoops.

You know, the sheer possibility that Gamlen was the serial killer and somehow his dead wife's face was exactly like his sister's... Not to fault you for considering it, just that would've been horribly twisted. Nice, uh, thought there.

I never hated Gamlen personally, even in the prologue and Act 1. Yes, he was incredibly jealous and made some really stupid mistakes, but...

He still put the effort of finding Hawke a way out, and he still offered to let the whole Hawke family to live in his tiny home. He didn't have to do that: If he didn't have an heart he'd have simply refused to meet the family at the docks and his life would have carried on as normal without the added "problems" on his hands.

Even if he wasn't terribly agreeable most of the time, I still wanted to invite him to the mansion ever since Act 2, or at least offer him an upgrade for his house. I mean, even Merrill in the Allienage had a much, much better house than he did.

I was sad for Gamlen, I thought he was just a man with some need for hugs. Sure was glad when I found his daughter though, he seemed happy... then pissed right after that.

He was the best NPC in the damn game! The best part is when he's in the brothel.

Gamlen's the kind of character that grows on you. It's hard not to feel sympathetic for him when he's the one who takes care of his parents and the only thing they cared about was Leandra. He's a jerk who made some bad choices, but who doesn't make bad choices? At least Leandra was nice enough to not be hateful, and he grows up more in the end, particularly when you do the Charade quest the right way.

I liked Gamlen. Honestly, if he died in Act 3, it would have been worse than the mother's death, to me. Gamlen will be a rich man one day, that cheese wheel is what, 7 years old? It'll be an antique in no time. The completely unused brush, too.

You probably wouldn't find any tabbies left, after Merrill told Anders about them. And I'm glad Charade wasn't a charade.

I don't get all the *cough*Love for the overwhelming git.   He was a jealous brother who was pissed when his sister ran off to be happy, and never cared about the kids.    Then outside of stealing the entire estate, he loses it.  what a git.     *if your going to steal an entire estate, KEEP IT* The place was a heck of alot better then lowtown.

That being said, it's why your mom got the estate in the will, they knew she'd keep it, unlike gamlin who lost it within a few years.

Sure he took care of the family, but he was still an abessed git wishing on a treasure and even loosing his own family to try and find, and he has the gal to blame his sister for actually sticking with love, rather then being forced into a marriage.  That's exactly why I hate him.

I felt sorry for him, when she died. *not to mention I was ticked because I killed that one guy with the kid looking for the killer, or so he said*  It sucks to lose family, but I told him what happen and also not to blame mages since it was one  crack pot mage who was insane with grief.  (I was also a mage)

I felt the same. Until the end, when I did his personal quest and found out partially, why he was perhaps so bitter and angry. No one ever really loved or cared about him. The fact that his parents bequeathed everything to his sister is proof of that.

I hated him at first, but he really grows on a person. I like the end of his Act III quest where he says he's glad I'm in the family, etc. and it's almost an actual loving family moment...and then he ends with "Stay out of my damned business, girl!"

Well atleast Hawke gave him a Happy ending by finding his long lost daughter so i guess now Hawke has a cousin :D

Yes! I loved that quest so much. I love how, at the end, he is so grateful, but still tells Hawke to stay out of his business, lol.

Or it was cause his parents knew he couldn't be trusted with any of it. That he spend it all on reckless childish dreams, gambling and a brothel. Notice how he lives in Lowtown but spends all his money in a up town bar? Yeah. Just the person to entrust all your money to. His parents were smart. They wanted it to be in the hands of the Grown women who already was having a family and her own life. Gamlen wasn't really showing as a legacy. She already had 3 for them by the point when they were die'n.

Also for context. Since Leandra was still writing the parents they would have known she was pregnant a second time. They may not have known it was twins. But they knew it was at least 2 children to Gamlen's 0 at the time. Even as an adult he was still being petty and acting like a selfish child. It was probably only guilt that got him to return. It's only because it's a game where you don't really need him once you hit act 1? you may have sympathy. But he deserves none. It was all his making and his own selfish reasons.

Part of me was still not sure I let Charade meet him. I felt like I'd be lie'n to say he is a changed man or a nice guy. He's not really either. I saw no evolution. Maybe he was only looking for Leandra cause she was throwing him coins. All I'm sayin.

I think Gamlen was better written than Leandra or Bethany. Both of them seemed very static to me, while Gamlen displayed interesting character development.

I liked him. He was an ass but somewhat sympathetic in the first act, then became more sympathetic in the second and third acts. His "blaming" my character for Leandra's death didn't really annoy me the way it did when Leandra blamed my character for the sibling's death.

Then the cousin story was nice.

Exactly my thoughts. I can add Carver too. Both males of your family have character. Of course I feel sad when Leandra killed but for me, she is the woman who dressed like an blood mage hooker standing by fireplace. (When I first entered my house in game I tought Idunna somehow find his way in my new mansion Image IPB)

Can't invite both Gamlen and Hawke's cousin to the mansion and it really feels bad.
