Near the end of act 2 I decided to help Isabella recover the relic but after the fight she just took off with it and in act 3 she is not on my roster. Is there another way to keep her or is she gone for good?
Isabella left me :(

She left too for me as well however I got her back by nagging her about how good friends we were.

If you do all her companion quest she'll more than likely come back before the end of the act. And I've heard only tell her to give the relic back if you're romancing her because it's permanent bye-bye otherwise.

Not true, I was about 70% friend with her (I was romancing Anders), told her to give the relic back, and she still showed up right before fighting the arishok. I defended her, and gained a boat load of friend points
