I was playing Dragon Age 2 for a while, and found that my Escape key had stopped working. It only stopped working recently in game. It has been working for the past few days when I have been playing Dragon Age 2. I tested it on other games and it worked fine. How can I make it work in Dragon Age 2? I can't save without it.

I'm glad it's not only me! I loaded up a save just now and during a pretty crazy fight I wanted to reload... i'm mashing escape and nothing is happening! I've reset the keybinds from the main menu but still no ingame system menu!

I've seen this about 5 times and I think it's more then just the escape key. With mine I hit escape after a tough fight to save and found it didn't work. Neither did any keyboard hotkey (J, C, etc.). I didn't notice it dropping during the fights, pause and mouse clicking worked fine. The second the fight ended though I couldn't even open and windows with the buttons on the right and the mouse. My keyboard was still working fine in windows as each time I had to bring up task manager to kill DA2 and restart it.

Is there no fix for this other than replaying whatever hellish fight you just did? 'Cause I just barely lived through the fight at the end of the abandoned thaig...

This is very anoying bug, but quicksave key is still working for me so I can atleast save before forced restart.

Well, I found I had the 'same' problem where no hotkey for any menu option worked (map, character record, inventory, tactics and whatnot) and even using the mouse for the icons on the right didn't work.
I did find, like shelafun, that the quicksaves still worked.
Then I installed the beta 1.01 patch and everything worked again.

It works normally after a game restart although you have to do a hard quit (alt+F4) to get out of it. As for the patch it is not really a fix for the problem because it just happened to me and I have the patch. As Shelafun said the autosave still works and it has saved me a few times from losing progress. I notice it most when I try to bring up the system menu but your inventory, journal, map, etc... will not come up either. The only thing you can do is control your characters which include switching areas.
In a pinch if you really need to save in an area like the abandoned thaig you can always try to use the quicksave button which is F5. I haven't actually tried the quicksave yet since it only just occured to me but it should work. I am not sure if this problem is happening on other formats but for the PC I would just use F5 to save and alt-F4 to quit and restart the game. I still hope this problem gets fixed soon though.

I just wanted to add that quicksave actually does work. It happened to me again so I got a chance to test it. You should see a little swirling thing pop up for a second on the right side of your screen when you do a quicksave.

This happened to me yesterday, annoyingly enough. Other keys work fine but for some reason my escape key stopped working. Only happens in DA2, other games are all fine. Tried loading an old save, rebooting, resetting keybinds to default, and it's still not working. Anyone have any bright ideas? Not being able to skip through cutscenes when the game crashes is really irritating...

If it is anything like the problem experienced by those of us who posted here originally then I would guess that patch 1.01 will resolve the problem. If not, then you'll have to go through the stickies, fill out a report form (so to 'speak') and see if the tech savvy members can help you.

This has happened to me yesterday with ME3. No way to fix this?

For what it's worth, esc isn't working for me, but "fn + esc" (the windows key) works for some reason.

If anyone saw what I added as a comment originally, forget that. I was less than clear just then about what forum I was answering in, sorry. There is a special situation regading some important interface keys and the UT3-based games here, ME-1 and ME-2, particularly ME-2.

My "Esc" key works fine. But I have similar behaviour with the "PrnScr" key.Amielleon wrote...

Alone... nothing. In combination with the "Windows" (not the "Fn") key, success.
No idea why...

My 'Esc' key is working but my 'a' key is not! My Hawke is like Zoolander, he can only make left turns, lol. But seriously, it's almost not worth playing at this point it's so frustrating. Is there anyway to remap the keyboard, the keybinds menu seem to only handle shortcuts, not the basic controls...
