That's nice to know, but it doesn't really address the issue of deriving pleasure from causing other people grief as being an unhealthy emotional state..... does it?  ;^)

And with that, I'll bid you farewell. My wife and I are off on a motorcycle ride through the Rocky Mountains for the afternoon. Now THAT'S a rewarding passtime.  :^D

I am Merselpath, head of the organisation commonly known as the NWN Greifers. I am not here to argue with anyone, but to take part in a conversation. Most of us griefers are reasonable people.
Based on your group's showing here thus far, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. :P
I am the only member of our group on these forums, AFAIK.

We are a small group. At our peak, we had about 6 active griefers. I have always been our most active member. At the moment, we are going through a quiet phase. The months of January to April were extremely productive. We have griefed a range of NWN servers, hitting some very hard. On each of Ravenloft, Arelith, Amia and FRC, we have killed around 200 characters.
That's it? I thought you guys had a larger brag list than that. Something like 20 servers?
I gave you the 4 most-hit servers. We have a 'brag list' of much more than 20 servers. On most servers, we have made around 50-150 kills, but have reached the 200 mark on those 4 servers.

I would like to make it clear that we only 'attack' within the game, and never outside of the game. We log on and kill people, which is what the game intended us to do. We never engage in illegal activities, like hacking servers.
Ah, I see, you believe that because of piece of software contains any exploitable bugs (and what software doesn't?), it manifests anthropomorphic qualities like intent, and further, that it intends you to exploit those bugs despite the express wishes of those running that software. Do I have that about right? Do other inanimate objects besides software often express their thoughts to you in this fashion?
Too deep for me.

It obviously isn't in my interests to reveal here exactly what method we use. Some servers have protected against particular methods, but we are frequently discovering new techniques. There is really a lot that one can do with NWN.
I'm confused. Why would it not be in your interests to reveal your methods? Come now, don't be modest, let us bask in your brilliance. Unless, of course, you realize that you're accessing these servers without permission, in which case your hesitance to reveal your methods makes sense. And it's hard to see how you couldn't, given the acrimony directed at you for your activities, some of which you highlight later in this post.
It makes it far easier to produce counter-scripts if you know exactly what methods we are using. You seem to enjoy trailing off on your own thoughts, though...

I have received numerous threats. The folks on FRC apparently wanted to find me and break my legs and arms. Others just wanted to smash my house up.
I see. So you DEFINITELY are aware that they don't want you on their servers interfering with their play. Thanks for clearing that up.
I definitely am aware that some people take this game too seriously, yes. My aim, though, is to have enjoyment.

The harsh reality, however, is that most of the people making these threats are angry nerds who probably step outside the confines of their mom's basement very infrequently. A lot of people are addicted to NWN. If anything, we are helping those people, by showing them that they are pursuing an addiction which they can't even control.
Oh, I get it now! You're good samaritans! What a relief! And here I thought I'd have to draft some letters to clear up this little misunderstanding.
Oh, you're another lawyer? Every server has about 20 lawyers playing. Why are lawyers so attracted to NWN?

I myself used to RP on NWN quite obsessively, and I look back on that period with shame. I was playing at least 6 hours every day. Now, I spend about 2 hours a day griefing. I still consider it to be a slightly unhealthy habit, but it provides me with some quick fun. I do it because I enjoy it. I view it as a hobby. A lot of players tell me, after I've killed their character, that I have no life. But hey, they are devoting their own life to a fantasy world. So... *shrugs*
So because you had a problem with gaming addiction, everyone who plays games must also? Did your coffee table tell you so, or did you reason your way to that conclusion all by your lonesome? :P
Only one way for you to find out.

I would like to point out that scare-mongering does not affect us. We have enough experience with the internet, that we know when someone is BSing.
Fantastic! Then you should also be able to tell when someone is NOT feeding you a line. This is great news.
My ISP are decent and fair. I would never do something illegal with my computer, but if I ever did accidentally do something illegal, then they would notify me of it, and I would make sure that it didn't happen again.
Actually, pumpkin, it's not the ISP's job to monitor illegal activity. It's the governments, though ISPs will occasionally step in, usually in order to avoid liability themselves. The fact that they haven't told you you're doing something illegal, is not a magic seal of legality. But I digress! Since you say you would never do something illegal with your computer, and would stop if you were informed that you had, we can end this silly dispute right now! Since you've admitted to accessing protected computers against the express wishes of their owners and causing harmful interference with their play, you are in violation of F.C.R Ch. 18 section 1030 sub. (5)(A). Further, if you did so by means of stolen or keygenned cd keys, as it certainly appears based on the number of cd keys of some of your members, you are also in violation of the same section, sub. (6)(A). Since, as you say, you're a reasonable guy, I'm sure it will not be necessary to inform anyone else of this fact, and you'll just stop, as you claim. I'm so glad we could have this little chat.
You're waffling again, and inferring things which aren't there. I'm not sure what your motive is, but you have wasted an awful lot of time telling me how badly you're gonna screw me over in the courts of law. Why not just go and do it, instead of possy-footing around here?

When did I access a protected computer, and where do I admit to that?  Sounds like you have some great evidence there. Confessions from me which exist only in your head.

I haven't read every post in this thread, but some posters have said stuff along the lines of: Don't take yourselves so seriously. I recommend that everyone listens to them. If NWN is causing you to get stressed out, then take a break. Step outside. People get worked up over games, and it is ultimately because you can't control everything that happens in them - even if you want to. That's just the nature of multiplayer games.
So the stated goal of your group as expressed in the NAME you've annointed it with is to cause grief, but you don't want people to get worked up. Did your toaster oven grill up that little gem for you?

Funky
Nope. We're greifers, not griefers.

Get over yourself.

Er, if you say so? Or if you don't say so. I'm not actually sure what you're saying, tbh. I enjoy killing characters. Whether the player gets annoyed or not doesn't affect my enjoyment.

Have fun with that. I did the Appalachian Trail last summer. Haven't tried the Rockies. Motorbiking, though? Come on dude, you have legs. Use them. :P

The rest of your response to me doesn't really merit attention, but as to this:

Any computer accessing the internet is 'protected' under 1030, as I already explained earlier in this thread, along with citations, should you care to check them. You admitted to accessing them in your response to me - well over twenty, in your words. Thanks for that. :)

In reading up on you and studying a bit because lets face it...people like you are in a word, nuts. They remind me of old drunks like your hero you quote often, Albert. How you often say things about how Hitlers mien Kampf was a great book and even try and apply his ideals to griefing are disturbing....

There is a chapter in Hitler's Mein Kampf entitled 'The Strong Man is Mightiest Alone'.

The beauty of solo griefing is that you have that total freedom. Griefing itself is already liberating, and as a solo griefer on an RP server you feel in total control. While Billy Bob Roleplayer is emoting in great detail that he is quietly reading a book, you're suddenly impaling his head with an axe. There is that element of unconfined speed, as well as the off-the-cuff decision-making and panache.

That and that alone would make normal folks shy away from you. I read an excellent article on griefers the other day Albert...or Issac whichever fake name you are using this read and it applied to you in so many ways I chuckled and lolled all through it. Being the example of the Gif Theory is not really something to aspire to you know, Albert?

Anyhow...I am off and my offer still stands for you all to call the Orlando Police and report me for slander but make sure you know that you will have to cough up that anomity you all need to survive in the background.

This thread just never ends. So, now Merselpath has come and made a fool of himself, TSMDude is still rambling about... something or other... and FunkySwerve, who is a top-dog lawyer, is suggesting that it is illegal to log on to a NWN server. Frick, we're all screwed! Let's run, cuz they're gonna shut us all down.

I'm not suggesting it, I'm flat out saying it, with citations, but only if the host has made it plain you're not welcome there, denying you permission, and only if you're doing harm by being there (crashing it deliberately being an eminent example of harm). Most especially if you're using keygenned keys to do it. Rocket science, this is not. And no, I'm not claiming to be a 'top-dog', save by comparison to these idiots who are trying to make up the law to further their bullying.

Incidentally, I have made my ISP aware of this thread, just so that they are aware of the nature of the people flooding them with demands.

Do let us know how your prosecution attempts go, Funky.

You really don't have much grasp of the law, do you? I never said *I* would be prosecuting. In fact, I have no personal stake in this at all either as a prosecutor or a victim, aside from the one failed griefing attempt you pulled in response to this thread, on the 31st, which our scripts blocked and logged (not terribly impressive hacks there, by the by - 2das? really?).

I'll just be passing this information along to your ISPs, and the relevant authorities, who would have no reason to report to me. Given the number of CD Keys you've been logged using though...lol. Nevermind the fact that Bioware has already cooperated with these admins and server banned a whole host of your keys, and that they've exhausted all other options in defending themselves from you.

I doubt any overseas griefers will see any prosecution, but I wouldn't get overly fond of your current ISP, or any future ones, should you persist in this obnoxious hobby of yours. As to US griefers, *shrug* we'll see. Smacking down tools like you is unlikely to be high priority for a federal prosecutor, but who knows? That's an awful lot of 10 year sentences piled up, and I worked on more minor cases that this during my internship with them (a gentleman caught driving drunk in a national park comes to mind).

Speaking of linking threads, I don't have any problem with you linking your ISP to this thread. In fact, I plan to as well, since you admit to griefing over 20 servers on it.

Cheers. :)

Yes, because clearly I would post my actual employer on a shared team account named after my bioware account. I mean, how else am I going to give smacktards access to my personal c.v., so they can attempt to harass me via my employer when I call them out for their juvenile antics? Maybe I should post some naked pics and a home address on it too, for good measure. Funny, the server admins said you were the bright one in the bunch. :P

In all honesty, you've confused me with someone else. I haven't targetted your server, and I am pretty sure that none of the NWN Greifers have. I hadn't even heard of Higher Ground, and it seems to be in Action. We only hit Role Play, PW Story and Social. Also, it seems that you didn't start posting in this thread until the 3nd June. I genuinely have no idea what you're talking about.

All of my keys still work too, and all of them are legit. KeyGens don't work online. Bioware hasn't banned any of my keys. It would be in my interests to pretend that Bioware is somehow working to stop me but, honestly, they're not. Nor would they have any reason to.

Feel free to believe what you want though - I'm sure you'll come up with something wacky. Truth is, I won't be around much (on NWN) during the summer anyway. That's kinda why I came to post here - giving the NWN community a final hurrah, of sorts. Sona is right anyway - I'm too smart for this shiz.

I might have another prolific period on NWN. I might not. Who knows? Anyway, peace out.

Lolz. It's WAY too late for that. IP logging doesn't lie, not when your ISP is able to compare access times.

I always felt the 'I'm reporting youuuuuuu~' was possibly one of the most immature things I ever see people do on forums. Instead of reporting a post you feel breaks the rules and being done with it, you must publically cry out in an attempt to belittle the previous poster with the threat of their post being reveiwed by a mod.

The same mods, I might add, who have deleted and locked so many of Ehye_khandee's threads for similiar tatics and other disgusting behavour.
