The romance thread is spoiltastic, so a simple question: Can I romance both Isabela and Merrill?

If so, how?

I "switched" from Isabela to Merrill once I realised Merrill is a romance option for a female Hawke as well (that one took my by surprise, just hit the flirt option to see her response...), that work's fine. But both at once, I've no clue.

I think you can, but in the end(spoiler?) only one love interest stays with Hawke. According to Varric.

That's just my guess.

actually you can but you shouldn't have them together in party i tried to romance varric and any time i flirted with anders as a female hawke varric or anders would loose friendship rep after you did the other romance option just dotn do it together with both love interest in a group

That's interesting. I haven't been given the choice to flirt with Isabela or Merrill while the others were around.

Related question: if I progress through Isabela's romance before more Merrill conversations/options even become available, is that going to screw me over? I got to Isabela's "Questioning Beliefs" dialogue before in Act II before I even had a chance to flirt with Merrill at all... I got paranoid and worried, so I went back to an earlier save.

No, that should work. You can romance Isabela and then Merrill. If you get a romance scene with Merrill first... then you missed your chance with Izzy.

I'm so tempted to do that with Merrill. She kind of won my heart after I recruited her. She's so cute. Cute enough to be a blood mage. lol She's so gonna hook up with my Mr. Hawke~

I want to point out that you called me a **** for suggesting that I'd want to pursue both. That makes you a double ****.

That is entirely unfair. The circumstances are all... different... and stuff.

I called you a **** for suggesting that you'd pursue both at the same time. I'm just having fun while my true love gets her stick out of the mud.

[EDIT] And it's not like I was planning it. Isabela's wiles overcame me. I couldn't resist.

I romanced Isabela first and after like 3 or 4 post-coital flirt lines I ended the romance... she was just so resistant. I felt like I was trying convince myself that this could work, not so much Isabela. Then after several quests I was able to start up with Merrill. And while I was expecting a catfight via banter, instead Isabela seemed surprised then pleased. Then I got "the talk" from Isabela followed by my Hawkes' testicles got threatened. I has a scared.

It seemed to work for me to do both. Romanced Isabella, picked up Merrill and started romancing her, got the Isabella cutscene, got Merrill to move in with me, wound up having some interesting dialog results after that (they both seemed aware of each others' romances, and were both fine with the situation). I think there were even a few dialogs while exploring (I kept both in the party all the time that I was able to) where they seemed to be discussing their mutual romances amicably.

The end had Merrill do the kiss before the last boss (and get the achievement), but Isabella stayed with the Champion in the epilogue.

It's a bug. If you don't understand what's happening (took me a few seconds and then I ) that's great. Continue playing as normal.

I had the exact same thing happen. Kissed Merrill forging our sweet romance. Then the epilogue said I took off with Isabela. I remember discussing that in the Hanged Man but Izzy insisted that I bring Merrill with. So maybe Fen, Andy, and Aveline went on their merry ways but I'm pretty we're pirating up with Isabela.

Merrill: Hawke bought me a parrot! Now I am a real pirate!
Isabela: Great, but - why does the parrot have an eyepatch?
Merrill: Hawke said it'd make 'im look extra piratey.
Isabela: *sigh* Well thats just - of all the - you know what, nevermind. At least Hawke has a great ****.
Merrill: Oh my.
Hawke: So what's the word on deck?
Parrot: Great ****!
Hawke: Isabela!
Isabela: What?
Merrill: Well, it is true.

I got this problem, too, if you replace Merrill with Anders.

Epilogue is bugged, it goes off first person you flirted with in the game, because when I ended, it was Merrill, I flirted with no one else, till like Act 2 or 3, with Fenris(How is teaching him to read, flirting? -facepalm-)
