I really liked DA:O and i liked too DA2, both are the best games I have ever played, the only thing that would be better on DA2 is the exploration.... But the game was amazing

I agree with you, but there are lots of mooks on this forum who disagree. Equip your flame-retardant jacket.

How about those times where you are in a dialogue cutscene type thing (as in not in combat or in exploration mode) and your character says something that you didn't choose for them to say?

The auto-lines and the horrible paraphrasing were elements of Dragon Age II that I really disliked. It's suppose to be part of Dragon Age III as well.

I'm interested on the success of DA2. I'm assuming its good because its multiplatform but by how much so far? Is it overshadowing origins?

        Personal RPG rant

As a WoW player (don't get turned off by that just yet), i came into DA Origins instantly noticing similar interface structure, lackluster crafting, and clunky combat. Dragon age Origins gave me something other games couldn't provide and that was a great story, interesting and realistic companions that you could personally effect their attitude and outlook on life by hardening them by dialogue or personal quests. It was a breath of fresh air, (something WoW couldn't ever provide) and something different that i have never experienced. Portal (yes ****ing robots) and Dragonage Origins really knew how to bring their characters to life. I cared about characters other then my own, and i'd get the feeling they cared about me and my actions or strongly disagree with me.

After WoW, Fallout New Vegas became the next hit in October. I loved the dialogue and the different ways i could handle quests and situations. Ways that wern't obvious. The dialogue in Fallout New Vegas and Origins made me feel like customizing my character was never over. Everything i did, and what i thought my character would handle a situation, was done to give me a feeling of personalized realism that other games couldn't provide.

Going from all that, to the DA2 demo. I disaproved of the dialogue-wheel system. I could not customize what i wanted to say. I could not see my tone of voice complicating a situation enough except for making a NPC irritated by my sarcasm or make me feel like my character was being a tough guy. Choosing different types of the tone-dialogue- wheel made me feel detatched if i drifted away from the same dialogue option selected(especially if it was the same conversation). I didn't like it. Going from Origins/Fallout new vegas to this game, i believe, would not work for me so i did not buy it even though i loved Origins for its stronger RPG elements.

Playing the demo, it constantly threw enemies at me who looked exactly the same. In Fallout New Vegas, every enemy seemed to have a story, a different look or personality. If the enemy in games arn't interesting enough and feel extremly weak it turns me off on that game. I can understand some people will like being batman and killing all the bad guys who have the exact same badguy costume and no personality what so ever but there are other ways you can make me feel more like a badass then chucking the same guy at me over and over. Maybe it was decided to do this because of how smooth the combat was, i don't know, but i feel that chucking a million enemies at me who looked exactly the same was a really low budget,  uncreative, old-fashioned, and uninspiring way to go.

I know it was only the DA2 demo (which is what made me cancel my preorder because of the dialogue wheel and the qaulity of my enemies) but from what i'm hearing about the game the demo pretty much wrapped up on what i assumed the game would be. I did not know the game would be copy pasted areas and that to me is even more disapointing. I do not mind a linear game at all, but when its the same area over and over...If someone asked me whats the worst thing a Linear game could do to turn me off it would be that.

I feel like you guys (Bioware) know how to make a good RPG and if you read this your probably thinking duh, duh, no ****, so why don't you make one? If you guys are as good as baulders gate and are as good as what people used to say, then why be afraid of failure? You don't need to rely on reviews and hide a 8.5 review given by IGN, or sequels from decent games that everyone will assume will be better then the first. Unless your game is bad that is. Stop making bad games.  EA didn't make the bad game, you did. I'm sure this game was a sucess and i know many people like it for what it is--or what it could have been, but your DLC qaulity and your game qaulity continue to slip it will eventually impact your future games as well as your reputation as a good game developer.

Agreed about New Vegas. That was one hell of a game and an even better RPG.That said, DA2 is still a great game. it's just not as great as Origins. But it's still worth playing. It's fun almost all the way through in my opinion. Just think of it as a side adventure rather than a sequal to Origins. Helps.

3.2 million copies of DAO
1.9 million copies of DA2 for PC alone
1.8 million copies of ME.
1million plus for ME2  on the PC release only. Don't know for the Xbox and so on.
2.1 million for ME3 and counting....

Baldur's Gate 5 million
BG 2 over 2 million not counting addons and fan made mods. over 5000 differnt mods listed so far.
Planetscape Torment over 2 million copies sold. (Black Isle Studios)

NWN sold 2 million with over 4000 mods listed in the NWN vault at one time.
NWN2 did almost as well. (Obsidion)

For video games the vast majority of Bioware games have done extremely well.

Wow, these numbers are so out of whack.  Whoever you got those from made them up.  Totally fabricated them from  the back end of their imagination.

First off, Planescape: Torment,   did NOT sell 2 million.  Not even close.  It sold about 400,000.   It was a well known financial Dud for Black Isle

BG1 did not sell 5 million.  Try about 1.5 million

And there was a hell of a lot more than 4000 NWN mods in the vault during the game's peak.   The number is closer to   ten times that much.

And lastly, your punchline there.  DA2 did NOT sell 1.9 million on PC alone.  In fact, the last we heard from EA puts DA2 at about 2 million units shipped for all 3 platforms combined.

Yrkoon,

X-Box lifetime sales 2,071,483

PS3 Total Lifetime sales 1,181,919

according to http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales as of 2012.

That's over 3.2 million alone without counting PC sales, which is more than the number shown on Bioware's site. Bioware reports just over 2 million on all three formats.

VGT says PC sales on the DA series at last count were 1,987,451, including Steam downloads. Another site reports 830,000. Which if any is correct?

Your PS:T number matches a post from March of 2000, 3 months after the game release. The game has been released twice and is being considered for a third by GOG. One of the 9.99 title things.....and a fan site reported the total lifetime copies sold of over 2 million.

But sites have been known to fictionalize numbers before so it never hurts to check....

It really does not matter, and I do not care whether you agree or not... I have also noticed the wide disparity in numbers between sites and as to which to believe..?.. take your pick. I take them all with a grain of salt.

The point is that many of the games are replayable, and many have fan made mods available......

Cultist - LOL. Touche.

Your link does not list ANY of these numbers for DA2.
