So I'm in the middle of my third playthrough of Dragon Age 2 and I decided to try out a Hawke that is a more staunchly pro-templar one and support Meredith in the Hightown square in Act 3. I noticed that Meredith already seemed to appreciate my support even before I finished the conversation. I thought that was kind of cool but I honestly don't remember what exactly I could have said to trigger than dialogue.

"The Champion is proven to be Kirkwall's staunchest defenders. I doubt he will appreciate sedition."

The other two times she said "Do not hide behind the Champion."

Hawke must have said something that counted pro-templar before this but I've been trying to remember what. Was it sending Grace and Alain back to the Circle?

I have heard her said both things, but I'm not sure what triggers it. My Hawkes are usually more pro-circle than pro-templars(but I try to avoid extremes to either side), I have never sent Grace to the Circle, I let Varric handle it, and I have never forced Feynril to the Circle either. But I think I only got the "Do not hide behind the Champion" comment in my Anders-romance play through so maybe I was a little bit more pro-circle then, but none of the choices was very different from my other playthroughs. In all other I got the "The Champion is proven" comment

I always figured Meredith was drunk with power, which is why I sided with the Mages. Then of course Orsino loses it. Then I meet Meredith outside and she's even crazier.

I mean what is it with Kirkwall and crazies? Is there something in the water?

The Legacy dlc hints at a possible reason why there are so many crazies in Kirkwall.

Well... At least I wasn't the one who necro'd the thread **whew** ;)

I actually got that with a pro-mage apostate dipolamtic Hawke.  (That's a lot to type!)  I think it depends on your dialogue choices when you're talking w/ Meridith and Orsino before you get to the keep.  I agreed to help Meridith when she saved me, then when she and O were arguing I picked the "We shouldn't kill each other figuring out who leads!" thing.  Then I sided with O when he said we needed a distraction.  That gave me "Champion is proven."  When I played with pro-mage rouge snarky Hawke, I agreed to help, told them both to shove it cause I was leading, then agreed to storm the outside of the keep and I got "Don't hide behind the Champion."  Don't know if that helps any, but there you go.  ^_^

Hmm, I was planning on making Meredith the leader in the battle to retake the keep, but I ended up being the leader because I told them to stop arguing. Maybe it's related to Hawke's personality? The one Hawke I got it on was an aggressive Hawke going into that conversation. No. What about Hawke's class? I've only got it on a mage Hawke.

I know this is pretty old now, but I gotta say, I was really captivated by Meredith's character, and it really crushed me when I killed her in the end...I sided with the templars mainly because I didn't want to see Meredith die, and it was a complete punch in the face when she did...maybe the statue of her in Kirkwall will break open one day and she will be back to her old self - without the sword of course! :P
