Apologies if this isn't the appropriate place to post this, or if it's been discussed before -- I'm trying to avoid reading the other topics here out of fear of being spoiled.

I'm coming across a bug in the third act where Merrill's quest-wrapping dialogue occurs before I've actually received the quest itself. Apart from the obvious annoyance of the game spoiling itself, I have a question for anyone else who may have encountered this problem:
Will the quest still appear or does the game assume it's already completed?

Please don't over-answer the question, just tell me one way or the other or point me to the proper thread where this is already being discussed. Thank you.

As an aside, I can't believe a bug this major got past Bioware QA. Very dissappointed.

You know, I think the same thing happened to me. Merrill was weeping in front of the mirror in Act 3, and I wasn't sure why and assumed things happened during the jump in years; but after completing her quest (which you can still do), that information certainly seems to gel more with her reaction. Further, there was never *any* discussion with her after the events in the cave.

In short, yeah, pretty sure it happened to me too.

Anyone know if this bugs out at the end of the game though? I've not heard a positive yes or no. If it does, and we use the debug console command for Merrill can we just flag her to romance completed or do we select committed? Really don't want to go through the last 2 quest to finish the game only to find out I can't complete her romance because of a dumb bug that should have been found pretty easy in testing the game out before release.

I didn't get the "Friend or Foe" quest either and just decided to keep playing and in the end I still got her.

This JUST happened to me, and its my second playthrough. What happens then, if you take her to the mountain and do her A new Path quest, she is STUCK In your party for the rest of the game. She is locked in and there's no way to end it. So I hope you did Zevran's quest before you talked to her, because she's auto locked whenever you enter the mountain now.

Ohhhhhhh now it makes sense. I was completely thrown off and didn't even realize this was a mistake. No wonder that all seemed so odd. Good to know!

What version of the game are you playing? This bug sounds a lot more dire than I originally thought.

And without getting into story details, can you complete Merrill's romance or not?

I was very confused about that too. The fact that there was absolutely no wrap up dialoge after the cave with Merethari kind of made me mad. Merrill doesn't even mention it again after that...

So anyone had luck to avoid Merril being stuck in the party after her quest? Or will she be there until reloading and trying another approach?

When confonting her Clan after the fight I chose the peaceful option without slaughtering everyone. Now she can not be replaced in the team and I can not go back to te mountain top to check the demon's chamber again.

I chose the peaceful option and had to slaughter her tribe, after that she remained stuck with no way of completing, the quest disappeared and she remained locked. Everyone kept telling me to reload except for the fact my last save was 2hrs ago. HELL NO! So, I finally figured it out. I went to my Hawke estate and selected Gather your Party and she was removed! That didn't work in any other part of town

My gf couldn't kill anyone, their health wasn't dropping. she reloaded and her quest came out fine.

Yeah this has been mentioned in the official thread for act 3 bugs. It did upset me a little to be honest. It's kind of a huge bug and a spoiler at that. Though it didn't really occur to me until I completed her companion quest and she never had a wrap up dialoge...

Reguardless I hope Bioware takes care of this bug ASAP. It's really a bugger I say.

Im having the same problem as everyone else here. I was really suprised and confused when i walked in on her crying about how she had lost "her" (without any indication on who "She" was)

Then after completing her quest there was no talking about it. i didnt even put 2 and 2 together till i read this thread>.>.

Edit: i forgot to put in that i encountered another bug where at some point in act 2 the mirror dissapears (shortly after it appeared)  yet everyone acts like its still in the corner(really annoying)

I experienced this as well....I talked to her again after giving her a gift, I was confused to say the least until looked her up on the DA wiki. I hope it doesn't negatively affect anything else in the game.

I hope they patch this with an update....I'm actually suprised there hasn't been an update for the Xbox version, a lot of the new games I've played have had an update when first playing or soon after release.

Here's the fix by the way.

Complete A Talking To and On the Loose.

Go to Merril's home, you can have the broken dialog and when she's without a quest run the console command option.

runscript zz_mrl_debug
Select Main Quest
Act 3
And then select 1 - Start Merrill Notify.

It should add the quest "A New Path." Also teleporting you to High Town when it does.

You can now commence the quest as normal. :)

This only works on the PC, obviously.

Just had this too. Played the final dialogue the first time I entered her house in Act III. Still got the quest, completed it, but then nothing :-(

Ooooh now it makes sense... In my game Merrill shattered the eluvian before even going to confront the demon. There was a pretty funny cutscene where she talks about trying to fix the mirror while standing in front of the empty frame. I thought she had gone nuts.

Yeah, funny thing in the end Merrill wasn't even mentioned as my love interest, but Isabella was instead?!
Lads..., game's a bit bugy, yeah?

Buggy, I think, is an understatement....admittedly, some of the bugs aren't that bad, but some shatter continuity (from import) and some just break the game....I expected better from Bioware.
