Best mid-game build for Isabela involves no skill in DW Tree?

Shocking? Anyway ,that's my thought after she got owned time and time again and also after her 2nd respec.
Now i think i got a build for her that is at least functional.
First off, attributes: High DEX high CUN, medium CON and low STA
I get mostly passive or sustained abilities (as well as items) as I can for her that increases speed (SPEED), damage (BLINDSIDE), attack, defense and critical chance/dmg (TWIST THE KNIFE & the 2 passive abilities EXPERIENCE HAND & SEA LEGS at the end of her Swashbuckler tree).
For the rest of her abilities I got low threat /evasion skills such as TACTICAL WITHDRAWAL (EVADE upgrade), SUBTLETY & BACK TO BACK (teleport away to any ally)
At level 12, i got her CRIT to 48% chance and 182% damage. DPS is 111. Defense is 40% vs normal enemies. With SPEED activated, she can be very very lethal. 1 major problem though: less combo potential with her in the squad.
Later in the game, I plan to get FOLLOW THROUGH, BACKSTAB & EXPLOSIVE STRIKE with more points into stamina.
Thoughts?

The reason I avoided Speed was because it requires too much of a talent investment to really shine, on top of a large 20% reserved stamina. I'd rather just burn stuff quicker with talents like Twin Strike, Backstab, and All Hands on Deck. Your choice of Follow Through looks good and is definitely on the to-buy list (currently level 13).

You mentioned the threat reduction and teleporting abilites. Have these been the solution to her getting "owned time and time again" for you? An alternative way which is actually less talent-point and micro intensive is the buff up her Defense, and use Savvy tactically. Combined with the phenomenal Sea Legs talent you can hit 80% defense caps pretty easily. With that much avoidance, aggro becomes less of a concern, and you can plow more points into direct damage skills.

You have a good point. How early did you get the 80% defense? At 40%, I still cannot leave her on her own (on Har without her dying within a minute. What exactly does Savvy do by the way? I'm guessing it has to do with invisible/stealth enemies but how effective is it? Can it prevent backstabs from shadow assassins?

Left her behind at level 11 for Deep Roads. Got back at 13, she found her Sea Legs and that was that. Heroic Aura adds 8% Defense to the party (along with other godly bonuses), and she has two pieces of +Defense gear, though that might be a little redundant now.

Savvy is a great skill. For every enemy within 10m of Isabella, she gets +10% Defense percentage tacked on. The Defense percentage on the stat page is against normal mobs, but further Defense boosts can let you cap out against stronger foes. This is on Nightmare.

Her specialization though is great for her survivability, also comes with a lot of +crit stuff.
-edit-
Side note on Defense, bosses cut into it at -30% directly, so its never really redundant unless your past 130% in total for her (yeah it can technically go that high to make a cushion spot for elite/bosses). And I plan to give her as much +defense based stuff as I can just to try and avoid the random base attack ganking she tends to incure due to how close she is in the action.
