That was such a dick move.

Also, who did you side with? I ended up siding with the Templars. Both sides are ****ed but I liked Meredith's character. On top of that, Anders really ****ed the mages. Order did need to be kept, so imo siding with the Templars was a ****ty choice, but the best one.

I romanced Anders with my male hawke rogue, so I didn't have the heart to kill him (especially from a RP perspective). In fact I stayed with him, partly because I guess I'm a sucker for torment, but to try and potentially keep him somewhat sane and not do this again. I sided with the mages, btw.

But, after reading through the forums, you will find a lot of people killed him.

hell yes,

I considered giving him mercy, and telling him to leave and not come back, but Sebastian said if i did he'd raise an army and burn the city to the ground so i said "**** it, Anders u didn't deserve to live any way"

Yes.

It pained me to do so, since he was one of my favorites, but Sebastian is also my favorite character. I was also pretty appalled that he decided to destroy a place full of innocent people just to incite even more chaos.

What Merchat said, that AND Alistair telling me to keep the City safe. Also I sided with the Mages in this campaign.

Rolled a Rogue who tried to stay neutral. When push came to shove I sided with the Templars since when I roll a Mage I'll obviously go the opposite route. Tried to get Anders to atone for what he did but no dice. I was going to let him go but Sebastian got annoyed and figured I could either lose one companion or two; chose the former since Sebastian threatened to bring down the full might of Starkhaven and I wasn't friendly (or rivalry-ish) with Isabella in order to get her to return.

Very tough choice and great writing on Bioware's part.

I did...twice. I liked Anders, but my word, that was a dumb thing he did...surprised me though. I didn't expect that at all. [Before anyone asks how I did it twice, I reloaded a save before the last quest, and sided with the Templers out of curiosity. Plus, it was a lot easier killing just one group, than both the Mages and Templers on my way to the Gallows. <.< [And yes, I'm doing an actual second playthrough now...lol ]

Despite being a mage I sided with the Templars if for no reason other than I wanted to be Viscount. I didn't regret the decision at all: despite being anti-religion (both the Chantry and the Qun) I came to the conclusion that it is better to keep order as Viscount and a new, more thorough Circle than have the city run rampant with abominations.

Besides, how can Hawke be the most important person in Thedas without a title?
Warden: I am the Warden-Commander, 2nd in line to the Teyrnir of Highever, Teyrn of Gwaren, and Arl of Amaranthine.
Alistair: I am a senior Grey Warden, King of Ferelden
Hawke: Err... I'm the Champion of Kirkwall :)

I was a mage and sided with the Templars, which is kind of weird. But like I said in the OP, best choice out of a ****ty situation.

No.

I kept Anders alive, and ran away with him. Was a mage, sided with mages. The time for negotiations was over. The Chantry promoted slavery in the form of locking up mages because of what they /could/ do. You can't charge someone with a crime before they commit it. And Tranquils? Zomg. Crime against nature much? I liked the leader woman from the Chantry (forget her name, forgive me), but she was an enabler of this situation. A situation that should never have been tolerated to begin with.

Judge me if you will, but I'm sticking to it.

I completely agree with you but it was so hard knowing that he killed a bunch of innocents for something that didn't seem like it help the mages to begin with. I was already kind of pissed at him for not telling me what he was doing an lying about getting Justice out of him and making me an enabler. It was actually a tough call for me to take him back. I loved him but at the same time, it wasn't really well thought out. But then again, it seems like it could have possibly been his plan the entire time he was in Kirkwall. It was such a memorable moment, realizing that he wasn't as two-dimensional as he had seemed, realizing that people weren't going to act the way you wanted them to, just because they were your friends. Act 3 in general was just awesome. All of my companions just blew my mind with their behavior.

I hated him after doing that awful thing! Even so I saw value in him (plus he is my healer) and I understood that what he did WAS a good move. He took matters into his own hands and knew that mages were like pets to the templars. I look at him as the real Champion, because of what he did all the circles are now rebelling and wanting freedom. Sure the way he did things was MAD, but right non the less (in my point of view anyways) I always wanted to have the mages be as free as all other people in Thedas since DA:O so I believe in my Anders :3

No. What he did is done, no way to change that and the war would have broke out sooner or later. You can hear passion in his voice one of the most vocal people in the group about templars and I needed him to help me.

Anders was one of my best friends and a party main stay thanks to the panacea section of his personal skill tree. I admit was a bit speechless when he did what he did, but was going to let him go until Sebastian threatened to invade Kirkwall if I did so. It was then that I thought to myself that Anders had caused enough trouble and I was not going to let more people die.

In the end it was a tough decision that messed up my party pretty badly ... which was already at half strength thanks to some poor foresight causing Issy to cut and run, Carver to be inducted, and I never recruited Fenris because coincidentally his was the last quest I had to do in act 1 and by that point I was sick of doing sidequest. ... he's kind of like Leliana in that regard.

I didn't really like him. I sided with the Circle, and was a mage myself. That doesn't change the fact that he totally screwed the situation up and put the blame on the shoulders of innocents. Knife goes into the back.

Also, something about his character just rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't like him in Awakening, and liked him even less in 2.

I totally believe he isn't dead! I mean look at him! His eyes remain open and full of life, I think Justice took him over and faked it all.

I had to kill Anders for what he did. I sided with mages because my sister shows how a mages can be.

From an RP standpoint, I kept him alive. Hawke was betrayed, he still loved Anders too much to kill him. I also let him stick around and told Sebastian to bring it. Although I felt what he did was completely heinous it DID what he wanted, which was to break the Circles so at least it wasn't pointless.

I had to kill Anders after what he did. No matter what i felt, i just had to. There is no excuse to the death of so many innocent people. Sided with Templars, and after Orsino said that he knew about white-lily killer, i suppose it will be kinda veeeeeeeeery hard to side with mages after that.

I sided with the mages because my sister (in the game) was a mage and I felt there was being pushed too far.

I kept him alive, and sided with the mages, and I'm going to be doing it again. But I play my Hawke as someone who starts falling apart throughout the game, and at the end, all she has left is the man who promised to drown them in blood to save her (appealing to the unhinged, I think) and the desire to remain free. I'd be more hesitant if I knew I could free Kirkwall from insane templar rule, but when push comes to shove, the three people she cared about most sided with her and they ran with it.

I didn't kill him, but really wanted a 'You will help atone for this travesty by defending the mages... and then you will be put on trial for your crimes.' option. ;)

Of course I killed that traitor, he murdered the Grand Cleric! I never like Anders, I wish I could have killed him in Awakening. I stood by the Templars, ironically, being a mage myself. I spared the two mages that begged for mercy, and enjoyed every second of finally getting to rip Meredith apart at the end. I don't regret helping the Templars, half of the mages I fought were blood mages. Orsino should never have turned to blood mages, which locked my decision, even if it were a last-minute decision. Needless to say, I am not a blood mage, and I don't like them.

Originally I was a Pro-Templar selfish anti-hero biatch of a Mage out to save my skin. After Anders destroyed the chantry, I did a 180 and went Pro-Mage True Champion of Ferelden saving the little people. Totally switched my character.

In the end, killing him would have made Anders a martyr in the eyes of oppressed mages who were watching Kirkwall with anticipation. I wasn't about to make the Derpasaurus into another Andraste.
