i sided with the mages, i first told anders to go but when i got to the gallows he was there, i thought i would prob need healing so when i talked to him again i told him to stick around.. im going to play a non mage char and side with the templers. I was kindof dissappointed with the mages.. I stead up for them and they go on and use freaking blood magic.
Bethany didn't and that alone tells me I made the right decision.

It kinda pissed me off when I had to tell anders to leave....again before the grand enchanter fight.
I can't see being pro-templar. I may do it once for the achievement, but then delete the save. Meredith gives the order for genocide and they start carrying it out......
There are at least 10 occasions in the game that should dispell any notion of the templars as noble or well-intentioned. Magic gets out of hand when mages turn to blood magic and begin hurting others. At that point though, they have self-identified and can be dealt with.
Mages are born/created as they are. I don't think that the Chantry has a very firm grasp on what that says about the Maker.

I like Sebatian a lot, but Anders has always been a favorite in Awakenings.
It was a real dick move, and I am thinking that my actual Hawke will side with the templars since they seem to be the only ones who really enmasse keep their crap straight. Most of the mages in the end went all crazy and I questioned what it was all for.
But I wanted that damned trophy...

And Orsino knew about white-lily killer. You could not save Leandra because of him and his lie.
Just reloaded and sided with mages, just to compare both endings. And first thought - "FFFFFUUUUUUUU, they copypasted not only all locations, but all final fights too". Same random fights, same bosses fights. I sided with mages - why they atack me? Why Orsino had to used this trasformation and moreover, why he had to atack me, though i was protecting him? I cannot find logic in that, so my choice is Templar' side. And between let Anders go, and punish him for his crime i can choose only one decision - death sentence.

However as the game progressed, he grew more and more annoying. He Complained at every opportunity about the inequalities of mages. Look I get it, you don't like the Templars. Can we just talk about the weather?
Whenever I had Merrill and Anders in the same party, he seemed to spend every possible moment pointing out how terrible a person she is. Part of the reason I let her do what she wanted with the mirror was in a hope that she would be right and Anders would be wrong. Or at least I could fix things in the end. Well that didn't happen. Keeper got possessed, and we ended up slaughtering the entire Dalish camp down the last man, woman and child. Of course this made Anders get on his Soapbox and **** even more. (woops)
He also tried flirting with me at one point which was kind of weird. Sorry buddy, I don't swing that way. (-15 rivalry)
The worst of it all, was that I kept him in my group and stuck with him to the end simply because I needed a good healer. After blowing up the chantry, the **** got off scott-free because I needed him for the final leg of the game.

And I also liked the Grand Cleric, she was pretty cool, so that made it even easier. Sided with the Mages btw, Meredith was seriously screwed up

I was going to play through again and not let him do that, see if there was a massively different ending. But I have yet to find anyone whose playthrough didn't include Anders being a ****.

Out of curiosity... If you decide not to aide him in his quest to set that stuff in the Chantry, does he blow it up anyway?

Its the major final catalyst for the rebellion /templar massacre I think he just leaves the party and does it anyways.

Why the hell didn't Merrill get the Creation tree? Why does healing in this game have to be so underpowered and potions on such a long cooldown?
Ugh what a mess. I've never been so conflicted over a game. I want to like DA2 so much but I can't help but find glaring flaws.

My personal view? I frankly have NO IDEA how to feel about mages vs. templars, but I do think that what Anders did was wrong. That was terrorism, plain and simple. Elthina was the only person in Kirkwall who undebatably deserved to survive to the end. She was kind, generous, and reasonable. And she knew that there was a chance she'd die, but she stayed in the Chantry anyway, even when Leliana offered her an easy way out, because she wouldn't leave the people and she wouldn't let the cauldron boil over.
She was such a good person that Anders HAD to kill her to get the holy war he wanted. I thought Anders was an AMAZINGLY well written character and I absolutely loved him ... but he deserved to die for what he did. He bombed a civilian target. That's that.
