That was such a dick move.

Also, who did you side with? I ended up siding with the Templars. Both sides are ****ed but I liked Meredith's character. On top of that, Anders really ****ed the mages. Order did need to be kept, so imo siding with the Templars was a ****ty choice, but the best one.

I let him live first, then Sebastion left me and Anders attacked me later in the mage tower...

First playthrough: yes. I was pro templar. even killed Bethany.
Second playthrough: No I didn't. I kind of wished I had because my warrior went into the Reaver class and I couldn't even use the ability to deal X2+ damage for every health I lose. Was pro mage. Didn't do the JUSTICE mission. I found the Chantry explodeing still BS. Occording to Leliana there were cells but to me still Anders was the bottom line cause if you do the JUSTICE mission since he makes a bomb useing the materials you gain and are oblivious to know.
Third playthrough: yes. Funny thing is I was A MAGE who was PRO TEMPLAR. lol. I felt bad for treating Merril like crap. However I do agree with someones post that even when Merril destroys the mirror you still get the mission where Merril still wants to fix it after you convinced her to move on. Makes no sense.

i always kill anders no matter what character i play!  to me what he just did was something i can't forgive or look away then pretend nothing happened.  Sebastian was one of my favorite characters and you could see his pain when the  chantry gets blown away by him.  the woman who was like a mother figure to him is murdered and not just that but anders uses me and lie to me .   so there is no other way to solve this issue than killing him with my own hands.

I wish there was a "hug Anders" option.

I loved anders in DA:A and Justice for that matter while I don't think this is jennifer hepler's fault, Anders is probably the most annoying character in DA2, I blame the voice actor.
Or maybe I am just not a fan of Hepler's writing because I wasn't really a fan of Sebastian either.

I know, right?  If I swung that way I'd make sure he didn' have to wait for the templars' surrender to get his happy ending.

I wanna know why the Anders haters get an option to murderknife him, but we Chantry haters don't get an option to murderknife that spoiled, arrogant, hypocritical troglodyte threatening to destroy all of Kirkwall.  After he did that, I wished Elthina was still alive...  because I wanted to go wrist slitty, blood slave that royal bastard, and make him kill her.  Truly, I hate Sebastian.

Hmm. I thought the voice acting was an improvement
And he's by far the character that evokes most of my sympathy and liking, though he could have used just a little more of his old wit (especially around Varric), it shouldn't be all gone...

The short Anders/Justice story, now, I didn't really like, it's not my kind of style - too 'flat'.

That said, it's strange to be perceived as a terrorist simply for liking Anders and wanting him to live. Next thing you know someone wants those who do not like Sebastian to be burned as heretics and all those who do not follow the Qun to be shipped off to work in a Bioware mine

Hey, as long as your ****s don't touch each other, it's not gay.

Aaaaaaaand now I'm imagining what Dragon Age 2 would be like if the dialogue wheel had a "hand job" option. It's pretty epic.

Let's hope a DLC or an expansion will give us a chance to murderknife that bastard. Though I like blood slave thing too!

The only regret I have is not being able to tell him, right before I kill him, that now I will personally make sure they make every mage in the Free Marches Tranquil because of him...
Not because I would want to do it or even that I would side with the Templars, just to have him die feeling terrible

That does make me wonder, if Sebastian could try to take over Starkhaven from the ruling regime because its King is weak, couldn't the Champion attempt to accomplish the same thing?

Because he doesn't blow up a building full of people? You can't just go around randomly murdering people.

My Templar-supporting mage absolutely wigged and likely the cutscene didn't do his freak-out murder-kill justice. He'd been waiting to smack that down since he first learned Anders was an abomination.

So far, the rest of my Hawkes have found reason to spare him, though I imagine my devil-may-care life-is-a-temporary-state-of-being Hawke may just stab him because she thinks blood is a pretty color.

I save him every time. The only time I didn't run away with him was during my Templar playthrough (loved him, but he tried to kill me) and when I managed to romance Fenris instead of Anders that one time.

General historical knowledge?

I doubt that many countries had as much commoner sympathy for mages as Kirkwall, to the point of actively assisting them against Templars. You probably had a few everywhere, but doubtful in high numbers.

But yea, I don't know perse. But seeing how Andrastrianism is still strong, I doubt most people would sympathize with the mages, especially not now.

Why? Because *one* of them was a terrorist?

Though yes neither of us know for sure. I guess we'll have to wait for DA3.

I always let him live. I just wish he had told me, as I would have supported it. Hell, I would have planted the lyrium poo bomb myself.

I find the Chantry to be far more of an oppressive force than a protective one and shed no tears when Kirkwall's temple was obliterated (I actually cheered when I first saw it happen).

Please note, for those who may interpret my thoughts on this the wrong way, this is how I feel about the Chantry in the Dragon Age video games. This DOES NOT translate in to real life in any way, shape, or form.

Out of curiosity... If you decide not to aide him in his quest to set that stuff in the Chantry, does he blow it up anyway?

I was going to play through again and not let him do that, see if there was a massively different ending. But I have yet to find anyone whose playthrough didn't include Anders being a ****.

Out of curiosity, I did the first part of the quest (finding the ingredients), but did not return to him to be given the "distract the Cleric" part of it, and yes he did it also.  Knowing Bioware as I do, I suspect that even if I did not help him fetch the sela petrae and dragonbone he would likely find it himself.

I was romancing both him and Fenris (just because I could, OK?), and if memory serves by that time Fenris had jilted me after one night of passion - the emo freakazoid could not deal with being happy apparently for the first time in his life, but that is another story.

Incidentally, details like this only reinforce what has been said about the DA story-lines, cannot rave enough about the obvious care and detail that has gone into the stories in all of their DA games.

Yeah he always does no matter what you do. The first time I saw that scene I told him I'd help but hadn't gotten around to it yet, so he not only gets the ingredients by himself he manages to do so in the nick of time as well.

I guess, but you were already sent on a mission to kill or stop him. Hawke just fulfilled the original objectives.
