Out of curiosity... If you decide not to aide him in his quest to set that stuff in the Chantry, does he blow it up anyway?
I was going to play through again and not let him do that, see if there was a massively different ending. But I have yet to find anyone whose playthrough didn't include Anders being a ****.
Out of curiosity, I did the first part of the quest (finding the ingredients), but did not return to him to be given the "distract the Cleric" part of it, and yes he did it also. Knowing Bioware as I do, I suspect that even if I did not help him fetch the sela petrae and dragonbone he would likely find it himself.
I was romancing both him and Fenris (just because I could, OK?), and if memory serves by that time Fenris had jilted me after one night of passion - the emo freakazoid could not deal with being happy apparently for the first time in his life, but that is another story.
Incidentally, details like this only reinforce what has been said about the DA story-lines, cannot rave enough about the obvious care and detail that has gone into the stories in all of their DA games.
