Siding with the Templers is good...then you wouldn't have to bother fighting both them and the Mages; since the Mages become...stupid. BUT...if you're one of those people who do it for the achievements...save before you go to the Gallows to start the last quest, go all the way through with whichever side you choose, finish it, and do it over again. :P

Why should the actions of one mage condemn every mage in Kirkwall? If you're a warrior or a rogue, Bethany is alive and a mage, and Knight-Commander Meredith's edict would qualify her to die as well (unless she's a Grey Warden). Personally, I was an apostate Hawke (so I had to deal with Carver), and I don't think Meredith's edict to murder every man, woman, and child in Kirkwall for the actions of a non-Circle mage was even remotely rational. I saw it as completely insane, and I had no interest in siding with the templars to murder innocent people for the actions of one man. One man who wanted to stop what he saw as the slavery of his people, who can get raped and have their humanity stripped from them, so it's difficult to damn Anders for wanting the emancipation of his people.

I loved the mages and felt they really had a strong point but.... What happened before the final fight just shook me and made me think... Maybe mages are too dangerous. Fenris pushed me a bit and lets face it. You face alot of Blood Mages and abominations... Hell your party has one of each in them...

It's the dicotomy faced in DA2 - to side with the mages or the templars. I got the opposite reaction from the final scene - I thought that the templars were too out of control, and needed to be stopped from slaughtering innocents. Meredith wants to murder every mage in Kirkwall because of the actions of one single person, and I saw no justification for that. I also had Fenris join me when I addressed that the Chantry controlled Circle was slavery.

All the one way or another opinions means Bioware probably got what they intended. A real gray decision, Either is justified, and both will lead to a big downside.

Yep, lots of corruption on both sides. Loaded decision either way.

I was pro-mage the whole game, but so many mages ended up using blood magic and turning into abominations that I got pretty worn out.

Yeah i know that feeling. it is kinda like Bioware trying to tell how stupid the decision made by the players on either side.

Mages. The Templars, while right that mages are dangerous, are attempting to slaughter a Circle (which, mind you, has PLENTY of legitimate mages in its ranks) for the unrelated actions of one apostate. That's nowhere close to justice and it sends the Templars over the edge and makes them full-on heels. It doesn't matter how many mages were blood mages at this point, because that was not the accusation levied against them. Using it as post-facto justification for mass murder is insane.

I have sided with both but more templar. I just finished another and in one of the rooms is circle mages, templars worshipping a desire demon. Confusing much.

At any rate i will have a mage and templar save ready for whatever comes next.

i tried siding with both on seperate playthroughs, but i mostly side with mages, i found it more likely mean as your either a mage yourself or your sister is a mage, i see no reason why i would side with the templars if my sister is an apostate living outside the circle or if my hawke is, so mage siding felt right to me, hawke would want to help his/her own kind not turn on them imho.

After my first playthrough, I think siding with the templars is the correct choice. However, the information to support this is not presented until after you choose a side.

Initially you're given the option to support a zealot that wants an immediate invocation of the right of annulment for an illogical reason and without an investigation, or to support the oppressed and desperate first enchanter that is seemingly innocent. The morally correct choice is to support the innocent first enchanter that begs for investigation process. After you make the decision you learn that BOTH the first enchanter and the knight commander are unfit for their positions. However, it's worse in the first enchanter's case because corruption on his part justifies the right of annulment. First Enchanter Orsino is corrupt and not doing his job. He was knowingly harbouring blood mages including the one the killed your mother. The Kirkwall circle is not as bad as Ferelden's circle was, but an investigation would have shown that there is probably enough corruption that invoking the right of annulment is the best choice. Orsino was an idiot and doomed the circle. Meredith pushing them hard was no excuse.

Well, I personally preferred the Mage ending. Despite the fact that one man sparked a war between Templars and mages, I saw no reason in siding with the Templars other than for the achievement the whole game. For one, their Knight-Commander is insane. Although.... Orsino wasen't too bright at the end either :/

At any rate, to me the story makes more sense when you side with the mages, considering the conversation Varric and the Seeker has at the very ending. Explains why things were said like they were. As for Carver... I never had a problem cuz' he died in the Deep Roads lol.

This thread is a month old already. The OP doesn't need help deciding anymore. Tainan7509 said her Hawke would side with the mages, after all.

Because she's the only person that's ever asked this question...

The templar ending is the only one that makes any shred of sense, especially in regards to Orsino.

I wonder if it makes any sense to resurrect a month old thread when the original poster already said she was siding with the mages.

Side with the mages and release a bunch of Blood Mages and Abominations to kill innocents, or kill the innocents in the Gallows yourself.
