Hi there,

I cannot seem to find this information anywhere online or in the forums. Just wondering if it's possible for bosses to be frozen/brittle and staggered so spells like chain lightning and crushing prison do more damage? Or is this only for regular ememies? ...I just notice that staff attacks barely make boss health bars drop, even spells like stonefish/crushing prison :(

Also, do the 2 huge gravity spells in Force effect bosses at all? I cannot find this info either.

What about Petrify ? It says "all ememies" ?

Thx a lot :crying:

yes, they can be made brittle/staggered. However the duration is greatly reduced. I often had problems lining up a shield bash + chain lightning combo on bosses.

Exactly like in DAO, freeze/brittle duration is modified simply by target rank. Otherwise, unless the creature has immunity, your mage will freeze it if his spellpower is high enough.

Magic effects if bosses can be froze or not? :o I thought it was just not possible at all.

Good to know bosses can be staggered...I just don't notice the words I guess with all hectic stuff happening during an intense fight...wish they would just have symbols over their heads

Honestly, no idea about stagger. Freeze/brittle = yes, possible, just for a shorter duration (down to 20% of the original one). In DAO, a successful physical resistance check vs mage's spellpower was needed to resist Cone of Cold. I believe it is managed the same way now, only cold resistance check is due (I never get frozen by FF Cone of Cold with 100% cold resist).

There are symbols.  The stagger symbol looks like a downward arrow thing, brittle is a spiral, etc.  All of the status effects have symbols over the heads of the enemies that are affected.  I think there is an option to turn them on if they arent appearing in your game

Basically bosses can have the effects on them, though certain abilities can be harder to give it. For instance, 2H warrior passive, 50% on critical hit. That works universally on everything - all you have to do is get a few critical hits. Mage is ultimately more limited but they also can take advantage of a lot of stuff in a rather grand way so I feel that balances out.

Either way the simple answer is yes. Though, while I know what you mean there IN1, DA2 doesn't have spellcraft levels, and majority of things are just static %chances now instead of magic resist vs whatever checks for random chances. Bosses, I believe, cut chances in half, Elites is moer like 3/4ths.

For instance Pummel Strike upgraded, is 100% chance if you stun the target. I've actually gotten a stagger off that before I believe when I couldn't stun them. That or the stun disapeared on the boss almost instantly, and the stagger remained. Not sure the duration on Stagger/Disorient/Brittle is effected all that much as they're outside effects from normal skill durations.

or at least, on nightmare, staggering a boss has always lasted long enough to use any combo I wanted.
