Since the beginning of Act 2 I have noticed my character's combat animations slow down gradually. I have noticed and so my character is progressively getting slower and slower in his battle animations to the point that it takes them roughly 4-5 times the usual amount of time to complete. It has put my character at a major disadvantage in every battle. I tried changing all of my equipment, removing all my equipment, and even re-specing my character with the Black Emporium DLC but nothing helped. I am playing on the Signiture Edition, with The Exiled Prince and Black Emporium DLC installed, and I am on an original model Xbox 360. The only Topics that I have seen concerning this so far are in PC technical help section here:

My character got slow to the point of being a slide show when there was the server disconnection. Had no choice but to ultimately restart my console unfortunately.

I have this problem too. Annoying as hell.Though thankfully it hasn't gotten slower and slower. But still for a rogues attacks to be slower than a warriors attacks....is just crap. Makes the game harder but not in a good way and makes fights boring.

I've had this problem on 360 also with a mage. Didn't notice it until act 3 but it is getting progressively slower so it could have started earlier.

I've heard that haste spells alleviate the problem; have you tried using the increased attack speed talents from the precision tree? Maybe those would help for a rogue to get you back to normal

This happened to me as well, and apparently it's also happened to the PC users quite a bit.

For me it started rather early at the start of 4-year act after i had started the long road for Aveline. My speed slowed down suddenly so much that it was like hawke was walking and attacking in slow motion when fighting. Outside of the fights it was ok. I was playing a normal game and i had not used any ressurrection skills or poison with my mage fem hawke. One thing i did do however was reload one save alot of times just to get the right dialogue option i wanted. Also my main slow up did not occur until i played alil ingame while still connected online and then decided to plug away my internet connection.

Result was anyway that i had to start again from the year four autosave which seems ok. At times i might be alil slower then especially merril but this does seem to vary alil with staff and buffs that i use. I am now further then i was before and i haven't slowed to that agonizing crawl speed again. Personally i get the feeling that using allure, a dlc spirit staff and elemental weapons buff did slow up my char alil and since then i have avoided non elemental staffs with that buff. Allthough i have tested with my prior bugged saves that once you have the bug in the save removing any buff or weapon won't help anything. Now i just keep alot of battlesaves when my speed was ok and just keep my fingers crossed since loading a save without the bug so far at least helps temporarily.

But i do hope this gets patched soon cause this really is a gamebreaking bug, last time i more or less lost 6 hours of playing. If it happens again i might just have to shelve the game alil till it gets patched.

Oh yeah almost forgot, in general i only go online to patch the game
and get dlc. Afterwards i go offline and that's the way i normally play
the game. So far the bug has only really occured after i started a game
while still online and then disconnected.

Too bad we don't have a save game editor like the pc users who seem to have figured out an easy way to solve this problem by just modifying the bugged attack speed value of their bugged save games with their editor. Apparently somehow the id value for that becomes negative in the bugged games.

Good luck with it Bioware.

I didn't no. I'll try that next time I play the rogue. Thank you. Still, this problem shouldn't be happening. It seems that Bioware should have worked on the game a bit longer to make sure all the bugs were fixed. Mainly because it seems that there are quite a bit of bugs in the game.

Haste does 'fix' it, but only for the duration of the spell. If you've got the upgrade for it, it lasts 20 seconds, and the cooldown is 60 seconds, so that's a third of combat where you're not up to full speed. Couple that with the fact you have to have the spell on a character in your party in the first place.

Question for you guys: have you had a playthrough where you did not encounter the bug at all or has it shown up for you for every playthrough? I'm scared to play a rogue until this is fixed. A warrior at least could be respecced to a tank role but rogues NEED speed.

I'm still on my first playthrough as a mage, but I know that people have encountered it on other classes at least on the PC version.

So far I have only experienced it on my rogue. My mage playthrough was fine and so far my warrior is as well.

The same thing has happened to my warrior (Normal Difficulty). It didn't get really bad until I started the "Demand of the Vicount" Quest near the end of act 2. I think the slow down began near the beginning of Act 2 for me

Based on what I've read on the PC forum, two possible factors could be the amount of times you same and how often you resurrect Hawke with regroup. For me, the amount of saved games could be a factor since my counter was in the 900s and since the bug got progressively worse this could make sense. However, I have never resurrected hawke and only resurrected my teammates twice. These aren't the only possible factors so I recommend viewing the PC version of this thread since they already have 5 pages on this subject. Also Bioware has acknowledged that they have been informed about this bug.

I've heard a lot of people say that act 2 is the big turning point for it. Could it possibly be the quest with the gas in the barrels causing it? Just ran through Bait and Switch on another playthrough with the gas in the mansion that slows you down. Made me think that the act 2 gas might be somewhat permanent and the cause of the bug. Apologies if this has already been addressed/suggested.

Quick update: since my last post i played on and now i´m at beginning of year seven. And while i have slowed down it is nowehere near as ridiculous as before. But it is still rather bad i think i attack at about half the speed of the other mages..... On the pc side it has been suggested it might have something to do with isabella´s friend attack speed bonus not being properly applied when you remove her from party and actually slowing you down each time you remove her.

I am having this very same issue because my Mage Hawke's staff attacks and spells are now just getting super slow. I can walk normal but the staff usage and casting animations are crazy crazy slow. Not sure when it started but I am nearing the end of the game and it's not good. Any patches or updates on the bug? I have been playing like a madman offline so if there is a patch I would love to have it.

I have this bug as well. Around 400 saves in Act 3, but I have revived Hawke mid-fight several times. Playing as a two-handed warrior.

same issue, mage character, got a stop watch out to make sure i wasn't imaging things. Not only does it slow my attacks, but casting is sluggish as well, taking upwards of double other mages, I made a new character mage to have something to compare to. It begins shortly after act III for me, not sure where though, got too frustrated to go back and pinpoint what I did right before losing speed.

edit:  I think it may be a gradual thing that worsens with additional gameplay

It seems this is being caused, primarily, by Isabela's Thumbs Up buff (max friendship). If you're seeing this and don't have Isabela's friendship (and by dont i mean never had) then please post and let me know. Otherwise, we're aware and looking in to it.

This has happened for me as well - it began during Act 2 and I've tried going back to a save before the bug started and it worked for a few quests, and then Hawke suddenly slowed down again - I haven't even gotten halfway through Act 2 yet, and I'm getting really frustrated. Is there any chance that there is going to be a fix released soon? Considering how much combat there is in this game, this bug is really a gamebreaker for me - by the time my mage manages to cast a fireball, all of the targets have run out of the damage zone.

Glad you're looking into it. Shame to need to put a 30+ hour playthrough on hold.

I looked through my saves and the slowdown seems to be present in the first save after I gained Isabella's friendship buff, although it isn't very noticeable at first. It does get worse and worse in the saves down the line as the game goes on......

I really hope this one gets fixed, and soon too...It's a real gamebreaker.
