I decided to restart here and just make Isabella and Sebastian my rivals and never wear any set item gears just to test if the mentioned reasons are really the cause. I´m halfway through act 2 and so far it´s working but i´m not at the point at which the game normally breaks offcourse.......

Btw number of saves is not really the issue. I have played up till save number 800 having less slowdown then the first time i ran into this bug at save 400. And now that i think back knowing what i know now main difference first and second time was that i had swapped isabella in and out alot while she had friendship buff just before the long journey quest and also worn and removed the armor set of the eye. The second time i replayed act 3 a lil i swapped her alot less and i actually beat arishok with a -50% speed mage hawke before i decided to just restart and test what i am doing now.

Heh here´s hoping this works.

What is happening with all your companions? Are you saying that you're main character is experiencing slowdown with any combination of companions in your party? Because the bug doesn't go away whenever you remove Isabella/Sebastian. (Apparently Sebastian's friendship buff causes this problem too I've read). If you don't have either of their friendships and you are experiencing this bug, then that would mean something else might be causing it.

Arghhh! yes thank god I'm not alone on this, it's not affecting my companions but my mage has been getting slower and slower since act 2 It's heart-breaking to spend so much time and effort building a sweet character, and then have that all taken away through a game glitch. Though thanks to this forum I at least have a few theories on how to prevent this after I start over.

Is there some way to increase Hawke's attack speed by using a rune or something until they can fix this? :(

I'm going to try the same. Please keep us posted on whether this works!

it's very frustrating that this bug was not caught by the testers on a great game like this. i stop playing for now until it's fixed because the action is so fantastic with the shield bash and sword action with my previous speed. I'm am almost finished but i cannot continue at this pact. I got that flipping A-BOMB playing elder Scrolls IV. It was such a bummer I was considering a boycott of the developer since i bought a the down-loadable stuff and couldn't play with my well developed character. Please fix quickly so i can play again.

I have this bug as well. Really not happy. Mid-way through Act 2. Did a lot of swapping Isabela out (because Varric is awesome, also), and wore that set gear of the Eye quite a bit. Anyways, really, really hoping there'll be a patch soon. I still own fights (beat Xenenbeck and Varterral, no problemo), but its starting to get annoying. I'm to about 12s cast time animation for Rain of Fire and that's pretty weak. Basically don't bother using my staff anymore, either.

Well this is annoying. I'm experiencing the same thing (my mage takes FOREVER to cast a spell)... I just spent 10 minutes dueling the Arishok because I had to keep running around the room waiting for Cone of Cold to recharge >.<
So because I'm friends with Sebastian and Isabella my character is stuck spell casting in slow motion for the rest of the game!?! That's dumb. It makes gameplay infuriating.

I read about this issue yesterday and today successfully tried to force the slow-down bug. I'm in Act III, and I'm playing an archer. I took Isabella in and out of my party about twenty times at the Hanged Man and then went adventuring. By the fourth quest, I was noticing a little sluggishness, and by the fifth, the high dragon, I was about half the speed I was before the experiment. I'm going to play from my save before the repeated Isabella removings and see if the slow down still happens.

Although, I might just say screw it and wait until a patch and, beyond that, seriously consider not buying a Bioware game until at least a few months after launch, no matter how many Antivan Adders they dangle in front of my eyes.<_<

I have this bug too and its killing me! I want to keep playing it but I can't! I found out about it when I was fighting the Xebenkeck. Then came here found out it was all Sebastian and Isabella fault! Never going to use them ever again!

I was worried this was going to happen to me, given i had Isabella in my party with full friendship for a while, and i always save at my house for the day. So she's been removed a good number of times. Anyway i did some testing, and im not seeing an effect.

This is what i did, i cast in tandem to with Merill to see if there was a difference in speed, and there wasn't. Then i added and removed Isabella 10 times and again then casted two of the same spells in tandem with Merill. Again, no difference in speed between the two.

Lucky me i guess.

So the bug isn't guarenteed. Interesting.

I have really been hit in a major way. I'm part way through act 3 and it is now unplayable after a big section of swapping out characters to work on their inventories. I'm unsure what to do and would welcome any advice. I've gone back through Act 2 saves and now realise it's been getting worse from the first quarter of Act 2. I just didn't notice at first (no wonder I had to turn some boss fights to casual). Pretty sure I would have to replay the whole of act 2 to rid myself of it - and then I would have to be pretty harsh to Isabella to ensure I didn't get the friendship bonus. *$#** - that would totally ruin my RPing as my character really digs her.

I'm at 60 hours playtime (!!) just past the act 3 dragon and I think I may have to replay from the beginning and try and manage Isabela's friendship from the start - get it to more that 50% so I can access her quests, but not high enough to get the bonus. Lets face it, if Bioware do patch it (they better) they'll have to go through QA with Microsoft. The Witch Hunt bug took weeks and weeks. I can't wait that long...

Also, does anyone know if the Sebastian damage bug is affecting the 360? I haven't really noticed. My damage reduction seems to have been 0 throughout the game. I'm playing as a mage - does anyone know if that is the reason?

Man... this has ruined my day and I was LOVING this game. Way more than DA:O. Are there any other work arounds that anyone can think of?

Thanks in advance.

The only "workaround" for console users is to either revert to an old save, or use Haste, neither of which is really good.

You can get a special attack speed rune at the end of Varric's act 3 companion quest.  In the two-hand sword I was using it added +37% attack speed, which made it so my character could actually do stuff in combat again.  It doesn't make things necessarily bearable or fun, but it did at least make it playable, assuming you are at least as masochistic as I am and just have to finish the game. (note: I don't think you can do the particular companion quest until pretty near the end of act 3, around the time Best Served Cold opens up, though I'm not completely sure about that.)

If you're character has stopped attacking completely, another thing you can do is set your main character's tactics to 'cautious' and then remove all actions from him/her so that they don't attack when you don't tell them to, causing them to get frozen starting an animation.  (I also added a 'self>any>wait' command, though i don't know if that did anything).   Then you can cast haste with a mage and use that character in the small timeframe before haste runs out.  Once again, not very fun, but it sort of works if you're desperate.

I did have to set the difficulty to normal, though.

Darn, im in the middle of act 2 and its almost unplayable. Thanks though if i make it that far without being forced to quit then i will keep an eye out for it. :D

I can't believe I have to replay 60 hours. Really hope it doesn't happen again, but on the 360 there's really no way to tell until its too late...

Yup i'm at the very last battle and its too frustrating to continue at it with how slow it has gotten. I noticed it before, but not so much as when I started the very very last quest.

And I seemed to have missed that rune of Varrics... and I wanted a speed rune so I can hack away faster lol Went ahead to see how I would like the mage and its more fun than I expected. I am ussuall always and up close in personal combat guy when it comes to RPGs. Do wish the pulling apart an enemy with ghostly/firey hands spells from the CGI trailer was real......... damn it why can't games look like their CGI trailers by now lol With such flowy hair and facial expressions.... lol Well DA2 is worlds better than DAO and I played through to get almost all achievements even DLC in that game, even though I did not enjoy it all that much. Auto-attack made it incredibly dull. Glad I get to mash A instead lmao

Can't play the game, my character moves like an old man and does as much damage as if he were swinging a twig. Please fix this soon, i can't play the game until this is patched.

Sigh. Loving this game too much to shelf it, but I hate to ditch my mage late in Act 2. Now I have to choose rogue or warrior...and never add Isabela to the party.

Mine began at the final battle of Act 2, and while I had Isabella's friendship, I didn't have it at max?

I'm playing mage on 360 and while I'm not happy about the bug, I'm glad it wasn't my imagination or a negative effect of my class choices.

Edit:  Using my companions as the primary character does seem to make the game playable.

You shouldn't restart the entire game, just wait for the patch, shouldn't be too far off.
