Jesus, this is definitely a game-breaking bug.

Apparently this also can happen with Sebastian as well. Unfortunately, you can not regain any percentage of attack speed that you have lost. However, the only way to avoid/stop this is:

1) Don't befriend Isabella/Sebastian.
2) If you do befriend them, don't put them your party.
3) if you do put them in your party, ALWAYS place them in your party before every save. If you load a save in which they were not in your party, you will receive a -5% hit ever time you load it.

Bioware needs to patch this, ASAP.

Can anyone confirm the bolded? I've been waiting for this glitch to get patched before starting my playthrough, but if your second point is true I might just start playing. I was under the impression though that after loading a save without Isabela/Sebastian in your party the next time you select a party you will be affected by the glitch regardless of who you select.

I really don't understand how a bug this prevalent got through testing. The only thing I can think of is that the bug testers all did speed runs trying to get the game out quickly and missed things like this since this glitch and the Merrill glitch require you to get those characters up to 100% friendship. It is not acceptable to virtually make the customers pay $60 each to be beta testers.

It's sort of impossible not to put them in your party because they are locked in their quests.

Having tested a BioWare game in the past, I can completely understand this issue slipping through.

You have to understand that a tester will be running through the game for eight to ten hours a day, and they'll be extraordinarily familiar with every aspect of it. They won't save at Hawke's estate (which seems to be the common initial trigger for the bug) and they won't save and load even a tenth of the number of times we do (which is what seems to cause the accumulation of the penalty) and the bug isn't really noticeable until it's truly detrimental to the experience.

Add to that the bug being so slowly cumulative over a long period of time and the fact that for all the man-hours a team of 100 testers would put in over the course of year there will be more time invested into the game on the first DAY by end users, and it makes a lot of sense that something like this wouldn't be fixed.

Granted, I'm pissed that I had to stop playing the game because I was really enjoying it up until it became impossible to do so, but ****ing about BioWare's QA isn't going to help and it probably won't make you feel better either. Just make sure BioWare doesn't forget the bug is still there.

The Merril romance breaking the game, however, cannot be explained.

Even though I don't want to, I'm going to have to take a break from this game until this is fixed. Cannot fight effectively and I don't want to start a second character until I finish my first one.

Sorry, but I'm not buying it. This isn't a difficult bug to replicate--it doesn't involve some elaborate set of circumstances for it to happen, it simply requires you to load your game without certain party members. If QA isn't testing fundamental things like saving and loading, it doesn’t speak well to BioWare’s process. I’ve also worked in this field, and I have some experiencing in coding as well (websites, which I know are not as complicated as games, but the idea is similar enough), so I know stuff happens and things can slip through the cracks, but I have a hard time believing this bug wasn’t encountered enough to even raise the red flags at BioWare. And if it was, but the game was released anyway, well...

Btw i´m at the last act or close to it i´m guessing.... i beat the high dragon and i have no slowdown again as of yet unlike my past game as mage. The trick for me was by making both isabella and sebastian my rivals and not wearing set armor gear. Allthough i have started wearing the champion gear just because it looks so damn cool and i´m not planning on removing that so it shouldn´t matter. So by avoiding friendship with those two characters the slowdown should be prevented.

I really wish they would sticky this thread so we would know that they are really putting some time into this bug. In my opinion this is one of the worst bugs in the game, and it is definitely game-breaking. I haven't played by Dragon Age game in almost a week since my character started becoming ridiculously slow.

I've had this problem on 360 also with a mage. Didn't notice it until act 3 but it is getting progressively slower so it could have started earlier.

Same deal here.  Act 3, as a mage.  I love Bioware products but if this cannot be resolved, its a deal breaker for me.  I can't finish the game like this.

Someone in the PC thread on this topic mentioned that they hadn't been getting injuries on Hawke when dying since the bug started. I have also noticed this on my play through, though I'm not sure if the two are actually related, since I've only seen one other post related to it.

I have been playing with the bug since roughly the beginning of Act 3 (which seems to be standard), although I might have noticed a little slow down in the fight at the end of Act 2.

It has now gotten to the point where my attack speed must be at -100%. I've been experimenting a little with earlier saves where my character could still actually attack, and I found that simply swapping Isabella in and out of the party doesn't affect the speed any, or at least not immediately upon doing so, so it seems like there's a little more going on.

A few things about my playthrough:
I am playing a two-hand weapon wielding warrior, have respecced him several times.  The only times I ever swap Isabella into my party are for her specific missions, to level her up, or to give her new equipment.
I am playing on hard difficulty, though due to the widespread nature of the bug, I doubt that matters much.
I do save compulsively (up to around save number 1230), and there are times where I reload various save files multiple times and even times where I will save a game and then reload that save immediately.

One other thing I have noticed (that I think has been mentioned before) is that I do often see Isabella's friendship buff in my abilities list even when she's not in my party, but sometimes it's not.

Hope some of this helps in finding a solution

Similiar situation for me with Isabella's buff being constant regardless if she is in  the party or not.  I rolled a mage, using as a healer/ damage dealer.  It started a short time into act 3 for me.

I first noticed this problem fighting the Arishok (the one-on-one duel, so I couldn't have anyone else in the party). I was wondering why I seemed to be moving so slowly against him... I figured it was the staff I was using for some reason. FTR, I'm on the 360 version, on casual, with a male mage.

This is really too much. I'm certainly not giving up on Bioware, but after ME3 I'm never pre-ordering one of their games again. I'm just stunned at how something that makes the game so controller-throwingly frustrating slipped through.

I agree, this should be stickied. They've got the DLC Achievements not popping stickied, and in my (and I'm sure most people's) opinion, this is a heck of a lot worse than not getting some useless gamerscore.

Seconded. I've cooled off my initial iritation at the actual bug, and have shelved it until it's fixed, but what's possibly even more frustrating now is that every time I check back on the threads, more and more people are suffering from this problem and there has been NO communication from Bioware. No simple update to let us know if and when this is going to be fixed, or even any progress they've made.

We're truly being let down day by day on this one.

Just adding my name to the list to try and garner some attention from Bioware, hopefully an official announcement will come up soon on when this bug will be fixed.

Going silent on this one is a bad PR move. Programmers and Testers had their hand in this fault, but lack of communication could actually hurt the company more. This is remedial customer relations, keep the consumer abreast of what is being done to alleviate the issue, make their concerns feel justified and heeded.

^ This.  Absolutely.  All it really takes is a moment to say "Hey, we understand it's a problem, guys, and we're working on it with all haste.  Look for a fix as early as next week."  Instead, we all just keep clicking refresh on the forums, waiting for any word and becomming gradually more irate because we can't even play the $60 game bought in good faith and supported with our preorders and purchases.

Got this bug too, noticed it in the later half of Act 2. A real shame too because I was actually really enjoying this game. Shelved till patch so hopefully I can fend off Act 3 spoilers till then.

I have this bug as well, and I'm already in Act 3, a significant portion of Act 3 and it's caused me to shelve my rogue PT. I do hope Bioware releases a patch soon and that it can correct existing bugged saves not just prevent them from occurring in future ones, otherwise that's a lot of game hours out the window. For now I'm just going to start a new PT with a different character wait till the patch arrives.

Bioware please fix this bug soon, for the love of kittens and all, because it's a real game breaker.

Don't know if this counts but I've actually broken the animations on my rogue such that the arms and daggers move seperately from each other too. I was amused for a while until I broke it further and my Hawke had a severe case of derpsville and was stuck slightly bent over with jazz hands. She was like this for cutscenes AND combat, which became a problem because I couldn't fight properly. Thankfully, resetting the game entirely got rid of it but I didn't know if this was worth it's own thread or not.

This bug makes the game utterly and completely unplayable by the time the player knows it's happening. Unlike PC players, the only thing we can do as console players in this situation is to reload a very, very old save, or start over completely.

Given that this is a bug that virtually everyone who befriends OR romances Isabela OR Sebastian will experience, those circumstances should make fixing this bug more than a high priority. It should be on the highest level of emergency.

This MUST be fixed. Yesterday. And it is not enough to prevent it from happening in future playthroughs. BioWare needs to fix it so that attack speed and damage resistance is restored for those who have lost it. Period.

I hope that they release a patch that fix this as soon as they can. The only way I can play on Xbox now is with cheats (lv 50) and the Berserker speed up ability. With my mage Hawke, I can't play, because Haste is glitched on Hawke, and last only few seconds and not 30.
