In a way I was glad not to see the idol coming and in another I was disappointed. It didn't play much of a central role to be the "driving force" of the plot. It was obvious that the idol was mind effecting as soon as you find it, but I never really connected it to Meredith. That was good, I simply missed the cues to this fact. But the "idol" itself didn't give off a truly dangerous vibe in the main plot.
To be honest the quests dealing with Varric's brother and then his house were more intimidating to me than "I have a huge sword and learned cool Final Fantasy moves!" It seemed less dark and very gamish. I was actually moved and a bit freaked out when you go back to the house.
I still felt far too secondary as this character. Sure important things are going on and when the crap hits the fan I get to go kill the big bad wolf. The thing I felt it lacked was being able to dramatically effect the storyline. It seemed too linear to me. No chance to reconcile, change, or prevent the actions of Meredith, Orison, and Anders was annoying. They could be seen a mile away (other than Anders which you could only anticipate about a 1/4 mile away vaguely) and even as the "Champion" you apparently didn't have enough clout to actually change anything.
Overall Plot was Mehh (Major Spoilers)

Plot was fantastic and epic. It goes slowly during Act I, becomes Origins level during Act II, and surpasses it with a fantastic moral conflict in Act III. Really glad I picked this game up.

Another question I have. How are they going to continue this series (with save imports) on current consoles? Again they could pull it off, but I don't want another rushed game.

It starts out OK and just gets worse as it progresses.
I would have preferred that it had been more "down to earth" and less "over the top" so to speak. I'll take The Qunari invasion, the Landsmeet, and Oaths of Fealty over abominations and lyrium-stricken psychos.

I also wished Cassandra and Varric (sp?) intervened in the game a lot more. I can only think of four parts when the story was brought into question/commented on by the seeker.

Complaining that the plot isn't epic enough in this game is like saying chapter 5 of your favorite book doesn't tell a complete or epic enough story by itself.
I will say that I felt like there should have been more story after the ending, but I'm content enough to wait for da3.

Wait... I am not denying that the game is epic, but I didn't like the idol element. I would be happy if more emphasis was placed on the idol instead of just a few missions.

I liked the political issues in this game. At least the plot wasn't you must do this or else the world dies with you.

Is it too early for DA3 theorycraft?
