Hi everyone. Please use this thread to post any issues you're encountering that are SPECIFIC TO THE PROLOGUE & ACT 1 of the game.

While we're making an attempt to capture the various issues posted in individual threads, this will give us a nice central place to begin collecting and addressing these.

Getting stuck on the loading screen after you finish the prologue. (Saveloop of death/doom)

The quest "The Wayward Son" is horrendously bugged.

Two problems seem to have been identified by a wide spread of users:

1. people are unable to talk to Samson - they see a quest icon over his head but no proper dialogue.

2. At the section where you need to "search the bodies of the slavers for clues" the particular body you need, that of the named bad guy you fight in Darktown is not there, because he vanishes for no reason mid fight. Others have found that he is there on the ground and his body shimmers but is unlootable.

This is pretty much a gamebreaker, as you cannot carry on with the game if you cannot complete this quest - I am faced with losing almost 6 hours of gameplay because of this bug. Might I suggest a simple fix for the issue of the corpse you need to loot not being there?

If the bad guy you need to loot despawns or is unlootable, simply apply a small hotfix so that the item you need to pick up is not on a corpse, but on the table next to the slavers, or even in the chest at the back of the room. I am sure you have tools that easily allow you to manipulate items in the game world, so this shouldn't cause too many problems.

During the opening cut scene the screen blacks out and after about 20 seconds the game closes itself. Skiping the cutscene avoids this problem but the same thing happens in the second cutscene. I assume it will happen during all cutscenes.

I've downloaded the patch but still can't import my save from either Awakening or Origins. The game states neither is a accepted game module, even though they clearly should be.

Quest marker is bugged but you can still continue the quest as normal if you go to the Docks(Night) -> Warehouse District.

after cut scene with flemmeth every cut scene afterwards the scene goes visuals disappear but the game commentary continues, then some of the dialog options come partially into focus, but they can't be selected. happens everytime now, worst place is after the fight in the courtyard with the deserters in act 1. please help.

WOW Thank you thank you thank you! The patch has fixed it :) I could not save and I had loading screen of death straight after the Flemeth scene. I also had a annoying icon oon the right with arrows going round it. All fixed with patch I can start my game proper :)

Freeze in prologue while initial battle of darkspawn happening...before Flemeth...Freeze, then gray vertical line screen, then Windows error and shutdown message.

Just installed latest graphics driver package for ATI Radeon HD 4250...same error.
Tried Patch 1.01...same error.

Help, please?

I carried over a save in which Warden's Keep was completed with Sophia Dryden dead and Avernus alive. In Act 1, I found both a letter from Avernus and Sophia Dryden with a bunch off spiders.

I'm in the blooming rose, trying to talk to Emeric for "The First Sacrifice", but he's seated and unclickable. I have already spoken with Ghyslain.

I have been unable to talk to Athenril/ Meeran. Any clues would be helpful. No key on my keyboard seems to initiate dialogue.

A minor one for me:

The 'Pier Pressure' side quest is bugged for me. After learning the location of the Red Raiders hideout, I went to their warehouse and killed everyone inside including the leader, Leech. The quest is still open in my journal and I can't get the reward from the woman at the Hanged Man.

After meeting Isabelle in the bar, outside, you follow her, and get in a couple of fights, then when I'm supposed to go to the Chantry, there is a quest marker on the chantry, as well as a label.  But I cannot enter, or right or left click on anything.

I recruited Merrill and supported her use of blood magic when she took down the barrier on the mountain and had heard that this particular encounter would affect her standing with me. I also went to her dwelling afterwords and picked the option to flirt with her. Neither of these increased her friendship with me and I think they were supposed to.

My game randomly freezes then closes out. Only seems to happen in Kirkwall, other than that it's random.

On the Deep Roads Boss fight, my charater got stuck near one of the columns of stone.

From the perspective of viewing the boss fight chamber/room as you enter it, my character got stuck on the furthest right-hand pillar when the boss rolled himself there. The weird thing is, when my character got stuck, she wasn't up against the pillar , just near it. I was using Shield Defense and she just froze right up against the boss. (Fortunately the boss was nearly dead so I ended up defeating it regardless). There was no animation, and my main character would not respond to commands to move or to perform abilities. Once the cutscene finished though (as I defeated the boss anyway) all was normal again (not surprising since it was an entirely new area i spawned in).

In the "Enemies Among Us" mission, after I've defeated everyone, I am unable to click on/speak to/rescue Keran. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm having an issue with the quest "Long Way Home". When I reach the alter, nothing happens. I assume there's meant to be a cutscene. I've run up and down the mountain, killed and looted everything available, returned to Kirkwall, tried using different party members, etc.
I tried reverting to a previous save, but I save frequently, and can't go back far enough. I've tried rebooting too, so its not that. Help?

The quest "The Wayward Son" is horrendously bugged.

Two problems seem to have been identified by a wide spread of users:

1. people are unable to talk to Samson - they see a quest icon over his head but no proper dialogue.

I can confirm an issue with this quest where Samson get's a stuck quest arow above his head, but will not give any quest related "cutscene dialog" - he still gives a 'you better hurry up' one-liner on activating.

Steps I took in my playthrough that triggered the issue:
  • Pick up the wayward son quest from the boy's mother outside Merrill's house in the elven alienage. The quest suggests two alternate paths of action: a) ask the boys father, B) ask the templar Thrask in the Gallows
  • Went to the boy's father (V-something), a merchant in Lowtown and pressed him for clues, he should direct the player to Samson -> Samson get's a quest arrow (both on the map and above his head)
  • Talk to Samson, I threatened him to get a lead, he sends you to a warehouse in the docks -> Samson looses his quest arrow
  • I traveled to the docks and entered the marked warehouse
  • Then without leaving the first room and not triggering any fight I left the warehouse again
  • Traveled to the Gallows and asked the templar Thrask for clues, Thrask will send you to Samson
    Samson get's another quest arrow - this arrow will not disappear upon speaking to samson again, since he longer gives quest related dialog, he only repeats his 'you better hurry one-liner'
  • Return to the Docks warehouse and finish the quest
The 'second' quest marker for samson will stick for the remainder of the whole act, no matter if the quest is still open or completed.
I don't know if the second hint sending you to Samson triggers the stuck quest marker or if you need to actually enter the Docks warehouse as well.
