I've experienced two issues.

I have the same issue with Merrill conversations as many others here. "Consoling Words" never appears and "Mourning" shows up as already complete at the start of Act 2.

I've also received the quest "Fool's Gold." The Prima guide says this only happens if Nathaniel was not recruited or died at Vigil's Keep in Awakening. In the save I carried over, he survived.

Act II quest markers: When I go to the city/world map, I am not getting quest markers over the locations where I have active quests, and when I hover over a location where I know there is a quest (because I just looked in my journal!) there is no box in the top left showing the quest for that location. Some show up, and some don't.

All the quests in Act I showed up correctly for me bar one, it was the one with the irritating man who had lost his wife - the "first sacrifice" I think, the marker only showed up on the local area map, not the city map. Seems to be a far more common problem in Act II.

I don't mind playing a game without any quest markers on the map at all, having to find my own way around (as long as we are given good directions that are noted in our journal and can ask NPCs for directions!) but if they are going to be included then it should be consistent.

Just to add/reiterate information about the Merrill Act II problem, in my game Bethany didn't come with me to the deep roads and was taken to the Circle, right after that I got a quest called "Consoling Words" in my journal and was able to have a conversation with Merrill in her home about the situation. Also a quest titled "Mourning" (which is presumably the alternative conversation if your sibling dies) showed up in my completed quests page, which confused me momentarily!

Hopefully there'll be a temporary patch that allows us to "un-complete" the quest, because I sure as heck do not want to replay 2/3 of the game by the time BioWare gets back on Monday, and has a patch out a few days or weeks later. Yes something like that could be open to abuse, but does that really matter?

Well, apparently you get "Merrill - After the Deep Roads" after doing the Fade quest.

Also experiencing the Merrill "Mourning" bug where the quest auto-completes after speaking with the viscount. I was planning to romance Merrill as well so I haven't really been able to the play the game for a couple days now waiting/hoping for some kind of fix or workaround so my playthrough won't be messed up by this.

I've also encountered the bug where all of Merrill's companion quest are unavailable. "Mourning" appears as complete at the start of Act 2 and her quests never appear when other companion quests do. The mirror is in her house but her dialog is the default, "Why is my house such a mess."

An additional Act 2 bug: I've received the quest "Fool's Gold." According the Prima Guide, the quest only appears for games with transferred saves if Nathaniel was never recruited or died in Awakening. He survived in my game.

I have 3 bugs in act 2.

1) The thugs side quest in the docks. Ive cleared the ones in lowtown and hightown but this area seems to not spawn them. Ive tangled with them once and now nothing.

2) The Forbidden Knowledge quest. Ive burned all 5 books but no update to go for the Forgotten Tome. So its stuck in my quest log with no update.

3) Sketch Chantry Quest. Ive cleared all 5 bandits ( which was tiring to find) Sketch gave me his wand but the quest did not clear? So is it stuck or will it just stay there?

I'm in the blooming rose, trying to talk to Emeric for "The First
Sacrifice", but he's seated and unclickable. I have already spoken with
Ghyslain.

ETA: I believe I've confused the acts. Sorry.

Ive had the Mourning bug too. I did reload a save I had right after I beat the rock wraith as it took me a few tries on hard before I beat it. It showed the quest after that and I cleared it.

The thug quest and tome is bugging me. I want to know what we get for clearing all 9 and I cant do that if they will not respawn. Ive gone into the docks numerous times, and they just wont show. Also the tome quest is suppose to give you 4 total attribute points. 2 at the beginning and 2 at the end and I cant get the last 2 if the quest wont update. Ive reloaded saves for both quests with no success.

Merill bug in act 2, although act3 seems to revert itself and I have to spend the entire act re-gaining her friendship/rivalry.

 I've been having this issue since Act 1 but it's now affected even more cutscences.
The cutscences in which Varric (sp?) is telling the story in the future to that woman...as the cutscences changes to an more "classical animation" style (when our character "goes up in the world thanks to the gold" etc.) it starts and then about 10seconds in freezes then crashes out of the game. Now it even crashes within the "in game" style dialogue and story. I've had this problem with the other 2 cutscences like this in theprevious chapter (the beginning about darkspawns/ the battle, and also what the witch of the wilds did once she saved them). I've avoided the crash by skipping the scence but I shouldn't have to miss half the story just to play a, frankly, Okay game.

Am now also having graphics problems, I realise I do have a graphics card that is not THE recommended one but it's video memory is 256Mb which should work. Anyway, is anyone else getting really wierd graphics - spikes all over the place obscuring the whole screen? I've tried reloading and same issues.

Really enjoying this non-playing ability, such good value for money! <_< Seriously there are so many fundemental problems with this you should have released this later. A couple of de-buggings is fine but nearly everyone is finding something wrong. I know your trying to rectify this but thats not the issue, the issue it this should have gone through more testing! There's hardly a special event going on that means a swift release like Xmas (okay so mothers day is a 3 weeks but I don't think they'd appreciate this game - if there gamers at all)! Would 1 more week of checking have cost that much?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, windows 7-64bit, GeForce 310M, 4Gb RAM, 300+Gbfree space.

It's not really major, but Hawke seems to lose some of his/her "personality" combat banter from Act 2 onwards. I miss sarcastic Hawke complaining about the constant waves of enemies per battle.

I completed the cave bit in act of mercy but thrask died and i cant go on unfortunately i saved after this. Im now stuck as i cant leave for the dark roads as it says i have that last quest to complete.
I have conctacted EA technical support to be told no patch no help, you need to start again basically, im disgusted, have all of Biowares game from Baldurs gate onwards. This is a total disgrace.Last EA game i ever buy.

I've found a temporary fix to the Merrill bug using the developer console. If you don't know how to enable the console, follow these instructions:

** Developer Console Enabling Instructions; skip if you already know this **

Find the file "DragonAgeIILauncher.xml" in the directory \\Dragon Age II\\data\\ wherever you've installed the game. You're going to edit this file. If you're afraid you may break your game, you can make a backup copy. That said, it's not really that complicated to do correctly. Right-click on the .xml file and select Open with > Notepad.

Ctrl+F and seach for the following string:

<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" /

After the last quotes and before the forward slash you want to add the following text:

arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole"

The line should now read:

<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\\DragonAge2.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole" />

Make sure there is a single space before and after the text you added. If you want to be sure, just copy the string above and replace the entire original string the the .xml file.

Save and exit. The developer console is now enabled.

** End Dev Console Enable Instructions **

Now you will be able to activate "Mirror Image" (or any companion quest) manually. This can potentially cause problems with other plot flags if you activate it when it when it shouldn't be available, so I suggest only doing this after having completed "Blackpowder Courtesy," which is when it is supposed to trigger.

Hit the backtick [ ` ] key to open the console. It's the same key as tilde [ ~ ], above your [Tab] key. You will not see any visual indictation that the console is open.

Type the following string to open the Merrill specific debug console. Again, you will not see any text on the screen.

runscript zz_mrl_debug

Press [Enter]. If you made a mistake typing blind, nothing will happen and the console will automatically close. Hit [ ` ] and try again. If you did it correctly, you'll see some text at the top of the screen and a dialog wheel that is actually a debug menu will appear.

Select Main Plot > Act 2 > Mirror Image

This will teleport you to Lowtown with Merrill in you party. (If you have a full party without her beforehand, you'll have a party of five and will need to remove everyone on the party selection screen to fix this.) Walk forward for a bit and the quest will initiate along with a short line of dialog from Merrill. You can then go to her hut to talk to her and start Mirror Image.

You can use the same menu to try to activate her initial Act 2 dialog (Other Dialog > Act 2 > First Act 2 Talk). However, it doesn't seem to work. It teleports you to her hut but there is no special dialog. So, this fix only works on the main body of her quest.

For the quest Sketchy on the Details, after successfully killing all the assassins, I go back to Sketch to talk to him, and while the quest appears to be completed, the Arrow over his head never goes away, and the quest never gets moved to completed in my quest book, untill the end of the Act.

i have had issues were companions have the quest mark over there head and am unable to talk to them issebella and merill how ever you spell there names
merill's quest line with the mirrior does not flag properly i got the part witch should of came after going up the moutain to talk to the demon

also it feels like a large # of the choices i make have no real affect in the game it all ends the same i cant even get beathany or carver to join the grey wardens when i take them in to the deep roads even though i imported saved game of them surviving

and major flag does not carry over
on dragon age awaking
i sent anders away before making him a grey warden and i had sir pounce alot in my inventory
yet he still pops up as the grey warden and talks about sir pounce alot

im starting to think you guys just rushed this entire game and if that is so who ever idea it was to do that fire them sob's i would of gladly of waited a few more months for these issues to be fixed then be this disappointed

I got the Merrill "Mourning" bug that seems to have screwed up the whole series of Merrill quests because in Act 3, I get her reaction scene in her house before doing her Act 3 quest.

Also, the Forbidden Knowledge quest stays active even though I found all of the books.  I didn't destroy them, though.  I don't know if this is intended since I didn't really complete the quest in the way the quest giver wanted me to complete it.

Others: when you talk to the Desire Demon during Sebastian's quest in the Hidden Underground-something, she tells you that even bringing her two cities would not make you worthy of her service. The dialogue doesn't advance afterwards (I even left my room for some minutes but still no different line when I returned), you have to press ESC for Sebastian to speak his line (something like 'don't listen'). So far, I tried twice and it happened both times.

Just some minor, ie. not game breaking, quest stuff (I'm playing on PC, Steam version) -

Night Terrors - I didn't help the demon and all I got from the Keeper was a tome that showed up as a junk item (which I sold for some silvers) and didn't do anything, when I saw the word tome come up in the items received notification I got all excited and it was a bit of a let down - is it supposed to be like this or is it a bug?

How to Frame a Templar - in the gallows I pick up the delivery scroll and write the Templar's name on it, then take it to the dockworker - then the quest marker appears back where the scroll was, and lo and behold there's another scroll which I can interact with and write his name on again. After that the quest updated properly.
