So in my play through I messed up a ton of stuff, lost about 3 team members, mom died, and a ton of side quests went horribly wrong. In my ending I sided with the mages, and things well....didn't go so great. Now I really want to end the game siding with the mages, has anyone found a way to get the best possible ending with the mages. Does a combination of choices etc result in the ending being less bad? I realize there probably isnt a "good" ending, all I want is the "least bad" ending (when siding with the mages).

Decent is relative. My Hawke's not much more stable than Anders and so fireballing people was the happy solution.

But no, not really. People will suffer regardless of what you choose.

I'm pretty sure the actual ending for each side is set almost the same throughout. Guess getting more companions to stay loyal would help.

There isn't much variation in ending. Small things can change, but other than that it's all very VERY static. There's no feeling of "treaties" from DAO where you could recruit werewolves and such. This time? You're just stuck with the ending you saw. In fact it's arguable to say that you do more for the mages by siding with the Templars because then you can spare the non-blood mages and see some escape. Strangely... you don't get that when you side with the mages. And to top if off you become Vicount. So yeah... badly static.

Thats pretty disappointing, I like it when all the less critical choices actually make a difference (for example the anvil and the choice for the dwarven king in orgins) I enjoyed the game, and even the story, but the ending really makes everything feel less important. I would love it if we got a decent ending if for example we handled all the mage/templar quests just right etc.
