Yeah, I don't care much for glowstick boy. Great in battle, not so much in conversation.

Oh yeah! I DID recruit that guy, didn't I? Waste of time. At least he's on the far left so he doesn't get in the way of picking useful party members.

I love him in combat, but felt he was predictable and unvarying. Also, how unoriginal is the escaped slave bit? He does look awesome.

I played a mage and he was one of my favorite characters. Especially at the end, for a moment I felt betrayed when he sided with the templars, but in the end he switches sides to help me.
A true bro.

Well, the guy's grown up a slave in a -totally- screwed up mage run culture. Anders bickers with Fenris the entire time, and brings up a few good points. But Fenris is shown to be RIGHT about the things he comments on. Personally, I love his dry commentary on things. Like Grace wanting you to murder Thrask, "Oh, yes, let's murder a Templar. That ALWAYS makes things better." and his arguments with Sebastian over with the Maker helped him escape, and Varric's teasing of him. Not to mention Fenris trying to get favors out of Aveline subtly. He, like all of the companions, has quite a few good lines and having him along on Qunari situations is always more fun than not. Yes, he hates mages. He would. He was owned by one and everyone in the Imperium thinks its a GRAND idea to use blood magic. He hasn't seen shining examples of them, though he seems to slowly find Bethany an exception to his viewpoint. I'm not saying Fenris is correct to be all, "Mages should just be locked up!", but we can't really use the excuse, "But mages can't help it, they're born this way." Mages may not have chosen it, but without guidance, they DO tend to fall into becoming abominations. Morrigan didn't because she did have Flemeth teaching her. Bethany had her father's instruction.. and she states in one conversation that her father was instructed in the circle and escaped. So even Bethany and Mage!Hawke were raised by someone who knew the circle's teachings. To the kid born to random person who knows nothing about magic? You don't say to someone, "Look, I know you were born with this genetic defect and could die from it if you don't get help, but you're right, you shouldn't have to go to the hospital." In the case of mages, if they 'die' from what they're born with, others around them can go down too.
The problem isn't the circles. They're necessary. But they need to be less prisons and more places of mandatory learning THAT PEOPLE CAN COME AND GO TO. It's right to go, "You were born with this ability, you need to learn to use it so you don't kill innocents." It's wrong to abuse those who were born with it. So Fenris is right and wrong. Just as Anders is right and wrong in the way he views things too.

He's useful for combat and two-handed tank but his attitude toward mages are full of prejudice and hatred. I know his character been through a lot but he refuse listening to reason, overall I think that also make him alike Sten but more aggresive.

Honestly? No, I'm not disappointed with how he turned out. But then again, I never allowed myself to think he's be anything but the brooding elf we were told of over the past few months. Is he one of the duller companions compared to the likes of Merrill and Varric? Of course, but I certainly don't feel let down for how he turned out. And while I dislike his stance on mages to a point, Oneiropolos makes a good point about why he turned out that way. Unlike many who dislike mages purely on principle without ever having encountered one, Fenris knows first hand what magic can do when wielded by those who are unable to bear the responsibility it requires. The only times he's ever encountered mages who use their power responsibly are when he joins your little group, and even then that's only if Bethany is still alive and your main character is a mage with a good heart and head on their shoulders. Merrill is a blood mage who consorts with demons and whose foolishness causes a wealth of suffering for others under a well intended stance, and do I even need to elaborate on just what Anders does during the course of the story that make him suspect? The point is he's only just being introduced to the idea that not all mages cause havoc for those around them, and even then it's only in a select few cases.

Fenris is my favourite character. I think he did an excellent job of arguing the side that's less popular among fans, his dry sense of humour always amused me, I love how he was always good for stirring up interesting conflicts in the group, and he's one of the most unique romances I've seen. Adored him.

I like him. I don't think he is just some brooding, emo elf. I think his friendship with hawke is well done, and dispels the feeling that he is a self-absorbed, self-indulgent emo.
His party banter with Sebastian is also pretty interesting, and something I bet a few people missed. Basically, Sebastian and Fenris start discussing religion and The Maker, and eventually, Fenris seems somewhat receptive.

Yep. I LOVE That Sebastian caught Fenris praying and his excuse is 'trying to fit in'.

He is a tough nut to crack but I actually enjoyed having him giving me sh*t for my decisions. I don't want a party of Yes Men following me and hanging on my every word. Every team needs a Hawkeye to keep their Captain America grounded.

DA2 has me questioning is mages should really be allowed to go free anyway. Fenris's prejudice is completely in character for what his back story is. I found him to be an interesting character, his romance was really well written. I never felt like he was self-involved tbh. He wanted vengeance for his mistreatment, but I didn't feel like that made him selfish or anything. I could get behind that, if I was wronged as badly as him I'd want vengeance too. I didn't feel like he was overly brooding too, he had a dry sense of humor to him that I enjoyed.
I think, so far, all the characters are well written and developed though. With the exception of the sibling (who they take from you anyway) and Isabella

Too many walls of texts crited me in this thread so I didnt read the entire thing but Fenris might have been my favorite character, and I HATED him at first. Loved his demeanor and his damage abilities, I used him maybe once in Act 1 but by Act 3 he was a regular member.
