There is a mission that you do for Merrill that gets the Keeper killed (possessed by Demon), then the whole clan tries to kill you so you kill them too, right.  For some reason when I get back it tells me to talk to Merrill, but she's talking as if it never happened and the keeper is still alive (and about the mirror), that's if the keepers name was Marithari or whatever, forgot the spelling. I'm not really sure if I missed something or what's going on, but it seemed like this convo should have been before the mission... or has Merrill finally gone completely mad trying to deny it ever happened or something?...

it's a bug, I had to fix it with a console command. For some reason my first talk in the act to Merrill is her saying she's dead, when that part didn't even happen and I never killed the Pride demon. I just activated the quest and did the full thing to fix it.

The quest completely deactivates for me since Merill told me that they were dead right off the bat out of place... the questline completely vanishes. Edge, how did you fix it?

this is so amazingly incredibly rubbish. i mean that's hardly a minor "glitch" is it. was the game even test played before release? I can't remember the last time i saw such a glitchy game (judging from other comments) being released. Fortunately I have encountered no glitches so far. OH WAI- totally jinxed myself there....

As far as being glitchy, on Borderlands you walk through walls, and fall through the ground (falling till respawn) and don't forget the new Fallout games (3 and NV) they are far more riddled with glitches than this or ME2, the difference is the Fallout glitches lock up systems most of the time or with PC it's CTD.

It really depends on what you say. If you take responsibility for Merrill he'll tell you to get lost. Any other choice has the clan attempt to kill you.

Because of this glitch though we never really get to see Merrill's reaction if her whole clan was killed while escaping. 

The scene triggers even before you start her last quest and thus the game just sort of assumes that you got out and only Merethari died.

Hmm. Might have fixed it via console using runscript zz_mrl_debug and selecting the second option under main quest.

When I started Act 3 I went to see Merrill and she was crying about how everyone was dead, the end of her quest. I just finished the King Alistar quest and now her quest is available and I'm doing it, any clue how this will affect my game later on?

How can you get this console to work? This quest is bugged for me as well after killing all the elves.

I consoled her about killing the keeper and all the elves before the actual quest started, I was a bit perplexed as to why she was crying hysterically. Luckily it didn't glitch out and I actually played the quest, was a bit surprised I had to kill all the elves.

Got the same glitch aswell, She was crying and telling about "why she had to die", man I was confused. And I coulndt talk to her after that. The companion interraction is quite annoying and buggy apparently, really not an improvement from DA:O.

At what point should the achievement for romancing a companion pop up? I've given Merrill both gifts, completed her quests, and I'm at 100% Friend. Do I have to wait for a point in the story for it to be counted as a completed romance? I'm concerned that it might not show up because Merrill's quest "A New Path," was glitched at the beginning of Act 3.

There's a very definite point in the story at which you get the achievement.  The romance achievement in this game is like the ones in ME and ME2 as opposed to the one in DA:O.  i.e. you can't get it until just before the end of the game.

At first i dident know what to expect, found her crying in front off her forsaken mirror, and said something she killed them all, i am a monster

And then she asks me to return to the camp and find this demon,

And i find out her clan is not dead, but the spoiler bug made me realize that the clan was doomd.

Hmm will have to wait for a 360 update before I complete my second play through then. Hopefully Bioware fixes this soon.

Strange, I didnt even realize this was a glitch. Same thing happened to me. Went to talk to Merrill and she was all crying over the Keeper's death.....yet hadn't done the quest yet.

How was this quest suppose to unlock....or am I just screwed over from accessing it now because of the glitch?

Also, where did you get Merrill's gifts? I can't seem to find these anywhere, I can find mostly every other gift.
I think Bioware should have tested this a little more before releasing the game, still seems rushed to me with the bugs alone.

I saved her clan by saying I'd take responsibility, and was able to carry on properly afterwards.

As to the person asking about completing the romance, it doesn't happen until you're preparing for one of the final battles in the game and can talk to all your companions before the battle. Or at least that's how it went down for me.

You buy her first gift from Master Ilen in act two, and the second one drops from the thief boss guy during the Murder of Crows questline.

i experiene this glitch as well. start of act 3, visited her and she was crying about how they were all dead and i told her it wasnt her fault and moved on. didnt even realize what the hell it was about until i read about the quest i didnt do cuz i never got the chance.

If you do Merill's quest in Act 3, then get her "Friend of Foe" quest afterward, everything is fine. If you don't get that, I think the glitch/bug screwed you over and the romance won't be completed. Hurray... *sigh*

I honestly have no idea if this effects the romance for Merrill, but I'm not risking going further. Hopefully a patch will be done for it soon, cause I'm a console player so I'm really screwed right now... Figures though, the last thing I wanted to be bugged is the first bug I've found. *sigh*
