i dont have a mage import to use, so i was just wondering what the references to the warden being your cousin has any effect on the game or if its mentioned at all.

Not many that I can recall,
Your mother mentions her cousin who lost most of her children to the circle including the hero of Ferelden.
Cullen mentions to Hawke how he knew an Amell once, who left the circle then return to save them all from Uldreds madness.
Anders references how a mage saved them from the blight.

Over all it was disappointing, from what I hear (and guess) Dalish origin has the most references.

I honestly thought my mage character from DA:O was my uncle. I guess I'll have to re-read the amell family details on my next play through. As for references, pretty much none.

There were several references to the circle of magi boon if you chose it.

The bartender references it, Anders references it, Alistair references it, and I think Cullen does too. Good times.

My warrior playthrough is my Dalish elf, and so far no mention of the hero of Ferelden has suggested she was Dalish, and I'm in Act 2.

Well it had the least in Origins so I suppose it's fitting.

Merrill talks about the Dalish Warden. The ambient dialogue of the elves around the camp mention "Mahariel," too. But yes, Merrill talks about it quite a lot, as her personal quest is entirely related to the eluvian that wrecked the Dalish Warden and Tamlen up.

Well, true.  THough I didn't notice the mentioning of the Warden specifically.  What is Mahariel? Was that the Dalish last name?

I imported my Surana Warden into DA2. Besides Vukodlak's mention that Anders references the Hero of Ferelden being a mage, there's also King Alistair's confrontation with Knight-Commander Meredith, who references the failed Magi boon the Chantry said no to.

"During a conversation with Bethany Hawke, after getting the will, she says "Mother watched her cousin lose so many children to the circle, it was her worst fear." (to lose her own children) "And then one of them became the hero of Ferelden and saved us all!" From this we can conclude that The Warden was their second cousin only if the Warden was from the Human Mage Origin" (Dragon Age Wiki).
