This is something I am just throwing out here for the experts to comment. Merill can learn blood magic from the Dalish Pariah tree and conceivably have a 1:3 hp to mp converstion ratio (using Blood of the First and Solidarity).  All the spells in the entropy line and most from the spirit and arcane line are not damage based and hopefully do not depend on the magic attribute. (please correct me if I am wrong).  She usually has an armor of 40% with rock armor so along with that large health pool and arcane fortress she can be very survivable as well.

Obviously she won't be able to carry any staff with a magic requirement with this build, but I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks considering that she is fixed with her companion armor.

What do you folks think ?

Yeah, her damage will be laughable, but I don't think that's the point of his build. Lots of CC and utility, not to mention survivability so you don't have to babysit her. I like it. Give it a shot and give us some feedback.

Best defense is a good offense or something like that?

You won't need to cast much if you end up plowing through corpses and the HP cost isn't that prohibitive if you also stack on blood magic gear. Most things will die quickly on any given difficulty except some bosses so stacking con seems wasteful. A mix of magic/con would be ideal seeing how staves are pivotal for large increases in damage.

ok, I tried this out and all I can say is that it is extremely boring. In some fights (I am playing on hard and I am just a casual player), where she is the only one who survives, she couldn't kill the goons and the goons couldn't kill her either.

I generally do a half/half split with magic and con and it works out fairly well. Willpower doesn't do anything at all but increase mana and if you get mana from con there's no reason to invest in willpower. All my mages have some sort of blood mana production keeps the nasty assassins and high dragons away. Now my rogues are the ones that get 1 shot.

Yeah, no need to completely ignore Magic for Merrill. Just put any point you would have put in Willpower into Constitution instead. It's actually pretty darn effective, I've found, particularly when you factor in higher end items that add to the health:mana ratio. Her passive +20 health regen and health stealing from Wrath of the Ehlven will keep her up quite well. And since she isn't actually using her mana, she can pick up some extra sustainables. Wrath and Blood together use what, 60 or 70 percent of her mana pool? Not a lot of wiggle room left but you can definitely get squeeze some more out of that.

I think high damage--to be able to drop assassins and mages quickly--is a lot more important than having a tough mage in the back lines. Unless maybe you're planning on tanking with her or something.

hi folks, after further tinkering, I agree with all of you. She's pretty much unkillable with everything into constitution, but she can't kill anyone else either. The best is to treat constitution like willpower and invest roughly the same amount.

I really wish she had the Creation line open so that I could take heal on her. :)
