Maybe I missed something, but I can't find any reference in the manual or codex entries on gameplay about what I'm seeing.
After hitting around 15th level as a rogue, I noticed the crossed swords target icon would flash to a shield with an X on it on almost every strike and I can't figure out what it means. It seems to happen most often when I have one of the Specialist tree sustained talents active (Speed, Precision, Power).
Anyone know what it means?

I believe that is to tell you that target is immune to crits, or flanking or this or that. I've noticed targets with that pop up I usually cannot get criticals against them at all.
Usually I'll notice that symbol pop up and flash white (as their healthbars usually do when I crit them) instead of seeing the multitude of criticals on their healthbar. I'm pretty sure that is what the icon means, I hope that helps!

Same thing here. When I jave one of the combat modes (speed, precision, power) enabled, the little shield symbol flashes with every strike at every enemy.
It also started around level 14 or 15. (maybe it has something to do with taking the last ability in that tree?))
...starting to think it might be a bug...
Can anyone varify this?

The shield means that target is immune to whatever effect you used on it. This could be certain elemental damage (may only apply to nightmare), or different status effects like stun or freeze.

I know what the shield is normally supposed to mean....
but as I said, it only happens when using one of the specialist modes and it happens on every strike at every type of enemy on normal difficulty.
