"All great works of fiction are based in reality"
I can't recall who or if anyone was ever quoted as saying this, yet it stands to a concept found in most great works of fiction. In order to engage a audience into a world so unlike thier own you must create real world concepts for them to connect with. Emotive themes are most often used in this. However, in dragon age I cannot help but feel on a marginal level we as players are being put through a test of morality. Dr. Kolberg is a famous behaviorist well known for developing MRT (moral reasoning theory), and while elements of DA:Origins and DA2 most certainly are ment as simply entertainment mediums, there are strong overtones of the "Heinz Dilemma" (look it up) on a grand scale. In additon to that I cannot help but see strong contrasting parallels between the Dragon Age universe and that of our own. Corruption is a loaded word, you get a certain response when people say something has been corrupted. Much like darkspawn had become what they are becasue of greed and the lust for power, the same can be said for the less savory individuals in our own society. Second, the Qunari represent a different ideaological view counter to that of humans, mages, and dwarves in which each possess subltey different view points, yet qunari stand apart due to thier "honor code" if you will. They seek to rid themselves internally from outside influence while allowing room to understand yet not undertake those influences. Not so unlike Asian and even Muslim ideals. Lastly, just for the sake of time as I have many more, this whole world in conflict theme particularly stands out. Thedas is on the brink of world war and crisis within and outiside of its respective cultures. Ring a bell? Perhaps, in theory, these choices you make in game are more than what they seem. They are ment to test moral reasoning taken seriously or not. The more amoral will not care and that is fine, but does anyone else care to elaborate on this?
P.S. to bioware, hell of a cliff-hanger. I knew when the title was announced that this would just be a "table setter", but I would have liked a full ten years instead of six which was dredged with a incredible amount of foreshadowing. Warden + Hawke = i'm not telling, but touche. I had a penchant to where you're going, and i like the foresight. Keep in mind that patience is not a strong suit to many.
