Yeah, the ending was extremely weak.

I thought they should have switched the 2nd and 3rd Acts... i.e. the not-so-epic local conflict between the Templars and Mages should have been in the middle (and then you could have one or the other group as your allies later), and a massive invasion by the Qunari should have been at the end.

Weird. Really feel like Bioware dropped the ball on this one (they essentially did the same thing in ME2... the overall plot just sort of fell short, despite the great characters/interactions/small plots/etc.).

I couldn't disagree more.

The chaos is the reason behind the urgency of the ending scene with Cassandra, and is the entire cause of Varric telling the story which you just played through. I consider those at least in game references to its existence.

That's precisely my point. In-game references to something I can't see or participate in (other than the cheesy battle with the Sith Lord at the end ;D ) don't really make for much of a story.

Solid point. Agree to disagree until we see blood in the streets?

Pretty much. If the ending had shown a few scenes of mages fighting templars or soldier in different parts of Thedas, then it would have shown us just how widespread and bloody this conflict has become. There would have been some evidence for Cassandra's fears about the state of Thedas and how vital Hawke is to resolve the current crisis.

I disagree. It was by that point that I just decided that "you know what, being good sucks enough in real life, I don't want to have to keep doing this in games too". I don't WANT a Hawke whose every good action ends in ignomany, failure and suck.

As sad and as desperate as it may seem, I just could not get into the constant failures of Hawke at every single turn. If a few things like this had happened I would have been horrified and upset, but the fact that there was seemingly a way of making good intentions bad around every rock, tree stump and corner in Kirkwall finally made me just give up and say "sod it all". I don't mind having bad things happen, heck I don't mind a lot of bad things happen but it seems to be everywhere, and I could not believe it, nor did I want to play through it.

I don't like seeing people who are trying to help fail in real life, so why the hell would I want to see that in my games?
