What? how can something named "Tome of The Slumbering Elders" be junk?!
Man I feel like a chick whose boyfriend just proposed to her with a freakin' jelly bracelet.

Marethari: Here, This book contains powerfull magic..
Hawke: *leaves house, throws it away*
>_>
Unfunny comment aside, It might be it was intended to something initilly but decided to cut it?

Just want to add that I decided to support Merril in the Eluvian thing because of that quest and its reward. I was a little bit skeptic about the whole thing because it involved blood magic... but... you know, Marethary is an old fool.
She has advised me to tranquil Fenriel and after I manage to save the guy where she had failed, she gives me in return some junk of a book. Marethary is ready for retirement.

Yeah, this is either a bug, or a total game design brain fart.

What's the answer to this one, Bioware?

Did anyone else put it in their storage chest, just in case a patch fixes it?

I was expecting a codex entry or something from it. But it seems to do nothing.

I actually searched via console for the tome, i got it as a generic item that was listed under potions. My guess is that it was intended to give you the attribute points you had otherwise gained by killing Feynriel. The fact that is directly moves to the junk section and doesn´t do anything is certainly a bug.

This really was frustrating. The 'evil' option here is leaps and bounds more rewarding. To make matters worse, the tome vanished from my inventory for some reason upon transitioning to Act 3, so I couldn't even sell the darn thing.
At this point I suppose all there is to do is hope that there's some big payoff in the next game or a DLC pack for having saved the half-breed bugger instead of letting him go all "unstoppable abomination" on the world.

Well, people did complain that in Mass Effect the Renegade options weren't as good as the Paragon options...

Yes, but in a lot of cases that was because the renegade option was "don't do the quest at all, and be snarky about turning it down" so the lack of reward made a litle more sense from a game mechanics standpoint (no reward for no work). In this case you're actually doing more for less, which just never feels right, you know.

I'm putting it in my chest for now.

I may be wrong, but didn't she say "this book might sell for a fair price" or something of that nature?
Even so it's a terrible reward.

No, she said it was priceless.

Well now, that must be a reason that ppl turn to blood magic... But yes.. 50 silver worth of junk is a bit of a downer compared to the 6 attribute or 1 ability.. the potion/book cost for that is like 72g or 21g and thats if there was even a chance to buy that many books. But thats the same deal as in Dragon Age 1, no? let the arls son become the succubus flesh suit and you got a ability point.

Might as well give us some "Slaver Rope" as a reward

Atrribute points and ability points is where the real power is in this game too, leveling up means nothing in itself because enemies scale in power with you. So leveling up can be seen as a detriment in some situations even.
But if you can get attribute points and ability points without leveling up that makes you more powerful in accordance with the game, in a way breaking the scaling ever so slightly.
And two levels worth of attribute points is thus insanely good.
I still saved Feynriel and put the terrible quest reward in my storage chest for safe keeping just incase. Who knows, maybe it will lead to a side quest in Dragon Age 3 where I get a great quest reward from Feynriel or someone relating to him.
But it was annoying and I felt a little dissapointed none the less.

It made no sense that the book was labelled as junk. At the least, I was hoping that I could read it and gain some attribute or spell points, but nada. Either its a bug or an intentional misdirection, but I was a bit sad in the end that for all that work, I got a book worth 70 silver only. Still, I won't be dealing with the demon, attribute points or not.

Yeah, something's messed up about that. It shouldn't be junk. You don't get an ancient book of powerful magic and put it into the junk bin. Same with the evil tomes.

But it's priceless!!! Something to hug & treasure along with all those torn trousers, stained empty bottles & moth eaten scarves.
