I think the issue here is due to a larger issue in the game, the same reason why the entire junk category is worthless. The sellback price for items is just stupid. I've never seen a game with sellback as low as DA2's. You're lucky if you get 10% of an item's initial cost. For instance the cold-blooded staff costs 114 gold, and sells back for less than 10. What the **** is that?! Obviously things shouldn't sell for near their initial cost because then there'd be no reason not to buy everything you can, but they also shouldn't sell for virtually nothing. If they fixed this so stuff sells back at a reasonable price, this tome would be worth quite a few gold. Nowhere near as good as the evil option, but at least there'd be a viable reward for being good.

You know, I wouldn't mind if they just "streamlined" the entire junk category out altogether. These items have absolutely no use whatsoever. They're don't add any RPing flavor to make up for being useless. They sell for next to nothing, so even their value as vendor-trash is non-existent.
Honestly, just get rid of all these moth-eaten scarves, crow feathers, coral fragments, etc. and only leave the vendor trash that's actually worth sacrificing the spaces in your inventory.

I strongly disagree. This game has a harsher economy than 95% of RPG's. All of Act I, which is the largest one, only produces about 115 gold if you do ever quest possible. Enough for ONE high end item, sometimes not even that if it's something like the Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness. If you do every quest you can, always taking the road with most money, at the end of the game there's still a bunch of great items in the shops you can't afford.

To be fair, one of the Band of Three codexes mentions a similar situation with a similar and reasonably explained outcome. Here's the exert I'm referring to:
A recent trove was uncovered. This one was big, perhaps the archon's visitation chambers.
And a flood of tomes is on the market. Even the simple fences know something is amiss - they've raised their prices at the frenzy of collectors. One said he sold a copy of the Fell Grimoire! I doubt he would lie; how could he know that tome is a mere legend?
