Greetings.
I read somewhere there is a way to join the Deep Roads Expedition without investing 50 sovereigns. Is it possible?

Thank You.

Nope takes 50g. If you dont have it there is a Dwarf who will give you the 50g but wants 100g in return.

you can deny the dwarf the 100g of course. You'll fight him later when he ambushes you but he's no big deal.

If he appears with the offer does that mean the game thinks you aren't going to get to 50g by yourself? I'm at about 35g but I don't think I've got many quests left.

You can get 50g by yourself. The dwarf is Bioware's "plot-saver". So that the player doesn't finish all his quests, sees he doesn't have the money and -has- to restart the game in order to go forward.

Well I have around 70g before I went to give 50g to the Deap Roads. I am now ready to actually go into the Deap Roads, and I am already back at 46g.

I did use the more coin stuff, and didn't buy any weapons or armors or anything. And playing on normal.

Damn, I've got no more quests and only 38g. Shouldn't have bought that tome of technique. Too bad he can't just lend me 12g and I pay him back 24g.

If you can fight him later, sound like he's just a free 50g. I'll be sure to take him up on that offer.

Are you saying there is a total of about 116g available in Act 1?  Based on what I've accumulated the max I would have had would be around 65g.

I'm not sure how or why the other dwarf offers. He only offered to give me money LONG after I had plenty but was just running around doing sidequests for the hell of it.

To be fair you don't actually 'pay' the dwarf anything. When he shows up against hes trying to get 'more' money out of you, as the expedition made your whole family rich you had already payed him off.

He offers it either way, I take it so I can use my 50g I saved up for more useful thing, like skill tomes or that nice ring at the black Emporium with all them stats and stuff. 100g sounds about right for Act 1 though. I tend to spend it all on potions and bonus talent points though.

Anyways point is you can take the dwarf's offer, and it wont cost you anything. Though he'll try to extort you for more in Act 2, which I like, cause I just gut the little ****.

Unless you purchased a lot of other items too, then you have not found anywhere near all the quests.
I purchased the tome of technique, currently have over 63g and have quite a few quests left to do.

You have to go looking for some of the quests ;)

Yeah there is an absolute ton of stuff to do in Act1. First time in (and I missed 1-2 things) I was lvl 11, almost 12, before I started the expedition and had bought a bunch of stuff. I love just how much stuff there is to do all over the place. Was like 19 hours almost 20 when I started the expedition. Pretty solid for a first act.

Kinda wonder which quests would also function normally in Act 2. I know some are the kinda thing that chains over the course of the game so I'm a bit hesitant to leave anything behind before moving into the deep roads thing.

You know I think that you should do the quests given for the simple reason that you need the levels on your characters and you need to meet more characters so that you have a reasonable choice platform. Otherwise you will be doing a great deal of dying and feel frustrated.
Just saying......................

lol, really.

I'm around 60g, but I'll use him instead.  I'm trying to play a good role, but screw it.  Where's this guy located?

Not 100% true.  I had over 90G and I got the offer.

I think what he meant is that some people may have bought too much equipment/visited the "Blooming Rose" a bit too often and then would have to restart the game because of that, not that he's supposed to be a short cut. It's probably not even tied to a condition when he shows up. Maybe it's just supposed to be a clever business opportunity.

Eventually you only get back whatever you paid right? I paid 50G and got 50G back. If you paid nothing and killed the dwarf, you don't still get 50G at the end of ACT 1 right?

Damn, I must have missed a lot, I thought I had been reasonably thorough but I admit I certainly didn't go to scratch and peck levels.

EDIT: Is there a pretty extensive list of quests per levels available yet?

Unless of course that part seems to fail or is bugged because I am in the boat of not having enough gold and even though I accepted the dwarfs offer of him investing for me I still get rejected by Varrics brother.  It actually still shows me needing to get him maps as well.  I think I'm screwed.
