Oh, it's more than a tank mage. It's a God.

I'm SOOOOOO glad that there are no enemy NPC arcane warriors. You're almost required to be a templar to take one of those down.

I'm playing the game now with regular characters and it feels like a brand new game. AW is a broken class. It doesn't really matter since it's a single player game, but still it's just sickeningly powerful. It also taught me to disable all DLC items (especially Blood Dragon armor) to avoid ruining the game.

Also,
"I am Kheila Mentia Khaine, a god among the immortal."
He was obviously a Arcane Warrior. Makes sense now, he has blood dripping out of one hand (meaning his second specialization was blood magic) and a flaming sword (meaning he has a 3 slot great sword, probably tier 1000 with epic flame runes in it, worked on by the almighty Sandal himself. Hidden paragon and Orzammar's one true king and champion)
It's all so clear now. Arcane Warriors are Avatars.

Just out of curiosity I'd like to ask how is the AW godly? Tried it while ago on my mage. I put on fullplate threw few spells and got my ass handed to me in the back alleys of Denerim. I had 1 point in the AW line if I remember right and it didn't seem that godly to me or does this change with level and/or equipment?
What level were you and what spells did you take? Your experience will depend on that, and also on how much willpower and magic you have.

Spells I recommend, are haste, blizzard, blood wound, curse of mortality, this one curse that makes all attacks against the target criticals, heal, and make sure you have good armor and a good weapon.
Really though I just recommend getting haste and equipping yourself correctly. In fact, if you have a lot of willpower and then take haste you seem to dominate everything. I love haste, haste and then use a giant two handed sword. You dominate! Everything! Just make sure the sword kicks ass. Really, I only like haste because it makes me attack faster, the faster I attack the more fatalities I get!
WIN WIN!

Ah, you took spirit healer as your other specialization. Well, I don't play mages without blood magic as blood wound is a god send.

1 point in blizzard for knocking down archers and mages while you deal with the rest first or? O.o

Ok, I wasn't really interested in the "tank mage" build just wanted to know what the fuzz was all about. I like the classic or even stereotypical cloth mage that is fragile but has powerfull spells.
I'm the type of mage that prefers to stab things.

It's basically the one thing DnD does very right, making sure mages cannot wear armor and use a sword well. The AW to me feels like something tossed in for all those little anime & JRPG fans who want to do everything. It's really quite a stupid unbalanced concept. If multiplayer existed, it would need to be nerfed badly or removed entirely to balance the game.

They create a caster class, claim its "squishy" then proceed in giving them self buffs for defense and avoidance as well as high damage until they are superior to other classes.
Then they wonder why we complain.
Its an Easy Mode class for people who don't want to use tactics.

Throw Dispel Magic or Mana Clash => Arcane Warrior RIP
Is it really that hard to figure out the tactic against particular class ?
All self buffers which relay on sustained buffs have exactly the same weaknesses in every game, video or paper.
Dispel their buffs and you will end up with squishy thing which neither can hit well nor cast anything ( since his mana will be all gone after throwing all buffs )

Don't make me laugh. Even if the monster bothered to dispel, you are still wearing plate and can still cast.

Actually... there is this one dude... who drops that Arcane Warrior sword, in the Frostback Mountains temple.
