Alright - so - I like the changes to make combat more "sexy" HOWEVER....
1. I can't remove my weapon, ever... WHAT? Seriously.... How does one sit down with that thing on their back? I remember playing a MOD for DA:O where I didnt like the weapons provided (I was AW and didnt have an appropriate sword yet...) so I played through several combats without a weapon just casting spells - you remember how mages used to be able to cast with both hands and use magic and stuff without a stick in their hand? Sheesh... (yes I assume its because they tied damage to staff damage but ... bleh) Magic comes from within, not some crude staff in mages hand (all the time)....
2. Stealh - they completely changed the stealth dynamic - no more sneaky rogues scouting or sneaking to targets in combat and attacking (unless you do it really fast) .... part of me says: yeah.... its hard to imagine a rogue being "unseen" in combat by everyone (but thats why we have opposing spot checks) but part of me wants it to be like every other implimented RPG/D&D game thusfar and have the rogue be able to sneak around. I imagine this will impact soloing for rogue A LOT.
3. Soloing.... seems impossible in this game given bosses and the need to "combo" them now... I'd like to hear from pro Nightmare people.... I'm not sure htis is a bad thing.... I guess I'd like to see some solo quests but all in all, if Im exploring and Im smart I bring friends with me to watch my back. This comes down to a playstlye issue - Its hard to design a game that is soloable and also group play challanging. I think they got the group play dynamics down right.
4. No other races.
5. What happened to the elves? Why do they look like Gobby now? Did JK Rowling do set design?
/rant off
Love you BioWare but... these are my griping points of the Day.
Thanks.

No, he's right. This is the "gameplay" forum as well as strategy.
But anyways, I see where you come from in most aspects. But overall Dragon Age 2 looks shoddy on their model designs, weapons or not. Half of the time Fenris's hands are inside of his leg. and Merrill's neck pops outside of her clothing when she turns her head.
The game feels very, very rushed. I understand why we have 1 race, and they gave us that reason. Its for a more centered play. Imagine Mass Effect 2 if you could be a different race, it would totally mess with the linear gameplay. They had to base the Champion on a set character, so you have to be a human.
Elves got a remake because in the first game, they just looked like short, skinny humans. Now they look like elves. I don't have a problem with the redesign, looks better.
Stealth is just as good as before if not better. You just have to know how to use it correctly.
And finally, if you want to remove your weapon? Just take it off after every fight. Its not like you can't just go into your inventory before and after ever fight and just take it off to appear like you have no weapon. Why it matters, I don't even know. It's Dragon Age, street urchins have swords now.
Edit: Oh, and on another note. Every single boss in this game is soloable. It just takes time. I solo'd the Arishok last night on Nightmare on my mage (Primal / Force. All I had was chainlightning, stonefist, and petrify). Not only was it just a solo, it was the duel. It's not hard. And then I went on to kill the High Dragon, where everyone died at 50%. So I solo'd half his health and the wave with 2 smaller dragons.

@axrole
Go in game and try to un-equip your weapon.
You can't .. it gives you a base staff.
Preference., but I liked the DAO elves.
Sneak: My point was, if you like to sneak about on recon, you cant do that for an extended time because sneak only lasts for 10-15 seconds... and thanks for telling me Im doing it wrong. Nice... did your parents send you to charm school?

I also like the new elves, they really look like a different race now and not just short, pointy eared humans.
I kinda miss the different Origins you could choose, but I agree that the story fits better now. I just find it very hard not to be anti-mage, since both Hawke's father and sister (and Hawke when playing a mage) are apostate's.
I also miss the fact that you could distrubite all the items amongst all you companions at the same time, instead of only your current party. In Origins I just went back to camp, gave everybody new and better gear and continue on my way. Now you have to change your party multiple ways.

I had to save DA2 and come here to add to my list when I saw:
Not only are they recycling dungeon parts/areas.... but the former entrance to get into the Amnell Home (EP1) is now the entrance to get into the Hidden Lair (EP3)? At least move the entrances around - add a new entrance somewhere?
I'm really looking forward to the Twenty Sided playthrough / review of this game....
EDIT:
Finished the game today... my main objection is the fact that I feel herded through it..... also... I went one step too far on the last quest-chain (last straw) and couldn't go to the gallows to turn in the dragon componant to the merchant before the cutscene - bleh let us activate our own cutscenes by talking to the people, dont make it auto-matic or some of us won't finish everything - and you know there are tons of completionists out there....
Minor complaint: got the champion armor for my mage and now I suddenly have one burly arm? Seriously... couldn't make 3 sets (or even 2) of armor for mage/rogue vs. warrior?
Let me explain, no is too much, let me SUM UP:
I liked the game, it was very entertaining. I liked the new combat moves for the most part, even though sometimes I feel like Im playing a super-hero-human not a DA human..... The story was good. Varric grew on me, although my main team was Isabella, Avaline and Fenris...
Another complain (bring on the flames) was that I felt that there was not a difficulty for me - I started out Hard (which is usually how I play all my games) and got to the Rock Monster - had to lower it to Normal - it was too much kiting and moving all my people around (I would rather just play one character - so my fault there - I know its a team RPG so to speak) and so those battle like that went from fun/exciting/epic to tedious. I tried alternating between Hard and Normal (cause the other battles were too easy on Normal) but it is yet another point that breaks immersion, so I ended up leaving it on Normal towards the end...
Anyway - my opinion of the game and my 2 copper... It was fun. Wish it could be modded to extend play life... I will also say - to whomever is listening - that for some reason, I liked ME2 better than DA2 - even though they have similar layouts... its probably because in ME2 if my team "died" I could mop up wiht Shepard and since DA2 was more of a team game, it was a bit harder.
In both games and many I think the biggest hurdle for RPG goodness is the fact that the dungeons herd you in one direction, you cant go back to places after acts, and places change (in DA2-like entrance points leading to 2 different places) which cuts down on immersion/believability for me.
All in all a good game which I would reccomend to my friends who play such... but not as good as ME2 or KotoR.
All IMHO.... take it with a grain of salt or some other substance...
