I've always enjoyed playing a tank, but I just feel that Hawke is so disadvantaged compared to Aveline (and Fenris?) with her special talents. All three warrior specializations are very much focused on dealing damage, though every spec has some useful talents abilities as well.
Reaver seems to be the best choice for the AoE damaging, if you carefully micromanage so that you constantly are a little wounded and therefore gets the damage bonuses, which, I think, could help a lot when SnS-tanking due to the small amount of threat generated in between taunts.
Then there's Berserker; the extra stamina you get is definitely useful since it takes you a while to kill (and therefore regain stamina on your own).
Last up, templar. Except for Holy Smite and Annulment seems nice. Staggering smite is pretty much useless, since, if I've understood it correctly, stuns reset threat, which obviously sucks for a tank.
Any thoughts?
Specialization for a tank?

I don't remember there being any tank specialties in DAO either.
If you want to be a tank, max the sword & shield tree and defender tree, get taunt from the Warmonger tree, Reaver would probably be your best bet for a specialty, but don't get all of the skills, get the first few.
You could always experiment with these using the skill reset item in the Black Emporium.

The entire champion tree was very good for a tank. Now you've got pretty much the same abilities in the Battlemaster tree. But, yeah, I picked Reaver as my first one, I might stick with Berserker as my second one, for the extra stamina.

I have Reaver right now for my main tank because the first passive ability is good. But I reckon Templar spec is still the optimum choice for tanking. Spell resistance and the ability to shut down skill users/spellcasters.
