So a question, is it not possible to stop Anders from blowing up the Chantry? What happens if you don't help him with his personal mission that leads up to that? Does he still go through with it?

I happened to romance him because he is just too sweet in the begining. He's romance was really well done and tasteful, it really makes you care for him. I believed in his cause and was trying to help mages as much as possible but when he betrays your trust like that I literally broke my heart and went too far. I knew the romance was going to end badly by the way he was acting and although I knew he was up to no good I couldn't bring myself not to help him. In the end when he blew up the chantry I didn't even want to the finish the game, but since I was so fed up with all the mages that were turning to blood magic, even when you try to help them, I decided to help the templars and since Anders wouldn't help me I was forced to kill him for his betrayel,. I couldn't let him go free after that. The scene where Hawke stabs him was unbearable.

I really like Anders character and I wish there were a way to keep him from falling that far, I mean, does Hawke, Champion of Kirkwall really have no influence on him!?

On another note, does anyone think this game tugs on your emotions a little TOO much?

As far as I know you can't stop him from betraying you. And no, I didn't feel emotional at all in this sequel.

It seems that no matter what you do Anders will always blow up the Chantry. There has to be a catalyst to revolution, and he provides that catalyst. Without it there is no reason to choose a side and Kirkwall stays the same.

Since DA2 focuses on Hawke's personal story (life in the city of Kirkwall), it should feel more emotional, I think. Most choices in Act I didn't look much important, so I slipped through them without much thinking .. but from Act II, Bioware writing team really got me 8D ... I had to laugh, cry and shout because some choices were really though.

Well the reason he blows up the Chantry is if you covered for him with the Grand Cleric.

Regardless if help him or not, Anders is still going to blow up the chantry. There is no way around this from what I've seen thus far. Like I said before, there has to be a catalyst and he is the one that provides it. If you're a part of that act is completely up to you...but he IS going to perform his act of revolution / terrorism one way or another.

Evidently he did it at some point when he wasn't with you.

Your distraction makes it easier for him to set things up, but there's nothing that says he can't do it even without you providing a distraction.  Given the fact that he's decided to go so far, the only thing that would keep the charge from being placed at that point is his arrest by the templars.  He'll collect all of the ingredients alone and sneak into the chantry by himself if he must, but he's going to place that charge no matter what.

Anders betrayal really messed me up. Working so hard to help the guy only for have him to screw everything up royally. It was an emotional game and I became fond of all the characters in their own way as I did in Origins. I thought the ending was EPIC and can not wait to see what future DLC or the next game has to offer and where it will take the story. It left so many unanswered questions and from what I heard in dialogue it might pick up with your original Hero of Ferelden and Hawke teaming up. Totally exciting!

This, all the way. He's right, when you think about it. If the Grand Cleric had shown up to mediate things between Meredith and Orsino, they'd just return the city to its status quo. Angering Meredith the point of invoking the Right of Anulment showcases how oppressive she's become and how much the mages are suffering.

tl;dr it shocked me but I love Anders all the way. <3 I was just terrified he was gonna kill himself, from the way he was talking during the Justice quest, and I'm relieved he didn't, ha!

I was angry at this as well. I wanted to flirt with Anders in Origins but couldn't. I am also mad cause I couldn't play with Sir Pounce Alot. Probably the only thing in this game that angered me is there is no way to save Anders from Justice, and there is really no way to have a diverse ending. No matter what you choose in the game, the ending is always the same.

I just wish there was a burly hair man to romance in the game, I hate these twinks!

I am a mage supporter regardless of the class I happen to be playing at the time. Likewise, I accord special respect to the Grey Wardens.

That said, Anders has to die. He is far too much of a liability to the cause. He casts all mages and all those who support them as ruthless murdering terrorists. A living Anders banishes Hawke from the moral high ground accorded her role as a freedom fighter and benevolent Champion of the people of Kirkwall.

I like Anders as a character, and I understand his frustrations and motives, but he is possessed by a corrupted spirit of justice.who does not show any concern for the innocent.

He has to die, and I have to be the one who kills him.

I really enjoyed the game but really came to dislike Anders, thought he was brill in origins, funny, witty etc, But his merging with Justice really messed him up..

he blows up the chantry no matter if you help him or not, i missed his final quest due to going to hand in the dragon fire gland and triggering the final quest too soon, missing a few quests in the bargin, just like in awakenings i might add

I played a mage and fully support the revolution but this just out of line, his action trigger worldwide war as it cause things almost impossible to resolved situation peacefully. I'm dissapointed with Anders in second game he wasn't like in Awakening at all..personality and such...not to mention that homosexual encounter, he's courting on Hawke since Act I.

You're unable to save Grand Cleric anyway even on Sebastian's quest there's option to warn her that storm gonna hit Kirkwall real soon.

Yet another forced plot device that renders Hawke impotent. It's the same as Leandra's death... something horrible happens, and the "Champion" can't do a damn thing to change it. I wouldn't mind this kind of event if you had any possible way around it. This game is just way too much like a JRPG for my tastes... you have almost no impact on the story, and that's what drew me to Bioware in the first place. Taking the option of altering the plot out of the player's hands was a mistake.

*cough* I cried once in the game lol (SPOILER - when Mother died)
Also felt heartbroken when Anders blew up the Chantry, I never ever expected him to do something so drastic. But my Hawke was so madly in love with him that she couldn't kill him. In the end she ran off with him despite what he'd done ... which I still feel a bit stupid about but she'd pretty much lost all her other family, I think by the end she just couldn't bear to let another person she loved die no matter what they'd done. It's a horrible horrible romance, but the impact it had on me is ridiculous so I guess well done to the writers lol.

There is a quest where Anders asks you to go help him find ingredients for a ritual that will separate him and Justice - does everyone get this quest, or is there just the bomb quest (sneak me in?)

Cause I was deeply against blood magic, demons, and was Pro-Circle (as a mage) and I also romanced Anders.

The Judas tells me that he knows I'm against demons - that he knows having Justice in him is wrong - and that he needs my help. One of the ingredients we gather is called "Silas Petra" (or something similar) and it's essentially "salt peter" used in making gunpowder. I knew exactly what he wanted me to do -

Then, Sebastian asks to speak with me - he warns me: "Anders is selfish. He will use you. You are not as important as his goals."

I found it to be quite tragic what he does to my Hawke.
