I'm only a few hours in so far and am playing on Nightmare with a DW rogue. I recently recruited Anders and am a bit bothered by the fact that he's the only effective healer. I don't mind having him around on my first playthrough but I will definitely want to use different party members in my next playthrough. So for all those who have made more progress on Nightmare than I have, do you think having Anders in your party or playing a Sprit Healer is practically a neccessity? Would things be difficult to the point of extreme frustration if you tried to get by without either?

He's far from necessary, he just makes the game a whole lot easier than without, I've been doing a no healer run and it really just comes down to either stocking up on potions or intense micro-management of all characters. There are also grenades you can get that revive companions.

Hawke can rival him as a healer but if you have a non-healer Hawke then yes, you are really going to want Anders. Not sure who decided that but it's kind of silly.

Having him as the only healer in the game asides from Hawke increases his chances to be there during certain events in the game. Anders really seems like the only character who can change certain outcomes.
