Well we are only 3 months in this decade so NOBODY can argue with that.

The only mathematical 'fact' relating to the word 'decade' is that it must be 10 years in length. There is nothing else about the term that means that it is tied to the Gregorian calendar in the manner you suggest. Its relation to the calendar is historical, not mathematical. Not to mention the fact that there was no Gregorian calendar in 0/1 AD

...wanna take a guess as to what historians consider to be the end of the last decade/century/millenium?

We "pedants" have math and history on our side, you have... the clueless masses that wanted to have a big party in 1999 and dance to Prince.

For some reason, this fails to make me feel bad. <_<

"Dragon Age 2 does it right. It’s still an RPG epic, it still takes upwards of 50 hours to finish. It’s still got a deep, complex combat system, and it’s still got a well-defined supporting cast. But it’s also an RPG that wears its mythology proudly, confident in its goal of charting the rise of a complete and utter badass. You."

That's what PC Gamer said, "The Best RPG of this decade", and even gave "Editor's Choice" award to DA II. Well, atleast they were smart enough to write "Nine more years will tell". Exactly, nine more years will tell and I gotta tell you, that's a long time. Long enough for DA 3,4 and 5 to arrive (that's a joke).

What I've seen, fans have different opinions. Come to think of it, I heared DA II has gotten mostly positive reviews (says Wikipedia)

Or is it that fans are just "dumping down" DA II just as DA:O and ME 2 got "dumped down"? Time will tell

PS. Here's the link for PC Gamer's review

PC Gamer is in the rEApers pocket you know...:bandit:

I gotta agree with the OP on DA II being "dumped down". People are whiny, and if DA II would have the same features as DA:O, people would just complain that "You call this a sequal? There nothing new in here". DA II would have been worse if it would have been like DA:O

PC gamer usually gives very lower score no matter what games are. they gave Dead space 2 only 83(?). in my opinion, DS 2 is 1000 time better than this piece of junk. this time I guess that EA gave them some ****ing money to prevent total disaster like we know now. honestly, this game can't be no more than 6 out of 10 seriously.

did this reviewer even play through the game?

Actually, I'm going to agree ... probably the best crpg of the Last decade. I look forward to seeing what Bioware has in store for us in the next.

New Vegas was better than DA2, and it came out this decade.

Laughing pretty hard at the people who think the decade starts at 2011. If that were true, the PC Gamer review would be coming off as snide and ingenuine, which it does not. It's only significant to refer to it as the best RPG of the decade if you include all of the great titles that came out in 2010.

Some people.

I'm waiting to finish the game before writing my review, but based on the First Act, and comparing what's happening in my game to what's happening in my flatmate's?

DA2 is probably the most maturely written, and subtlely complex RPG I have played. My flatmate's game is going quite differently from mine, and his Hawke has a completely different personality and usually says different dialogue even on some occasions despite picking the same options - because she's diplomatic whereas my Hawke is a sarcastic trickster.

The story isn't a cookie cutter Fantasy RPG story either - it's actually original and is carrying a lot of foreshadowing regarding what is going to happen later down the track. I find all the quests seem to loop back in on the plight of Kirkwall and the story that is being told - that of a family and their link to the city of Kirkwall.

I honestly get the feeling now that those who are blind to the strengths of the story because no other RPG I have ever played has tried to capture a proper literary style of storytelling in this manner. They all have a BIG BAD who is threatening the world.

There are too many people who have gotten used to a formula that they are blind to how well written DA2's story actually is.

I'll be going into more detail once I finish the game - but one play through does not seem to be enough to really see how impressive this game actually is.

I strongly recommend you check out Planescape: Torment; while an older game, with an older game engine (released in 1994), it is the single best crpg ever released, and DA2 shares many of its storytelling strengths.  If you appreciate a more intimate story, with excellent writing and a large, fascinating setting, you will find it quite to your liking. (you can currently get it at GOG.com, modified so it runs on current operating systems)

That said, DA2 is a superb game, the likes of which I've not seen since PS:T, and it saddens me that more people are not open to the experience.

Well we're only 1 year into that "decade" and already they are catastrophically wrong. Mass Effect 2 was better. Even Fallout: New Vegas was a better RPG.

RPG-wise DA2 is a hell of a lot better than ME2. Perhaps the same amount of choices story wise, but character wise? Lots of more choices, as with party member interactions and such. I'm not sure I'd say that DA2 is a better game, as such, but  a better RPG? Yes.

While I would disagree, and suggest again that they have a lot in common, I can recognize and appreciate your support for PS:T over anything else - and I am not suggesting this IS as good as Torment, merely one of the best games I've played since. (but, again, one man's art is another man's "WTF?")

Even though I like DA 2 for what it is this review is proof that reviews can be bought. Take a look at other gaming websites and they all "praise" it yet so many fans hate it. EA's deep pockets strike again.

I almost agree with this except I would give DA O a 9 and DA 2 an 8

I had forgotten about PS:T. Thanks. :) Yeah - DA2 is very similar with its focus not being on some epic monster/bad guy but actually focusing on the lead character and his story.

While I do think there are some flaws with DA2, I do think that they are not nearly as disastrous or numerous as some would have us believe. Having read the PC Gamer review, I think they actually are presenting an honest opinion of what they thought of the game. They seem to have also picked up on the fact that DA2 is doing something different and when you drop all the baggage of thinking that an RPG must be the same as all the others, it becomes easier to see DA2 for what it really is rather than what it isn't.

I think that what it is makes for a pretty cool RPG. YMMV as always.
