Hi guys,

Excuse me if this has already been posted I can't find a search function on the forums :(

Every since guildwars with the ranger/mesmer classes I've always loved the idea of crippling/interupting/disabling foes and I try to have a character like that in all my party based RPG, but in DA2 I've not been able to get enough juice outta the entropy tree.

Although the spells are useful, it feels like for the number of enemies I encounter and the length of cooldowns and spell costs, maybe my talent points would be better invested elsewhere for pure DPS or using other trees with similar disabling effects (brittle etc) and setting up CCC's.

So talk to me like I'm a complete nub, whats the best way to maximise the effectiveness of this tree?

Well, I don't have any experience with this tree yet, but I'm trying to build a mage around it atm. I plan on going Death Clound and Sleep on groups, while using the rest on strong single target enemies. I'll back it up with spirit for added damage on Horror. For AoE damage there's still the forcemage fist and blood magic.

I just don't know yet what my mana management will look like. Probably I'll get enough stamina for gear, zero constitution despite bloodmage spec and the rest in magic. Then I can start wasting my mana and switch to BM when it's gone. At least that's the plan. I don't feel comfortable wasting all the stamina on gear alone.

I haven't finished the game yet either, but I know how you feel about the entropy tree. The nerdy roleplayer in me wants to be maining death (entropy) magic and blood magic, but you just don't get the same BAM!!! out of it that you do with elemental/primal (or any of the really effective and fun talent set-ups). My solution, is if you have the black market (or whatever it is called, srsly too lazy to turn around and unpause my game to look at the map), then just stock up on maker's breath (they sell for about a gold) and respec for boss fights if you need it. That way, you can run around lol'ing as you firestorm and chain lightning everything, but when you really need to make sure that boss is slowed, getting critted, and not critting your tank, then respec to the Entropy tree. Sometime in the early to mid teens, you should probably have enough points to grab what you want out of a "fun" tree and still grab some of what you want out of Entropy.

Not sure if I helped you at all, but that is how I'm running. Cheers.

Meh, got the same problem here with entrophy tree. Wana play it, but it's just too damn useless... Also I somehow gota pickup some healing stuff again, since I can't stand Anders, so between creation and some dps talents, I just can't get around to get anything out of entrophy... Blood magic is waaay too fun for that anyhow :P

The whole tree is underwhelming and not very useful at all. The hex durations are pathetic and the cooldowns are even worse. Death cloud is the same with low duration and long cooldowns, with a high mana cost to boot. Sleep is great if you can get your retarded companions to not wake everyone up. And horror is only good for getting away from something.

Mages are a disaster in DA2. I recommend playing a warrior or rogue instead.

Obviously haven't tried spirit healer/blood mage. +10 constitution and +100 health regen make you invincible.

Trying it out. The idea is that on nightmare the guys are tougher so you need to soften them up with hexes. On other levels its easer to just kill them than soften them up. Still I guess you can make anything work.

I noticed that sleep seems to cause friendly fire despite the documentation saying otherwise? Is this a right?!?! Sleep was a big part of the attraction of the tree.

Maybe I will indulge myself with another Maker's sigh.

Pity I liked having Hawk as an Entropy / Blood mage for story immersion Posted Image

You should only use the single-target talents in the tree (Hex of Torment, Misdirection Hex, Horror) because you have access to other excellent AOE attacks/CCs as a Mage (Chain Lightning, Tempest, Hemorrhage and Pull of the Abyss are my faves).

THe single-target CCs in Entropy are meant to combine with other single-target talents for near permanent shutdowns on bosses. I had Despair + Shackling Hex + Desiccate + Winter's Blast against the Arishok. He was never able to come near me before he died. Very painfully I might add.

For even better results, take 2 Mages both with Horror. I had Merrill with me and with both have Horror and Desiccate. Perfect permanent shutdown on any enemy Rogue/Mage.

One thing to remember is not to use Horror on enemies made of Stone/Metal. It doesn't work. Otherwise it works on High Dragon, Orsino, every organic boss except Meredith (who seem to have near perfect immunity to all magic, bah).

Even when you can't achieve permanent shutdown, Horror is useful for interrupting enemies from using their special attacks/drinking potions. If you time it right it can shorten the fight drastically.

Overall I'm quite happy with my Entropy powers. I think every Mage in your party should have Horror at the very least.

Upgraded Horror is really the best reason to dip into Entropy. Everything else is decent, but in reality your skill points are unfortunately better used elsewhere.

I was upset that Entropy involved no cross-class combos, and the Sleep area of effect is much more tame in this game. Horror does sound like a good idea, though.

Hex of Torment + Mark of Doom + Dessicate + Annhilate = 20k+ damage.
