Honestly there's no one in this group I find outright annoying the way I did Morrigan or Lilliana.

Probably my least favorite is Merril, because her attitude (especially towards blood magic) is so naive it sometimes feels false. But other times she's so damn cute I can't quite hate her.

Carver can be a bit of a jealous little brother, but it's works for the story, and makes sense in terms of character, so it didn't bother me.

Even though I played a mage, my favorite characters were Aveline and Fenris, mostly because it was so fun fighting with Fenris, and getting Avaline to lighten up and see my side. I liked Aveline so much by the end of the game I have a hard time even imagining how anyone else could feel differently.

gotta say anders, he was probably among the best of the DA characters in Awakening but now he has no humor, a monotone, and doesnt shut up about mage opression (the carver anders remark kinda sums it up).

Also ive noticed that alot of people arnt happy with the 180 his sexuality turned in DA2, to be honest i dont care if hes gay/bi (actually hes not bi bioware just used subjective sexuality so that players can have a chance to romance the romance..able characters) what bothers me is how they did it which was just bad writing. in DA II he goes from being a bit of a womanizer who wants a wife and several mistresses to  just randomly turning out to be gay if ur playing as a male there is no explination other than he had a relationship to escape templar opression (who didnt see that coming a mile away).  if your gonna write anders as being gay at least come up with some reason as to the change from Awakening.
from a buisness standpoint i get that bioware wanted people to romance who they wanted but the subjective sexuality seemed to diminish their characterization

I can't believe some people are choosing Varric as their least favorite party member, He is far and away the best thing about DA2

I like the fact that there isn't a character I consider to be a total loss in this game, and the fact that it's impossible to make every character happy has actually encouraged me to replay the game several times and come up with new favorite core groups each time. Depending on what kind of Hawke I'm playing, different characters have really shown some surprising classic moments, especially Carver and Fenris. So far Isabella is the one that comes dangerously close to wearing out her welcome, but she does have some redeeming qualities (and I'm don't mean the T&A).

I dislike Isabella

The whole "pirate ****" thing is funny for a while, but I usually get rid of her in the middle of the story, if you know what I mean, because she deserved it for what she did and caused.

Anders, hands down. A total slave to his twisted ideals - he doesn't even know what he believes. "Mages good, Templars bad" is the summary of his belief system. The only time he ever calls out a fellow mage is when they're guilty of a crime he has already flagrantly committed: absorbing a spirit and becoming an abomination.

He's quick to criticize Merrill for her fraternizing with demons, while he has hosted one this entire time. Justice became a spirit of Vengeance inside Anders - essentially a Rage demon with focus. Where Anders, an abomination, gets off criticizing a potential abomination like Merrill, I do not know.

Let's not forget the climax of the game, where he fells the Chantry, worshippers and all. This action is despicable enough, but his reasoning for it is off-the-charts insane (and proof positive that the demon in him has eaten away his soul). "I've removed any room for compromise, because there is no compromise". He's firm in his beliefs, sure, but what did he accomplish here? He reinforced the beliefs of every Templar who's ever looked on a mage with suspicion. He brought shame and eventual doom to mages everywhere by justifying the centuries of oppression that mages have withstood peacefully. One could say that change would never occur if such drastic action were not taken, but now we'll never know. Every heart and mind that came to accept mages over the years will once again fall to fear and suspicion, and for good reason. If the best and most noble of mages like Anders and Orsino are capable of such vile atrocities, what hope does the average mage have?

Anders has at best created a world where every mage will be Tranquilized (or killed) at birth. At worst, he's thrown the world into a frothing chaos from which only mages will emerge unscathed, a new Tevinter Imperium. Anders was never a freedom fighter - he practically rejoices at the possibility of selling Fenris back into slavery. He's a mage supremacist who deserves whatever negative fate the player chooses to install him into.

...and that was my Anders rant. more to come?

Merrill had to be the most stubborn, "I'm right and everyone else is so wrong!" character. And it led to the destruction of her clan. All that for a mirror that doesn't work anyways. Good job, idiot.

Carver. What a douche.

I took the easy cop-out there because I didn't want to choose any of the main companions as my least favorite. "New" Anders would probably be a close second because he just won't shut up about the mages. He talks about mages and their plight more than Isabela talks about sex.

That pretty much sums it up.

Anders.

Nobody whines as much as he does. Except maybe Carver. I bring him because he's the healer and I put him in with Aveline and Varric and all the banter between them boils down to "Shut up Anders."

I never take Merril anywhere. Too annoying and naive...

Anders is interesting, but his development isn't endearing him to me. I do find it believable, but I was pretty mad when Bethany got taken to the Circle because she was my fave mage to use...

My least favourite party members are Anders and Merrill, but especially Anders given how good he was in Awakening. His "merge" with Justice (who wasn't much good as a character anyway) combined with spectaculary crap writing by a staffer (who shall remain unnamed, but you know who it is) has turned him into a complete yaoi fanfic berk. I can't coherently describe how angry and disappointed I am with the change so I shall boil it down to this:

Awakening Anders: Pretty cool guy, eh runs from templars and doesn't afraid of anything. Good party banter.

DA2 Anders: "HURR ALL MAGES MUST BE FREE DURR". Blows up Grand Cleric Elthina. Justifiably Murderknifed. If I had an option of not having him in the party at all, I would take it.

Anders, because it was not Anders.

I miss “All I want is a pretty girl, a decent meal, and the right to shoot lightning at fools.”
