I didn't really like Fenris, Anders, or Carver. Fenris looked and acted like someone who belonged in a Final Fantasy game and Anders was obsessed and lost his humor. Carver was just a whiner.

I didn't use Isabela and judging from the responses here I guess I didn't miss much. I wound up doing her first mission for the cargo, but told her contact to shove off at the end of it. Then she tried to convince my Hawk that it was critical to do her mission rather than save the city, so I told her to ****** off and she left for good.

I'm liking Aveline, Varric, and Merrill.

Shameful thing is that I don't think any characters really pull off being, ah, caustic without being annoying at the same time. Morrigan, Sten, and to a lesser degree Oghren were all good at being prickly without being emo.

It started with Carver, but that changed by Act II... and definitely by Act III.... my least fav would be Merrill.... almost at complete rivlary... I just couln't agree with her choices, and playing a mage, we definitely disagreed along the magical route

Hawke...he's such an awful companion, his party banter usually consist of one sentence while the other companions have tons of dialogue. Not only that I think he has the worst voice out of all the characters in the game, even the NPCs, I don't even understand why they added this character to the game anymore. Wish I can just remove him and run around with Ander, Varric, Isabella and Merrill.

Anders wouldn't be my choice for least favorite if it wasn't for the whole ****storm at the end. Despite his actions, didn't kill him because it didn't make sense for my character to do so, also I thought he would be my only healer. If I had known Id get Bethany back, I would definitely have considered it.

Also didn't really like Aveline either since it always seemed like I would unintentionally ****** her off. The whole "selling Wesly's shield" thing bugged me as well.

Yah, that is pretty weird, especially since Wesly shield's still sitting in my stash at the time. Definately a wtf moment for me.

I think Aveline and especially Sebastian were the worst. They utterly lack distinguishing characteristics. The most memorable Aveline parts I can recall were the comic relief from her Act II quest. I don't really remember Sebastian at all apart from when he freaked out and started reciting the chant during endgame.

Anders is by far the best-developed character. I want to hear more about his story, though I doubt I'll get much because the player could have killed him already. Merrill is also interesting, but I was disappointed that the motivations for her actions weren't clearer.

Fenris really got on my nerves, followed by Carver. I was a mage though, so maybe I'm biased.

Anders. Ceaseless complaining about the plight of the mages grated on me. And then after everything he did, I had to keep him around because he was my only healer.

this. after bethany left, he was my only healer.
so annoying.

i never had to deal with Carver. douchebag went and got himself killed for no reason at all.
they say "he gave his life to save us" but in truth...no he didn't, he didn't help us at all, he just went and said "HEY KILL ME, I"LL AFFECT THE STORYLINE OTHERWISE"

I've got to admit, I love all of the characters in this game. I love BioWare for writing them the way they did because more so than any past attempt by BioWare they've got together a bunch of people with wildly different views, which can be great fun when you pair them together, Avelline and Isabela as an example.

I'd be willing to bet that as this thread grows it'll be very hard to pick out a universally weak character.

As for myself, if I was forced to pick the one I hated the most, which is pretty hard, I'd have to say Anders, but only because he was the only healer. I like to mix up my party every now and then and I ended up doing the end of Act 2 on my first play through with just myself as a dual wield rogue, Merill setup for Primal AOE, Varric and Avelline. Not the easiest way to take on that mission.

Speaking of Avelline, she'd be the runner up for most hated, again because she's the only tanky character I've had, (Don't ask me how I missed Fenris that first play.) and with the exception of her character quests she can be a bit dull. Unlike Anders though, she's a great foil for Isabela or Merrill.

Anders isn't quite the same mage comedian he was back in DA:A though I still like having him around for old time sake.

Isabela, I can't really say too much as I've only started using her over Varric. Mostly to prevent her from leaving my party.

Fenris conjures up images of screaming fangirls for some strange reason.. Other then that I don't have much of an opinion of him as I haven't used him too much.

Bethany is the supportive sibling. She and I tend to agree on a lot of matters which makes things a lot easier. And requires I try my best to keep her alive but out of the circle.

Aveline is my bread and butter companion. I let her do all the tanking and she lets me fight crime by moonlight.

Sebastian, I'm really wishing this guy was in the chantry when Ander's dropped the bomb. Who would have thought a brother of the chantry could know nothing but revange and declorations of war.

Varric and Bianca are just awesome.

Merrill, I feel bad in a way for wanting Merrill to compleate the Eluvian partly because I was hoping for an option to use it. As a character she is naive and clueless, just the same I just want to hug her, tell her to stop slitting her wrists for magic and offer her a nice room in my mansion to live in.

And Carver. I *Cough* liked *Cough* Carver so much I named the dog after him, after the ogre killed him. I'll likely take Carver to the deep roads on my next mage play through and send him on his merry way to the gray wardens. The bright side, he'll be able to make a name for himself by not killing darkspawn due to the lack of future blights and he'll die at around the age of 50 which means I'll still out live him.

Or I could just let him die which would likely get me a commendation from the Gray Wardens.

This this this.

I was all excited when I saw Anders in DA2, but his personality shifted so much, which is sort of understandable.  Varric's personality is basically Anders in Awakening.

All you anders nay-sayers are just silly. Romance him. There's all kinds of depth to him! Nom nom steamy kisses nom nom.

The sweet and silly Anders is still there, pair him with Isabella and Varic once and a while. Also, for the snark, stick him with Ferris. Hysterical.

The downside is he gets more moody as the game progresses. But then, there's more for him to be moody about.

The only character I've decided I don't like is Sabastian. He's just.. flat. Plus he ****ing threatened to attack my city. **** that guy. D:

The rest of them all have their charms ;p

So, I'm noticing in my second playthrough that Fenris and Isabella aren't so bad. I still don't think they are deep in any way, shape or form, but drinking wine out of the bottle with Fenris like a couple of bros was really entertaining. Once he stops acting like a sensitive little joy-killer, he's a pretty cool guy. And when Isabella puts away her ****-armor for a second and acts like a genuine human being, she's not so bad either.

As so many have already expressed, Anders went from my favorite DA:O companion to one that gets on my nerves a bit. However! I have a great time pissing him off and maxing out his Rival score. The banter with Fenris is kinda funny too.

Anders! OMG I I hated him so much. I was so happy at the end when I was able to stab him in the back! Thank god you don't need a healer playing on hard.

I didn't like Fenris or Sebastian. Fenris just didn't interest me whatsoever and kept talking about how mages are bad blah blah. And Sebastian was a tad too religious for me.

Hm, I didn't hate any of them, really. Anders' doom and gloom was... while somewhat understandable, a little annoying. I overall liked him better than in Awakenings (sorry, he just didn't do it for me as the silly mage with a cat of all things), but he started reminding me of Jowan during the third act what with stupid, desperate acts, and boy, did I hate that mage.

But as I said, I'm rather happy with all of them.

Sebastian, hands down. It's like they took everything endearing about Leliana and left all the annoying bits. I'm so glad I got the SE. I'd have been pissed if I'd paid for him.

This. He was just *too* good. Though I will admit him trying to convert Merrill was a funny conversation

I'll have to see if I can trigger that one. I stopped using him after he told Fenris that the Maker gave him the opportunity to escape slavery. I was all "Really? When is the Maker going to get around to freeing all the other slaves in the world? Or was Fenris just special?"
